The Cosmopolitan Hotel Part 4 THE CHANDELIER

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Spark Cheers, this is my 4th and final blog on my Las Vegas trip. This blog covers The Cosmopolitan Hotel itself. I loved the pillars in the lobby, They change!

This entire area is serene with relaxing music while these images change right in front of your eyes. Very Cool!

Changed Again!

The resort is full of Art that is apparently rotated constantly.

THE CHANDELIER IS A MUST SEE

I filmed the video at 7:00 A.M. There were people all over the hotel dressed in nightclub attire, I don't think they had gone home yet! Talk about sleeping issues! We have got it made compared to them.

An inhabitable, multi-story visual spectacle housing three unique bar experiences; The Chandelier provides a bit of playground, art exhibit and cocktail haven all at once.

We are not drinkers, but apparently the drinks are great!

Here are more pictures and thanks for checking out my blog! I will say I love other places in Las Vegas too. This is just one of the new places that I wanted to share.

Had to take a picture of this we loved it!

These shoes were right by our room elevator. Each time we walked by, people were climbing into these shoes for their pictures. Mostly the females!

I asked D.H. to climb in with me for a picture and he said "NO WAY", must be a guy thing.

They have these Giant Interactive IPADS all over the hotel. They are not only informative, they give directions. Very Cool, especially for geographically challenged individuals like myself.

The Cosmopolitan Hotel Part 3 THE BUFFET A Woo Hoo Moment

Tuesday, March 08, 2011

Las Vegas is a short trip from Southern California so many of us have gone repeatedly and make it a point to see each resort as they open. The newest area is “City Center”, gorgeous in the Las Vegas tradition.

THE FABULOUS COSMOPOLITAN BUFFET
I am sharing my unprecedented buffet experience at The Cosmopolitan. No one will appreciate this buffet more than our Spark Friends. We think alike with similar weaknesses. This is our Buffet folks!

First and foremost, it was all very healthy and delicious. I loved how they portioned it out for us.

Typically in a buffet, there are these huge trays filled with delicious dishes with a big serving utensil for you to take several portions. Most people tend to walk back with a plate overfull of tons of food with the intention of going back for more.

That won’t happen to you at the Cosmopolitan Buffet. You take a large plate that you fill with little plates. You are going to have to make another trip once that place is full and they fill up fast.

I normally overeat at the Buffet then spend the evening moaning for hours because I piled my plate sky high. You just can’t do that at the Cosmopolitan’s buffet. You would have to make 20 trips. The way they have set this up, stomach has enough time to signal that you are full and you will quit on your own. This buffet is genius! Does that make sense?

Next, the desert bar was fabulous. Primarily fruit, delicious and fresh.

No giant trays of bread pudding. Again, it was all portioned out with healthy eating in mind. It was perfect for a fruit challenged person like myself.

I cannot stress how wonderful my dining experience was. I walked out happy and very full, but no pain. Self control came easy and for the first time I ate at a Buffet where desert was not my focal point, it was the scrumptious food.

A DIFFERENT NIGHT, DIFFERENT BUFFET

Historically in Las Vegas, I start my meal with a few Creme Brule then end it with a few more. All said and done I will eat about 10 Creme Brule, a few servings of bread pudding, some ice cream with topping, a slice or two of pie & some cake. REALLY! I assume that is what most people do.

I surprised myself, a definite Woo Hoo moment. I was controlled and appropriate having just ONE Creme Brule and ONE bite of the next.

I had 3 tiny servings of bread pudding and that is good for me. I did not have to go to my room to moan and groan in pain for hours like I usually do. That felt so good!

All those articles and blogs have taught me I do not have to abuse food or ignore it. I just have to enjoy eating in an appropriate manner that allows me to be happy and healthy.

If you are buffet challenged then you must go to the Cosmopolitan buffet. You won’t be able to overeat and your dining experience will be fabulous with a happy ending like mine.

Wow-what a sight! Now that is a buffet worth going to! When you have willpower and like you said, know how to not abuse food or ignore it, you can eat at buffets and enjoy the experience. I have done it many times and stayed within calorie range. But, they aren't as good as this one by any means! Would love to visit Vegas one day! Thanks for sharing. emoticon

But Spark Birdy, haven't you heard? What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas! Those pounds are still there! Maybe we could disagree like Dr. Oz and Gary? I decided before I left I would not track my food so I have not idea what I ate in terms of calories. I should back track to see what damage I did. I know I did really well at the Cosmopolitan buffet. It was that next night with the creme brule and the bread pudding that I messed up, but ahhh it was heavenly.

Now that's a great buffet!! Woohoo indeed!

We like the buffet at the Saddle West in Pahrump because they have reasonably healthy choices but wow, it doesn't compare to the Cosmopolitan from what you've told us - hmmm, guess I'll have to mosey on over there the next time I'm in Vegas [which actually isn't very often as I really don't care for that town much - even tho I/we really enjoy other areas of Nevada!!]

At any rate, the Cosmo Buffet is a LOT better than the last Vegas meal we had at the Hash House A Go Go - the word 'healthy' wouldn't go anywhere near that place without it's close companion 'un' leading the way - glad you had such a great experience with this buffet and now I want to try it, too!!

The Cosmopolitan Hotel Las Vegas-Part 2 THE GYM

Sunday, March 06, 2011

I am very excited to share my trip with all of you. Here is "The Cosmopolitan Hotel Fitness Center" in Las Vegas. You guys know I am Fruit Challenged. The Cosmopolitan fitness center keeps fresh fruit on hand for guests. These guys helped me keep my fruit goal! The staff was very attentive. The class instructors were so knowledgeable. I would not skip this place on your next visit. I feel like a new woman after having used this gym.

I was always greeted with these cheery faces who were always available to answer my questions. I took several classes including Pilates, Yoga, Boot Camp and Zumba. The instructors watched me to make sure I was doing it right and I was glad they corrected my movement.

This room has even more equipment in it, but I thought this was cool.

The equipment is state of the art and plentiful.

This machine is new to me. Its called a cross trainer. The unit not only has a T.V. it had a trainer video. I played Mah Jong, Solitaire and watched AMC and OLTL. Some of my Spark Friends know how just how much I was digging this machine. Overall this gym was one of my best gym experiences.

This would be an awesome treat!

A Different Perspective

Sunday, February 27, 2011

This weekend was a bit different for me. I was lucky to work a few hours at a craft fair Saturday and Sunday. I love to scrapbook so I was in heaven. Nonetheless, I had to get up early and wear real clothes (no grubbies for the outdoors), do the hair instead of shoving it in a cap and breakfast was a cliff bar on the go.

The worst part was I did not walk my Boo. I missed our bonding time. The best part was I got to work and that was wonderful.

Is it okay to say, I WAS DEAD TIRED? I am always going on about people making sure they exercise! Not so easy when you work. I am just saying.

I now have a new found respect for all the folks who work a full day and still manage to workout!

I also wanted to give the link to Anne, who hired me for the Scrapbook Expo. She was super kind and understanding. I did give her my SparkPeople.com Card. I hope she checks us out. We would like her.

THIS LINK IS TO A VENDOR AT THE SCRAPBOOK EXPO: www.craftfantastic.com/

Just in case you would like to attend one of these expos here is the link to their show locations and dates:

That adjustment phase can take a while and if it just a one time thing... bang! It hits you like a ton of bricks and takes a while to recover. I love my routines and flexibility I have now. Yet days get busy. My dog and I walked so much last summer and I hope to get back to it as soon as the snow melts. She put on some weight already and is not as well behaved as when we are walking regularly. I don't blame her! However it is great to have a change. I'm glad the expo was successful. If you had to do something like this regularly you would adapt. It's amazing what you can do if you have to.

I don't know how people have time to do anything else, when they have kids, jobs and a house to keep up. I never had kids, and now don't work and I still don't get as much done as I would like to. Espeicailly since SP and exercising more now. I greatly admire those folks that can juggle it all!!

I find it easier now that my kids are grown and left the nest. I can find time for myself now.

Lou, good point. I admire persons (let's face it usually mom) who can juggle all, house, dinner, kids & still manage time for anything else.

Libby is right about people with disabilities holding us from getting our exercise in. Most of us could write a book about that.

Barb, I made arrangements for Boo to get walked both days. Not the same as going with me though. We started Monday with an great big walk.

I am so glad you had a emoticonweekend! It is a juggling act for sure to work, exercise, care for my family, and have some spark time. Somedays are easier then others but in the end I think I have found somewhat of a balance. Now, go spend some time with Boo and enjoy a walk emoticon emoticon

I know what you mean by "respecting" people who work full time. I am retired so I have all day to work out whenever the feeling hits me. Higher up on the "respect" measurements go to full time students with a part-time or full-time job. I have been there in my past and it is difficult to get the motivation when most of your time is filled with other activities.

Oh thank you, I work full time 4 - 10 hour days a week. I still manage to get up at 3 in the morning to get my first 1 hour workout in though.I also do an hour of sparking before I get into the shower. Would you call spark an addiction? lol

I'm glad you had a good weekend!

I find it easier to workout on the days I work. I think it's the structure, on the weekends I always say I'll get to it later.

I work a desk job though so it's nice to get moving after a long day at the office and melt some of that stress away. emoticon

Sounds like a good weekend overall and I am another one who sometimes benefits from 'walking in someone else's shoes' for awhile - it's easy to 'judge' someone else when we have different circumstances and usually not-so-easy once we've been there, too!! At least, that's how it's worked for me so I do make an effort now to remind myself that 'there but for the grace of God go i' whenever I feel ready to criticize or judge someone else!!

emoticon

I also work a full-time job and even though the hours are totally flexible and can be done 'almost anywhere,' it still takes time - when I was caring for my dad 24/7 and working, it was completely insane and there was zero energy left-over for myself. Now I just try to do what I can and enjoy life.

emoticon emoticon

However, I have to say that because my job is done wherever I am, there is zero wardrobe or grooming requirements so I've gotten out of the habit of wearing makeup - heck, I could quit bathing and do it in my bathrobe if I wanted to [but yuck!] - point being, when I do have an occasion to wear 'real clothes' and need to 'gussy up,' as my grandmother used to say, it makes me wonder how on earth I managed to do that every single day!!

emoticon

Anyway, I have respect for anyone who manages to workout period - it ain't easy to make any major change and when there's a full schedule already, especially if there are also family and home obligations involving others, it makes it even more challenging to fit everything into those 24 hrs!

emoticon

Have fun making up for 'lost time' with Boo!!

I'm glad that you had a good time. I bet you take Boo on an extra long walk to make up! Yes, I do find it hard to hold down a full-time job, be a wife and still find time to work out. I tell myself that I have to make ME one of my priorities. emoticon

Poor Boo! I bet she was wondering what was going on with that one??? LOL!

As much as I want to go back to work, I worry about fitting everything in one day too. It will be something for me to get used to and work around I guess.

I have gone to work dead tired though. Especially when I used to work 3rd shift, but wasn't able to sleep at all during the day because of my son. So I know how you feel with that one!

I hope you were able to sleep and are all caught up! emoticon

Every one is different. When I worked full time, I would get up at 5am to go to the gym, go to work come home cook dinner, walk the dogs and then collapse on the couch!

Now I don't work at a paid job , I try to get to the gym everyday, but depending on how I slept the night before and allergies etc it all impacts on the rest of the day!

Add to after work exercise, taking kids to or picking them up from ball practice, music and other classes, cooking dinner, cleaning house, and on and on and their perseverance is more astounding. -- Lou

My husband is always telling me that it is all about perspective! Since I am a therapist I do my best to not make any judgements without first trying to see it from another's perspective! We never really know what someone else feels until we try to walk a mile in their shoes! I would like to say that I admire all those who work, work, work and then work out too! I'm in awe. I work alot, but not all at once so can juggle my schedule and still feel completely drained at times!

You say only a few hours, not a eight hour shift? You could have walked Boo after.. In my mind a craft fair would be more fun then work, but that is just me..
When I worked at two jobs for a living, I still found the time to go to my karate class every night I wasn't working. 7 days a week was tough, but doable. Though unfortunately, my Dr. thought all the stress I was putting on my joints (my day job was a heavy lifting factory job)caused my RA to come back with a vegeance, putting me on permanent disability. Now I do two hours of exercising daily (when not recovering from a surgery) and the fact my current job is mostly sedentary computer work, I can handle it. Morning exercise gives you no excuses. Get it done before the day wears you out..
Have a good evening, and get a good sleep!
