I just finished 45 minutes on the elliptical and 10 on the recumbant bike. I love Sundays the best because I have more time and less on my list of things to get done than Saturday. I am really getting into this exercise thing and hope to convince my husband to go for a walk later to enjoy this beautiful fall day!
I hope all of you out there have a wonderful day and a great week.

Yesterday was officially 3 months since I started with Spark People. I have learned so much about burning calories, counting calories, what kind of foods have the most calories and more! I never thought a program like this would be effective but I figured I would give it a try. I can really see a difference in the way my clothes fit, I have lost 12 lbs but more than that, I have lost inches and my belly is slowly losing some of that excess adipose tissue!
The support on this site is great and I can't believe how much I look forward to logging on each day and reading the blogs that everyone posts and feeling so together with everyone as we go thru the ups and downs of losing weight.
I consistently log my food and exercise each day and that is truly key when trying to lose weight. Because I work in a stressful dept of a hospital, I like to bring chocolate to my staff and I usually don't eat myself, but every once in a while I do have to have a piece too. The one day I had a reeces peanut butter cup, I looked at the calories after I ate it and then I was annoyed since that was 1/2 the calories I eat for lunch in that one little cup. Really makes you think twice before putting that wonderful tasting thing in your mouth!
When I found this site, I was really looking for "diet pills" that had been shown to be effective but in the long run, the only effective way to lose weight and to keep it off is thru life style change and exercise. I am lucky enough to have my own equipment here and my husband kept wanting to put it away, but I kept saying no, I know I will go back and use it and some point and that point came when I almost hit the 190 mark and decided enough is enough, get your butt back on it and lose that extra weight!
Way to go everyone! Thanks for the great stories that everyone posts and together we can do this!!

What a great day. Fall is upon us and the wind is blowing leaves around and the beauty of the turning leaves is wonderful. In other words, life is great. I feel so fortunate to have found this site and the best part is when I weighed in this morning I finally hit my first 10 lb weight loss. It has not been easy but I feel great now that I am exercising more consistently and at my health check at work yesterday I was able to do 15 girl pushups(from the knees) when a couple of months ago, I could do about 3. I tell everyone I talk to about this site and how great it is and even if you don't want to lose weight, just the nutritional and exercise information on this site is awesome. I think everyone can gain knowledge from visiting this website. I want to thank everyone for their stories and their encouragement. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

My husband and I went to Door County for our 27th wedding anniversary and while I was a bit anxious about how I was going to stay on track for eating right, I told myself to relax and just enjoy the time away. I had packed a picnic lunch, but there were no rest stops along the way so we ended up stopping at Arby's so that was the first test. I went with the chicken salad sandwich, ate only part of one piece of the bread, took only a few the fries and gave the rest to my husband and had a diet soda. I didn't enter calories while I was gone, no access to a computer, and tried to make sure I did enough walking each day. The only day I know I went way over was the 24th of Aug, but since we went out for a special meal that night, I was going to enjoy every minute and taste of it. So, what I learned from being away is that you don't have to log every single thing you eat, you just need to be aware, stop eating when you are no longer hungry, eat just a little of the things that you love but are not good for you, you can make healthy choices and choose smaller servings even when eating out and learn to enjoy each bite (fewer than before) so you don't become obsessed with the amount of calories you are consuming. I had lot's of side salads with vinegarette and a cup of soup or piece of grilled chicken or fish and it filled me up. Stay strong everyone! WE CAN DO THIS!

I am 2 month's into my weightloss journey and things are getting easier with each passing day. I feel better, my clothes fit better, I think I look better and I am happy to see I am inching ever closer to the 10 lb mark. I was not sure that I could stick with this when I first signed up but I was determined that I needed to try hard to take back the control over my weight and stop it from inching upward.
I have found many new and delicious recipe's thru sparkpeople and looking at some of my old cookbooks that I have bought over the years with weightloss in mind. Until you start recording everything you eat and see the actual calories in all that goes into your mouth, it is easy to see why obesity is on the rise. Everytime I see the commercials for the fastfood restaurant, I think, wow, how many calories is in that large fry and large big mac. Where once I would not have thought twice about eating that, I think oh my, I would be way over my calorie allowance for the day, not to mention my arteries screaming for mercy!
I love sparkpeople and the great people that are encouraging one another and the spark coaches that help teach and make it easier to be able to lose weight once YOU set your mind to it. It does take determination and a strong mindset to get on the right track. Every day is a victory if you are watcing what you eat and exercising, and if you mess up one day, hop back on the cardio the next day and keep on going. Life is a journey and every minute should be appreciated. Be thankful for every day you have, you never know what tomorrow will bring!
