Birthday Weekend.....Turning the Big 3 0

This past weekend my best friend spoiled me rotten. She had a whole two days planned for me to relax and enjoy the weekend before I turn the big 3-0 on Wednesday. She completely decorated our living room in a beach scene and printed out daily itineraries like we were on a cruise. It was a ton of fun! I got45 minutes in a massage chair, time in the hot tub, and a pedicure. But the best part was that she threw a surprise party for me on Saturday night. I wasn't sure she was going to be able to pull it off because I'm just too skeptical and suspicious. But she did! On the itinerary for Saturday it said that we were going to the movie at 7:15, but she said she forgot the movie tickets after the pedicure and we needed to run home and get them. So when we got home, she said that she had one present that I needed to open before we went to the movie. Then Surprise! My whole family was there except my mother who had come down with the flu the night before. It was very awesome!

I've had a lot of mixed emotions turning 30 but I'm actually looking forward to this year and have a lot of things on my bucket list I'm going to accomplish. One of them to achieve a healthy weight. I've still working on this goal even in my absence of blogging. This is a slow and steady race, but one that intend on winning! Sorry you Mom was not there. You worry about being that age. Really. Your a Babe!

You only as old as you feel girly. Your a very pretty young girl.

So your birthday is not on Valentines day neither.

My daughter never made it neither she is Feb 18th.

Yet she had the nice day in Canada. It is family Day on that day of her Birthday.

So her daughter will be back from University and son off school and hubby. So they will have

lots of things to do for family day.

Another week on the road to a healthier me....

As I reflect on this past week, I'm faced with the realization of how important scheduling exercise into my routine can be. The week started out relatively ok, but then has gone down hill a bit since then. On Monday, I got up early to go walk with my friend but the indoor track we walk at was closed due to Martin Luther King Day. So instead, we decided to try again on Tuesday and go back to bed that morning. I did go to Zumba on Monday night at my gym. Loved it!
Then Tuesday morning, Terrie canceled walking and I went to clogging that evening. Each Wednesday evening I have a church obligation, so I'm unable to attend any sort of exercise class, but the plan was to go walking/running in the morning. However, that didn't happen. Terrie wasn't able to go with me and I had thought I would get up and go by myself, but my bed won on that debate. Thursday was supposed to be water aerobics, but I had another church obligation which prevented that from happening. And that brings us to today. I didn't walk this morning, and I'm probably not going to get any exercise in later today. It is so much easier to get up in the early morning if I know someone is expecting me. I find it so challenging to get up and go by myself and usually justify it by saying I could always use the sleep. Which on some days that is true, but it's not a good enough excuse to keep me from exercising. All I have to say is that I always have tomorrow, and then it's a new week on Monday with new possibilities and opportunities to becoming a healthier me.

    I would so much rather work out in the morning too. But during the week when I am working, it is too hard for me to get up and do it before heading in to the office. So I force myself to do it after work. As long as I find something fun to do (like some of the videos here on Spark), I can usually spend enough time daily exercising. But weekends, back to the mornings! emoticon

    I know I have the same problem. Every blue moon I will perk up in the afternoon, but only every so often. It just has to be a habitual routine or it makes it easier for us to blow off. Good luck and we just need to stick to it (me too) . Nice hearing from you, Victoria

Friday Weigh-in.....3 lbs gone!

I weighed myself this morning and low and behold the scale was actually nice to me. I've officialy shed 3 lbs. Yay! Being able to see the number on the scale go down is motivation in itself. I'm happy to report that my determination and motivation are slowly coming back.

A couple years ago I was really gun-ho about being healthy and was able to lose 30 lbs. Then life got in the way and the determination and motivation seemed to get lost. Since then, it has been a struggle to find even the smallest desire to exercise. I know that a lot of things have changed in my life to make it possible to focus on me and my health. The main reason is that I am done with school and actually have the time to spend exercising. This probably sounds like an excuse, and to be honest it probably was; however, I have the time now and I'm making the most of it. One of the biggest things I've learned throughout my life and hardships is that I can't change the past, I can only learn from them and make different and better decisions going forward.

I went to water aerobics last night and had a blast! I could feel the burn and was really working hard, but for some reason when it's in the water it makes it a lot more bearable. Tomorrow I'm going to Zumba with my sister-in-law and I'm excited! It kicked my trash on Monday and now that I'm feeling recovered it's going to kick it all over again. I say, "Bring It!" emoticon emoticon emoticon

  


Incentive Program/Exercise Schedule

My co-worker and friend (Terrie) and I have come up with an incentive program in hopes of putting the "money" earned towards something we each want. Her reward will be to have her done before her daughter's wedding. And mine is money towards a nice camera.

We decided that we were going to award points for the different things we accomplish each day. 10 points equals one dollar. So in theory, by the end of a week you could have earned anywhere from $5-$10. We get paid each Friday and decided that each Monday we will put the money earned into a "bank" that another co-worker will hang onto for us. We decided to have someone else keep the money was the best idea. We then won't be as tempted to use the money and tell ourselves we will put it back eventually.

This is the list of items we can earn points for:
1 pt - Aerobic Exercise (10 Minutes)
1 pt - Strength Training Exercise (10 Minutes)
1 pt - Whole Day No Soda
1 pt - 32 oz. Water a Day
1 pt - 3 Servings of fruits & veggies in a day
1 pt - No Eating after 8 pm
1 pt - 6-7 hours of sleep each night
1 pt - 12 g Fiber a Day

As far as my exercise schedule is concerned, I'm attempting to find a balance in between training for my half-marathon in June and incorporating things I really enjoy doing. For example, I love clogging and it is a great work-out. However, at times I'm tempted to overdo it and run in the morning and then be so sore and exhausted in the evening that I'm not able to give everything I have at clogging. So for now this is my exercise schedule.

Sunday - Rest Day
Monday - Run (6:00-6:30 AM)
Zumba (8:00-9:00 PM)
Tuesday - Walk (6:00-6:30 AM)
Clogging (8:30-9:30 PM)
Wednesday - Run (6:00-6:30 AM)
Thursday - Water Aerobics (8:30-9:30 PM)
Friday - Walk (6:00-6:30 AM)
Saturday - Long Run

I'm sure as I add miles to my training I'll have to allow more time to run. But for now I feel good about this schedule. This week I've done pretty good at sticking to it. Yesterday was the only day so far that I didn't get up in the morning and go run. I was hurting so bad from my 2 hour work-out on Monday that I was pretty sure someone beat me up in the night and didn't tell me. LOL However, I am going to water aerobics tonight. I am determined to become healthy and lose this weight.

She's Back!!!

After a long oasis from SP, I've decided to come back and at least attempt to track my food intake and exercise. I've also been thinking about blogging about my fitness and training schedule for the upcoming races this year. I will more than likely post blogs here and on my personal blog. I'm planning on doing this in hopes of staying accountable to me and also having some encouragement from others who might read my blogs.

So enough of the chit-chat, let's get on with how the training is going for this week. Yesterday, I got up at 5:30 AM and met my friend (Terrie) at the indoor track and walked for 20 minutes. I then looked at the class schedule for the gym and discovered Zumba was offered at 6:00 PM on Monday evenings. So I decided to go to it. I LOVE Zumba! It kicks your butt and you have fun while doing it! My friend (Michele) was meeting me at the gym so she could run her miles (in preparation for training for her marathon in May) and while waiting for her I got on the elliptical/cross trainer and was on there for 25 minutes. After this she still wasn't there so I lifted weights for about 15 minutes. She came while I was lifting and started her miles. There was an open treadmill next to her so I walked (slowly) for 25 minutes while she ran. By the time I left the gym it was 8:00 PM. I honestly can't say I've ever spent two hours at the gym. And boy am I feeling it today. But I also love the feeling that comes from knowing you just worked out your body.
Also, I weighed myself yesterday morning and then again when I got from the gym last night and I was down 2.5 lbs. Yay! I realize that the weight was probably water weight, but a loss is a loss.
