Weight and Food

Wednesday, June 05, 2013

Yesterday I got on the scale and saw a dreaded number- too much for me. I've got to get back with it. Mainly I need to control my eating and stop all the snacking. I just find it hard to be so disciplined with my eating since I've always been able to eat whatever I wanted. That is all in the past though now that I'm over 50. Your metabolism changes and if you're honest with yourself you acknowledge it. I would like to ignore it-(I'm not that over weight) But my clothes are tight and it's just extra baggage I don't need. Tracking food is a discipline in itself. Exercise comes easier for me since it makes me feel good. It seems like with food though you have DENY yourself all the time. There's so many high calorie choices everywhere. UUUUGGGHHHH! But I know I can do it. It is possible and I will conquer this.

You can do it. I am finding the same thing and I am in my 60s. I think my metabolism has slowed and it simply is not as easy to lose weight as it was.
Good for you staying strong and being ready to work on those pounds. Tracking helps with those snacks.

I've learned that there are many foods that taste as good as the high calorie snacks. It takes time to adjust your body to craving healthy over high calorie. I do believe in moderation and I'll eat a cupcake every now and then, but most of the time fresh fruit with a little whip cream does just fine.

I find that my body sometimes reacts negatively to "junk food" now that I've spoiled it with healthier eating.

Good luck! emoticon

You can do it!!! I am a big time snacker. On days when I track what I eat it adds up so fast. Tracking really helps keep the mindless eating under control. Good Luck! :)

running vs biking

Friday, May 10, 2013

Tommorrow is the Iron Mom in Paducah. I ran the 13 miles the 1st year and last year I did half of it in a relay with my daughter. This will be the third year and I'm not doing it- boo hoo. It just doesn't fit into my schedule and I'm not in shape enough either. I need to find a good 5k and spend a little time getting ready for it. I've been biking which I really love but I'm less in shape for running/walking now. I use my bike to run errands and just for exercise. Lately I've had a dog threatening me on my bike on a road I frequently ride on. I see so many dog bites at work that it makes me wary. Yesterday I shot him in the face with a watergun full of vinegar. I think I may switch to ammonia because the vinegar didn't seem to faze him too much. And it takes some coordination to ride your bike and also shoot at a dog and keep your legs out of his range. That was a workout. I guess I 'm lucky I haven't run into this before. I've rode and walked for years without any problems.

Be careful! Sorry you have to deal with a scary dog after you, hope the ammonia works.

I hate to come upon a loose dog. Stupid owners! I never thought about vinegar or ammonia. Good idea.

As for "Iron Mom" (cool name), time to start training for next year. Go for it!

Walking the Dogs

Friday, February 08, 2013

In the fall we had a new puppy appear in our yard. SHe's a yellow lab and fits in great with our other dogs. We've been calling her destructo dog due to her constant chewing. We have looked around and wonder why we have three dogs. I have been wondering and working on walking 3 dogs. We have 30 acres but I don't want them running away from me
A new dog adds a whole new aspect to the dog mix. Recently with much work I've been able to walk the dogs around the field with out them running away. We all get our exercise and my shoulder isn"t pulled out of socket by them on the leash. They really enjoy getting to run and I don't have to worry about cars. And we get to inspect our land too. It's a nice walk for all of us.

We also have a puppy and lots of acreage but mostly woods so keep her on a leash. I know all about the sore shoulder. This bird dog wants to chase rabbits! Enjoy the doggies. It's so nice to have that unconditional love. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I felt very lucky this Christmas to have my daughter from Amsterdam home for Christmas. And Maddy my younger daughter was also home from college. Also my work schedule was pretty sweet just by happenstance. The one bummer was being sick. It lasted about a week and didn't keep me in the bed, but after shopping or cooking I was wiped out. I am finally gradually feeling better with less congestion and coughing. Thank goodness for medications.
The day after Christmas we saw a few inches of snow. That makes for a cozy house.
We've been enjoying lots of good food including candy and sweets and since being sick I haven't exercised. I'm beginning to feel like a slug. I hope to get back on the right path here soon.

Happy Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

I have so much to be thankful for. I have a good job that I love and a husband who can fix anything- (he just took apart the microwave door when the latch broke and has identified the defective part) My two daughters are both beautiful and independent. We have 3 beautiful dogs and 6 cats and egg laying hens. I love our land and our connection to you. Ky is such beautiful place. My mom is 96 and doing well. I have all my siblings and beautiful neices and nephews. And friends that we enjoy doing things with. Life really is good and I am so thankful each and every day.
