Someone Noticed!

Somebody noticed that I'd lost weight. I was wearing my least-flattering (but most comfortable) dress pants, and I just passed it off as the pants being too baggy... I want to keep things on the downlow in the real world. There have been times in the past two or three years where I've been so heavy that this particular pair of pants is tight- now, no matter how far I push out my stomach, they're still too big! Now, if only I could wear pajamas to work!

    That's great! Keep on doing what you're doing `coz it seems to work just fine.

My diet hasn't been working for some reason. I've been on for a month and have only really lost 2-3 lbs. Is that normal?

... but the knees of an 80-year-old!

I've always, always had naturally hyperextended knees, although I learned in Grade 6 that they're considered unattractive so I do a darn good job of not letting them lock backwards. However, it seems like they're always sore. I can't do ANY lunges- backwards, forwards, walking, on a Bosu... it KILLS no matter what. Running causes a lot of pain, even extended walking hurts. I bought some ice packs today so I can ice my knees after working out, but I'm looking for a physiotherapist. There are a LOT in my city and I'm waiting to get some recommendations for a good one, as I won't trust my knees to just anyone!

    Good luck! I tore my ACL when I was 17 and had reconstructive surgery on it. I did the rehab and luckily recovered pretty quick. (Oh.. to have the body of a 17 year old again....) Ten years later, it still stiffens up on occasion, or acts very irritated when I try to do lunges with weights. I really really hope you get to some kind of specialist soon. That has to be so annoying/painful. Knee pain suuucks. Let us know how it turns out!

Out to Dinner

This was my first restaurant meal of the program! I tried to plan ahead throughout the day but still ended up eating more than my fair share of calories. I tracked them honeslty though; even adding in extra oil under the assumption that it was used when preparing my food. I definitely should have skipped the Dr. Pepper; if I'd done so I would have just barely exceeded my calorie limit. Lesson learned: Just SAY NO to soda!

I'm Not Bluffin' 'Bout My Muffins...

Seriously, that 700-calorie muffin from Costco pissed me off (even though I only ate half... luckily). I have already emailed Costco to say that I think their muffins need to be reformulated.

I also took it upon myself to buy the things I would need to bake my own muffins. I've never been a big fan of baking, but if the alternative is 700-calorie muffins then I'll suck it up! I made vegan muffins from 100% whole wheat flour, grated carrots, apples, and pear, pulverized almonds and cranberries, a scoop of oatmeal, pumpkin puree in place of eggs and oil, and just a half cup of sugar (which ultimately gets divided amongst fourteen full-sized muffins).

These muffins are DELICIOUS, with 154 calories each, 3 grams of fat and 4 grams of protein. Adios Costco!

    Go ahead girl!!!!!

Today is my day for cooking up some yummy stuff for the rest of the week. I want to make a nice, cheap and easy desert that I can make and slice into serving sizes and freeze so I can have that when I have one of those moments!

So far pre-cooking has been great with the shrimp I cooked up though my daughter stole one of the 4oz containers I made. Good thing I had 4 dishes!

Costco Banana-Nut Muffins

I ate half a muffin with breakfast this morning (from the staff room)- 350 calories! WTF? Seriously! A whole muffin should not be 700 calories! That's obscene!

I am actually going to write an email to Costco saying that I think that is disgusting.
