Carbs vs Calories on the South Beach?

Monday, January 11, 2010

Can I eat too much meat or should I control my portions on the southbeach diet? When cutting out the sugars/carbs and having 4 1/2 cups of veggies can I still eat as much me as I want. Is it about the carbs or the calories.

Try going back and reading Kierae's sticky post on the team boards. She answers a lot of your questions there. However, you cannot eat unlimited portions - it still is about balance and calories in versus calories burned.

The SBD is scientific

Thursday, December 31, 2009

I read the South Beach Book by Dr. Agaston but didn't think too much about the glucose. This is a motivation for me to understand the process of not putting carbs and sugar into my body and how the pancreas produces excessive insulin when our cells are full of glucose which inturn turns into fat and make us more hungry. Wow, Wow, that is so deep but yet easy to grasp. I may not have explained it to a tee, but I understand the science in it. Just wanted to share.... emoticon

My daughter's food

Tuesday, December 29, 2009

When I prepare meals, I usually make the same dish for my daughter and I but sometimes I we have seperate meals. For example, today I had cabbage and turkey burger (no bread). My daughter had 2 white castles, applesauce and a bag of chips. Well, my daugher ate all her applesauce and left 1/2 of her white castle and half of the bag of 1 oz chips. Needless to say, I ate what was left. What am I to do. I think I need to get rid of these chips and maybe not buy white castles anymore. I tend to buy her the chicken nuggets, white castles, cheese pizza for her lunches b/c its fast and convenient. Should I just not buy those items anymore? What to do? emoticon

You are so right. I stopped the sugary cereals and the sugary juices which I don't indulge but I think I am going to have to go all the way. This is a lifestyle and I need to include my baby in this b/c she can become an overweight child. She's not now but with the genes in my family it's possible. Thanks for your insight.

I think that we are all guilty of this kind of behavior when it comes to dieting. If you retrain your mindset to believe that you are doing a lifestyle change instead of a diet then you will include everyone in your family unit. I run a food program within my business and none the less have not quite balanced the meals for myself the way i do for my children. I am a picker and tend not to eat whole meals, so the caloric intake or right balance I lack needless to say my metabolism is shot. Now that I look for a full body, mind and spirit makeover I will include everyone in my household in this fulfilling journey.

I'm not attending WW meetings but I done it in the past and was very successful. I started the "Plan" on Monday. I have remained within my points for the 1st two days but yesterday was a woozy emoticon emoticon. Today, I'm back on it and want to learn about your WW woes and achievements.

I can't wait to step on my scale on Monday. I'm a little nervous but more anxious. 2.5 more days to go and to the scale I go....

Although I have had success in the past on WW, and I absolutely love it, I am not pointing this time around. If there is a way for you to buy a couple of boxes of their snacks I have always found that they are helpful. They always seem to ward off those whoa days. Good luck!

Hi Ladies!! I too am on the WW plan w/o attending meetings. I have been doing it for about 2 weeks now, and I'm down 8 lbs. I find that eating lots of the lower point items fill you up and help you stay within your points range. For example salad, or spaghetti w/whole wheat pasta, etc. Also don't forget that if you exercise you get activity points that allow you to go above your regular points...and the 35 extra weekly points really help to. Good luck to you!

Congrats on making a plan! That is the first step to success! Remember, the tortoise won the race by being slow and consistent.
