Easiest Ten Pounds Ever

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Well that was the easiest ten pounds ever! Technically, I'm down eleven pounds since the first of the month, but ten is a nice, round number.

What I Did:
- Ate THREE pieces of Black Forest Cake from Costco
- Drank six vodka-tonics in one sitting
- Ate half of a 700-calorie muffin from Costco
- Drank a bottle of Dr. Pepper
- Ate sizzling fajitas with cheese in white flour tortillas

Why I Was Able to Do Those Things and Still Lose:
- Took group fitness classes thrice weekly
- Did independent cardio once weekly
- Went for walk each week of at least 5 miles (8 km)
- Ate a healthy, filling breakfast every day
- Ate a home-cooked lunch 27 out of 28 days
- Ate a home-cooked dinner 27 out of 28 days
- Kept meticulous records of every morsel of food that I ate
- Ate within my calorie range 25 out of 28 days (I was over my first two days on the program, and once when I went out for dinner)

I will be spending four days out of town next week, so I'll be eating in restaurants, but I'll do my best! My hotel has a fitness center, so I'll be keeping up my workouts! I've already previewed the menus at several places we'll be eating so I know what looks like safe choices. And I will pack some healthy snacks so I don't reach for the marzipan-filled cookies when my energy drops! And I'll bring my water bottle. And... and... and...!

You must have great metabolism! I am a bit of a healthy eating fanatic and do not count calories, but just make sure that nothing goes in my mouth that is not as healthy as it can be. The way foods are grown today makes it more and more difficult to find food that is as healthy as it should be. Keeping a record as detailed as you would take me too long (I getting only 4 hours of sleep a night now as it is) and would be too stressful for me. I commend you for being able to keep up with it all. emoticon

Impulse Buy!

Saturday, March 27, 2010

I just ordered something from the Home Shopping Channel for the first time ever! I feel like such a loser!

I'm buying the Tony Little Shaper Bar, which is like a body bar with detachable resistance bands. It comes with four DVDs, including a pilates-inspired one, an ab one, and a total-body workout.

I'd been thinking about buying resistance bands but I wasn't sure how to use them; I like the idea of the bar AND bands, plus lots of useful information.

We'll see...

emoticon Seriously, I feel like an uber-dweeb!

The only way you are a loser is in the releasing excess pounds department! (get it? you're losing....) I feel confident you can rely on your intuition to lead you to the right actions for your personal health. And it sounds like fun!

It "sounds" like a good set to work out with. I have resistance bands. They are almost like lifting weights which is good for you and is suppose to burn more calories than any other exercise. You go girl! emoticon

I have a Tony Little Gazelle :) I should use it more often. But it sounds like a good purchase :)

Two Thumbs Down - Easter Eggs

Friday, March 26, 2010

I ate two MINI Easter Eggs (one Caramilk, one Creme) at work today. I immediately felt extremely ill and spent about an hour in the washroom afterwards. Yuck! However, they went through my system pretty quick and I was able to go to the gym afterwards. I did a pre-weigh before my weekend weigh-in, and found that I was at the ten pounds down mark! It may have been slightly influenced by prior bathroom trips, but still!

The moral of the story is, Mini Eggs are bad. Counting calories and exercising are good!

I got a whole bunch of cookbooks from the public library today. There's an Australian one about vegetarian cooking, an Iron Chef (Japan) cookbook about Chinese cooking (full of really gross recipes- none are vegetarian!), Moosewood's Simple Suppers, and a huge Marie Claire seasonal cookbook (which I'm sure will have pretty pictures if nothing else). I'm hoping to get inspired!

Mmmm... Home-Cooked Meals

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

This week I've been eating pitas with homemade hummous, homemade Greek salad, and mock chicken. It's SO good! I love making hearty salads that can hold up for a few days at a time.

On the flipside, I cleared out my freezer over the weekend and packed all the bits and pieces of leftovers for work lunches this week. This means I'm eating some soups that I'd definitely of had enough of already... one more day of White Bean and Vegetable Cassoulet, or another bowl of Winter Vegetable Soup, and I might go postal in the lunchroom! The good thing is that I'm clearing out lots of reusable containers so I can store different foods for the future (I guess the other good thing is that it makes nutrition tracking easier because everything was already entered weeks ago).
