Injury setback

Monday, January 07, 2008

I admit I wasn't as careful as I should have been during the holidays...I started out well, but then we moved to a new house and my routine got out of control, and I just never quite got it back together. Then a long vacation added to it, and I'm just now getting it back together. Unfortunately, I sprained my ankle about a week ago, and I can't really do cardio until it heals. It's really difficult for me to lose weight without cardio, so I'm feeling a little frustrated and down as a result. I'm just going to try to focus on drinking lots of water and eating well and letting my ankle heal, but it's hard to be patient!

you'll get back on track. we all have setbacks. if there is anything else you can do that doesn't impact your legs? For instance, swimming (maybe you need your ankle for this, i don't know?) or that arm cycling machine or the rowing machine (as long as you only press off from the one leg)? If those aren't good options, no biggie, take it easy and you'll get back on track when you are ready. Enjoy the time off and you'll be refreshed and ready to get back into the swing of things when it's time.

Recovering from travel

Monday, September 10, 2007

It's hard to keep up the routine when traveling. I was on a family vacation in MN for a week, and definitely ate too much. I was proud though, to go the MN State Fair and not end up feeling sick to my stomach. We got a lot of "fair food" and split it between four or five people, so at least I got a taste of all my faves (can't beat the corn dog...). Then I was home for just one day before I had to go to Chicago for a conference, where almost all of our meals were catered...I did my best with that, but I gave in to dessert once or twice. I am proud of the fact that two of my three nights in Chicago I went to the hotel gym and worked out. I have managed to maintain my weight despite all of the chaos, and now I'm looking forward to getting back to the routine and ditching a few more pounds!

That darn scale...

Monday, July 30, 2007

I'm a little frustrated. A perfect week in terms of nutrition and fitness, but only half a pound down. I know better than to get too hung up on the scale number, but it still bugs. There, I feel better now!

You are doing super!! I remember all that awesome encouragement you were giving me back when I was losing .5 every two weeks!! (that rate varies!) As you said, it is still a loss. Further, by losing it slowly you are more likely to keep it off.

You are doing everything right. For me, to get through it and stay motivated, I incorporate a day here or there where I get to eat more than usual but w/in moderation. That way I never feel deprived and I relax more when it's time to go to the scale. I think it even helps the scale by boosting my metabolism. I call them maintenance days. :)

Be in the now, enjoy how you feel right now, love who you are right in this moment as you are now... good health will follow! Besides, it could also have been a little too much sodium the night before and it will be off tomorrow. No worries!
