Walking the Walk- a month-long blog for Jan. 2012 (week 1)

Monday, January 02, 2012

My 20yo daughter gave to me the book, "Walking the Walk, Getting Fit with Faith" by Leslie Sansone for Christmas. It is a 30 Day Faith building, health building devotional/journal.

I am going to do the journaling here on my blog for the month of January. I thought it would be a wonderful way to start 2012.

Jan 1 - Arise and Walk!
I John 2:6
Faithful thought-- Today is today. By walking with spirit, I'll make it a great day. And tomorrow will be even better.
Action- Stop criticizing yourself. Stop evaluating your performance....just DO it.
Affirmation- The strength I need it get fit is already inside me. Starting today, I will call on the strength everyday, and I know it will guide me.
Exercise for the day---stretching and relaxing yoga after a 3.5 hour car ride home. emoticon

Jan 2 - Walking on Purpose!
I John 3:18
Faithful thought- My body is my temple. When I honor my body, I honor God.
Action- as you go through your day, ask yourself if each action and choice fits with your purpose.
Affirmation- "Every day I walk, I walk in devotion."
Exercise for the day-- Walking warm up, 10 minutes, Strength training, 10 min. stretching yoga, 10 min.
emoticon emoticon emoticon

Jan 3- Speaking Truth to power
Proverbs. 13:3
Faithful thought- I love my body and will treat it with respect (including my thoughts about it).
Action- look yourself in the eye in a mirror and say 3 positive things about yourself
Affirmation- "Walking makes me feel like a brand new person. I love to walk!"
my exercise for today- walking dvd, a15 minute mile and stretching yoga, 10 minutes.

Jan 4 - Getting a Hand from Above
Philippians 4:4-9
Faithful thought- Thank-you, Lord, for giving me the confidence and energy to accomplish my goals.
Action-first thing in the morning, focus on God and ask Him to be with you throughout your day. Don't get up until you've communed with God.
Affirmation- "I have everything I need for success because I've tapped into the Greatest Source of Energy in the universe and today I will use it to get through my day."
Exercise for day- a 1 mile walk outside.

Jan 5 - Being Thankful
Phil. 4:11-13
Faithful thought- Thank-you God for the gift of my life. I promise not to waste it!
Action- make a list of things you are thankful for....from the big things to the little.
Affirmation- "Today I appreciate the little things--the roof over my head, the smiles of friends and family, the energy in my body as I walk."
Today I did morning yoga and I hope to take a walk outdoors in the lovely afternoon.

Jan 6 - Taking a Spiritual Inventory
Proverbs 14:15
Faithful thought- God is a part of every step I take.
Action - Write down your beliefs then grade yourself on how well you've acted upon those beliefs.
Affirmation- "I am a whole person. Everything I do today will be a perfect reflection of my beliefs."
Today I will walk outside in the wonderful 64* afternoon.

Jan 7 - Self Love
Isaiah 45:9-10
Faithful thought -I feel the divine spark in my body and soul and do everything I can to further God's plan.
Action- pretend your body is your child and treat and talk to yourself like you would your child if the child over-ate, or didn't exercise. Counsel yourself like a wise, loving parent would. Love yourself like a wise, loving parent would.
Affirmation- I am a creation of God's love, excellence, and beauty.
Today I will do a relaxation yoga routine to end the week.

That is so awesome! I love to watch the birds, but we don't have that many different kinds. wow! My parents live near a wooded area so they have more of these mentioned, but it's so neat to just sit and watch them, isn't it?

This post brought back many happy memories for me. You see, my father was an avid, passionate bird watcher. He kept a life list. He's been gone just over 4 years.

The names of the birds you listed were all familiar to me and made me smile. I can't see the little critters well enough to make out one species over another much but I certainly respect those that do.

The cardinals are out here too for Christmas - I can see the red males for sure.

Thanks for sharing - it made my day! emoticon

Wow, what a wide variety of birds you have seen. It must be partly your local, but I'm sure I might be surprised at the birds that past through if I were paying better attention.

Thank you for sharing your fun hobby.

I have always thought that cardinals were so beautiful, but I have never seen one in real life.

Update on my earlier blog

Friday, December 23, 2011

It is now Friday evening.

Taking the advice of my precious SparkFriends, I did climb into my garden tub and took a long bubblebath soak (B&BW's Carried Away scent), then climbed back into my jammies and warm bed and napped 3 hours. emoticon After a late lunch and shower, I felt better. I've taken it easy the rest of the day and am now back in jammies again, sitting by a warm fire, and doing well.

I hate fibro flare-ups!! But I am thankful it happened today and not on Christmas day.

Merry Christmas everyone! See ya'll Monday!

Glad you listened to your body and took it easy. NOT always what we want to do, but listening to your body was the right choice. It is so difficult to deal with fibromyalgia.

losing motivation

Thursday, December 22, 2011

After so much success, you'd think I'd stay motivated.

However, I am losing my motivation for exercise. emoticon

I have all I need...supportive family, dvds, equipment, cute workout clothes, time (2 week school break), but I am just not wanting to exercise. I feel tired. I feel achy.

I am in such better health, much thinner and stronger than I've been in a decade. But I honestly don't want to stop here...I have more weight to lose, my blood pressure needs to be lowered more, and I know I can't lose the last 26 lbs to my goal by diet alone. I know I need to exercise.

I just feel so tired. so achy. so NOT motivated.

I too have gone into more of a maintenance mode. During this time of the year I am trying to make sure I don't gain any of the weight back. I have plans to start losing again after New Year's. I don't believe it is realistic to try to lose weight while entertaining and doing other Holiday related stuff.

Don't give up... you will have renewed vigor in January.

Our bodies have a way of telling us what we need . . if we will just listen to it. I don't think you are losing motivation, you just need to take a break for a bit. You could be coming down with something like COCOTTES said and your body needs time to rest and heal itself. I agree, stretching, yoga and light walking might be the answer . . go a little easier for a bit and you will be ready to start back strong again. Try and not be so hard on yourself! You have done an awesome job and you will reach your goal!!! Keep up the great work!!!

Don't quit but maybe cut yourself some slack. Pencil in some fun time - but also schedule a few LIGHT workouts. Sometimes when I'm tired and sore what I really need it to move and stretch and loosen up. On the other hand, sometimes a LONG, hot bath with a great book is what we need :)

Hang in there. Enjoy your break from school and remember, this is a journey, not a race.

It could be that you are coming down with something. If that is the case or if you are a teacher or working in a school (Christmas break) then you could just need a rest which happens to all who work in the school system. Either way, you may need to rest. If that is the case do stretching or yoga or light walking. Don't give up but do listen to what may be going on in your body. You might really need to rest for a short while and then you will be back at it stronger than ever.

Don't give up! emoticon
