Horrible day, but a great day for personal growth!

Monday, March 15, 2010

I had a horrible day today with my family usually I would have stuffed my face. I even almost did do that. I got a small bowl of ice cream out ate 4 bites then was like hay I am going Vegan this isn't vegan so I got rid of it. Turned to my pantry hand on door knob and then said no I am getting out of here and away from them for a little while. I drove to local rails to trails to take a long walk on trails walked an hour first half hour crying out my problem lack of help from hubby with son issues and sons lack of respect towards me blah blah blah. Then on the way back I thought of different ways things could have went down. Then realized hello I can't change them but I can change me and how I let what they do effects me. I use to always treat others as I want them to treat me. But my family has this way of making me feel used and kind of like a door mat so to speak. But they can only do that if I let them.
I am putting myself first and foremost when they ask something of me my question back will be would you do it for me then yes if not then you can do it for yourself and shouldn't expect me to do it for you. I am also going to in a round about way make DH step up to the parent plate, b/c I too am going to ignore things (to an extent).
Now I just wish this darn headache would go away I have had it all day!

Day 11 Vegan

Thursday, March 11, 2010

I am doing great on the Vegan lifestyle! I have lost 8 lbs since going Vegan! I am so excited, and I love the way I am feeling.
Today is my 1 day monthly fast. This is the only day this month I think I can fit it in, but I think this might be the last 1 I do. I feel great with the Vegan eating and not sure if the fast will help much anymore since I have that feel good feeling all the time with this eating plan. I normally fast to cleanse and find my focus, clear my mind body and soul. But I have been very alert and focus since changing my eating to vegan so I might not need the fast for the crutch anymore.
I made a pot of chili for me and one for family last night, Tonight it is beef veg for them and veggie for me. I couldn't believe my son requested veg soup when they just had chili last night but yeah easy dinner for me 2 nights in a row!
I found a lot of vegan protein bars yesterday Clif and Luna I bought like 16 different ones to try. The protein is the only this I am having trouble getting enough of well some days I don't get enough fat but that is only occasionally. My friend that went shopping with me yesterday helped me find all those bars. Good bless good friends. She cut my label reading time in half! LOL.

You don't have to worry about getting enough protein if you eat a good plant based diet. Spark's recommended amounts are way high. I usually get between 30 and 40 grams a day. There is a lot of research out about this now.

Day 5 Vegan

Friday, March 05, 2010

I am doing the 21 day Vegan challenge. I had often thought of going Vegan so I thought why not and signed up. I am loving it. The first day I felt so,so, but all has been getting better by the day.
I am actually sleeping some now, I fell more alive and energized also.
I do need to work on getting my protein up a little I am barely getting the min most days and a few I am under like today. I guess that is b/c I'm doing mostly raw foods. I only eat 1 cooked meal a day. I don't want to eat more raw nuts though or then I'll be over on my fats,so I am working on this part but it has only been 5 days I will figure it out. I did get a Vegan cookbook from the library and plan to try somethings from it next week.
These veggie dishes are all new to me I come from a family of hunters and you ate meat for every meal. My grandfather said only those weird peace loving hippies stay away from meat, guess I'm a hippie now. LOL
I am going to have to work on my fear of trying new foods this week I bought some almond breeze to try, next week I might try some type of new bean.

Great job, hippie! I bought the vanilla almond breeze this week and really liked it. I was under on protein too, so I found a vegan protein powder and threw that in the mix. I don't want to keep doing that, but I thought it would help until I get the hang of all of this (I'm on day 5 also). emoticon

What Motivates me!!!

Thursday, February 25, 2010

5 things that motivate me wow it is hard to do this chore. Writting this is going to be a job I should be getting paid for this! lol Well it was made as the weekly challenge for a reason so here goes:
1.) I miss hiking so much so with every healthy choice I make gets me 1 step closer to all day hikes again.
2.) Seeing my mother health going down the drain with her not really caring makes me not want to follow that road, so every healthy choice I make helps keep me healthy in general.
3.) Looking in my closet at the nice fitted clothes I use to wear, motivates me to get my self back into them.
4.) My back and knee problems, help keep reminding me of the healthy choices I need to make to keep me going.
5.) My families need of me to be healthy to help take care of them, makes me want to keep with the healthy choices.
Wow that was hard I hope this what they really were expecting!
Now I really do have to make these choices I have been smacked in the face with the reality of them!
