April 9th 2011 M.S. Walk

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

It has come to my attention Spark People does not allow posts such as the one I made regarding the M.S. Walk. I am not one to offend or violate policy.

I can appreciate this policy and apologize for having violated it. Thanks to those of you who corrected me as well.

Having said that, I think it is okay for me to say....

I am just totally thrilled to be participating in the M.S. Walk on April 9th out of Irvine, California. I am on Team Grizzly as are my two sisters, nieces, daughter and other family members (not my parents they are too old!).

The most fabulous part of this walk is my sisters will be there with me. My brother passed on the walk but he will participate in other ways. Just between us, I think he should have walked with us! I can write that here on Spark because he is not on the site. My sister is on spark people, but she never checks it so I am safe with you guys. I adore my family and love spending time with them. It would have been so cool for all four of us kids to do it.

I will let you guys know how it goes. I am careful about posting pictures of others so I will ask their permission first.

I am walking a half marathon for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in May, and I have found it to be such a pleasure getting physically prepared for it. And it has brought a wealth of delights from friends and family who have donated. I am walking this by myself, but have a SP friend in Boise who will join me (YES!) and my dog groomer and another friend will join me as well. I think that will make the walk go a lot faster. So glad you can walk with your family!

That is fantastic you will be walking with family! The first and last time my family ever did anything together was the Ricki Walkathon -we three children got our photo in the paper chowing down on the KFC at the end of the walk -early signs of my vegetarianism -I wanted the chips while brother and sister devoured the chicken lol.
Enjoy your walk!!

The National MS Society is kicking off Walk MS 2011

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

THIS IS THE STANDARD MESSAGE PROVIDED REGARDING DONATIONS TO A WALK FOR M.S. I am thinking of writing my own, just posting this because I was asked to.

Dear Friends and Family,

The National MS Society is kicking off Walk MS 2011. I am participating this year and I am hoping that you'll join me by making a contribution to support my effort to move us closer to a cure.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society's mission is to create a world free of MS. They fund research and help people who live with MS lead more fulfilling lives. I believe in the work they do, and I invite you to see for yourself all the good they've done for the MS community. More than 450,000 Americans live with MS, and your support will make a difference in their lives.

Please help by making a donation - large or small - to help us move closer to a world free of MS. Or, why not join me on the day of the event? Become a participant and side by side, as teammates, we can work together to raise the funds to make a difference.

Whatever you can give will help! I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

Sincerely,
victoria salti

  Hi Victoria,
This is a great cause, I participate in the MS Walk in the Canadian city where I live every year. Apparently the province I live in has the highest rate of MS in Canada...not sure why that is though.

    Hi Victoria,
Thanks so very for supporting this cause. My province of Saskatchewan, is, unfortunately a hotbed of MS. My support stays local as I know someone with MS -a real tragic story. This poor girl graduated high school normal at age 18. By age 20, she was blind and in a wheelchair with difficulty swallowing. Her dear mother, my friend, died of brain cancer only five years later :((
Good luck with your walk and fundraising. Do be aware Sparks has a policy against this :( Hope you don't have trouble..
Thanks again,
Linda

When You are the Designated Driver!

Monday, March 21, 2011

I had a blast this weekend wine tasting with the girls. The pleasure was ALL mine to be the "Designated Driver".

We are lucky to have fine wine tasting all over California, we went to Temecula.

We had a delicious brunch. Wilson Creek Winery and Vineyard was first rate.

We shared Chicken and Waffles off the brunch menu. If you have never had this dish, it is a must at least once. Our meal was perfect and we were seated in the enchanting Barrel Room.

The restaurant served their signature Almond Champagne with our brunch. As the D.D., I was "forced" to load up on these yummy little cookies for the drive home. Oh, torture! My GF bought me a box to enjoy at home, thoughtful.

I was diligently sober for the ride home.

When you are the Designated Driver you do have the best seat in the house.

You get to delight in watching your friends have fun. The one of a kind look on their faces as they taste the various wines is matchless! The joy of watching their pleasure is grand. Make no mistake, if you ever have the opportunity to be a D.D. for your friends, the pleasure will be all yours.

I just love this papyrus card I gave to my GF saying:

"SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO TAKE THE DAY OFF!"

Giving to Japan the Smart Way!

Friday, March 18, 2011

Hello SparkPeople, we have all been concerned as we watch Japan endure this ordeal with dignity and strength. I know we all want to do what we can to help. I am thinking we should educate ourselves and give the smart way.

I found this organization that will match your donation to Japan.

Purchase: $5 for $10 Donation to Red Cross Relief Efforts - LivingSocial
livingsocial.com

https://livingsocial.com/deals/32115
-5-for-10-donation-to-red-cross-relief
-efforts/purchases/new?preferred_city=60

Also Groupon made a similar offer:

Donate $50 to Red Cross relief efforts for Japan, we will match ... Japan Earthquake and Tsunami relief efforts. Donate $50 to Red Cross relief efforts, we will match every $50 donation.

Lady Gaga is selling a Japan Earthquake Relief Wristband for $5.00 all proceeds to go to Japan. This is yet another smart way of giving. This is the gift that keeps giving because as you wear the wristband, the message lives as a reminder.

I googled donate to Japan and came up with multiple organizations that are collecting. Please check out any organization you donate to. In today's financial climate, the cons are on the prowl as well.

Have a good weekend,

Give your GREEN to the Organizations helping Japan

Thursday, March 17, 2011

I put green workout pants on just to get that whole color thing out of the way.

I have been pinching the un-green people and I just love that part of this day. Cracks me up when they don't even know what day it is & they just yell "Hey, why did you do that?"

Sure would like to write something exciting like I am going down to the pub for some green beer. The only fun I am having on this holiday is changing my Spark Page!

My morning news weather man, Mark Kriski at KTLA made a comment this morning I liked so much I wanted to share it with all of you. He said everyone should take their green and donate it to the various organizations that are helping Japan. BTW, He is a Canadian Native

Little update, I heard on the news Sandra Bullock & Demi Lovato donated 1 million dollars EACH to Japan. Nice to know someone as young as Demi Lovato has a big heart. I love Sandra Bullock even more now that she has raised the bar. Let's hope the other celebrities follow their example!

Our small contributions are important, their large contributionsget the job done. I applaud these women for their generosity!

Tragedies like this one, Haiti, floods in Indonesia, hurricane damage, mudslides and all the rest should make us wonder how we'd feel if we were involved in one and the Red Cross and others came to our aid. We may not be able to afford much but multiplied by millions of people, donations can add up quickly. BTW, love the green. Today is also my "baby" brother's birthday. -- Lou
