We took our son for a college visit today. Although the food I consumed wasn't the best (the school provided pizza- I did pass on the fruit cobbler and drank unsweetened tea), I have a health victory to celebrate.............We did quite a bit of fast pace walking across campus, up and down several stairs ------and I did great!!! No huffy or puffy. I was able to keep up with those with young legs. I hardly felt the stairs!!!! AND it was cold and rainy--the worst kind of weather for those of us with fibromyalgia. The exercise felt GOOD!!!

Since I didn't reach all my SMART goals in September, I am tweeking them a bit for October. I have discovered something about myself in the process. Something I'm not pleased to learn about myself. I need goals, but not so many of them because once I see I'm not hitting several of them, I get lazy and unmotivated to hit any of them.
So here are my SMART Goals for October
(Specific. Measurable. Attainable. Realistic. Timely.)
1. Consume at least 6 glasses of water each day-and all before 9pm
2. PowerWalk at least 1 mile 3 days per week
3. Practice yoga 3 days per week
4. Strength train 2 days per week
5. Get outside and do something active at least 6 days each week
6. Remember my blessings and thank God for them each day

Today, I pledge I will not quit.
I pledge that no matter, how many ups and downs I pass through, I will continue on my journey.
I pledge to make a NEW START today, and forgive myself for my past, and to stop being so critical of myself.
I pledge to take control of myself, to stop making excuses, and stop blaming other people or situations.
I pledge to treat myself as I would my best friend, because that is who I am.
I pledge to stay in the race and to be a WINNER!

This morning (Sept. 10, 2012) I walked a 5k for the first time!
Since I started SP on May 19, 2011, it has been my goal to walk around a lake just down the road from our home. From my house, down the road, and around that lake, it is 6, 460 steps. Up and down hills, around countless curves, across 3 bridges, no sidewalks, and 2 country roads. 60 minutes. Just a tiny bit over a 5k.
When I joined SP, I had to start slow and short....just 10 minutes of walking. That's all I could do. Slowly I then began walking our 1/4mile gravel lane and back. When that got easy, I then walked the gravel lane, down the road and back for a total of 1 mile. Once 1 mile became too easy, I walked 1 1/2 miles. Slowly, I built up my endurance so I could walk 2 miles. Then 2 1/2. Each step along the way took months and months, just to make sure I didn't cause myself a fibromyalgia flare-up. At different times, I started 2 different SP challenges and had to drop them along the way since they build up much too quickly for me and my body and I had fibro flare-ups.
I tried not to let those times discourage me. I kept doing what I could do and be successful. Winters and summers meant walking indoors to a Leslie Sansone dvd since my body can't take cold, damp, heat, or humidity.
It has taken 15 1/2 months....but I DID IT!!!!
