I am beginning to realize that I am not going to be able to plan out my evening meal all the time. For the 2nd day in a row, I planned my meal and arrived home to find that my plan was not going to work. Also, for the 2nd day in a row I went over my calorie budget. 31 on Wednesday and 11 Thursday. Both evenings I made better choices than I would have in the past. Last night we had to run some errands and decided to pick up dinner up at the grocery store deli. In the past, this would have meant fried chicken and jojos. This time I headed for the salad bar and made myself a huge salad to start with. We still had the fried chicken, but I limited myself to 1 wing and then pulled a couple of bites of meat off of one of the breasts and did not eat the skin (although that is the best part) . I guess that going over by 11 calories is pretty good, considering that I used to go over by a couple of hundred on a daily basis. I am finding that it is easier than I thought it would be to make healthier choices. We are planning to go out for fish tonight and in Wisconsin this usually means deep fried. If there is a baked option on the menu, I will order that, but have planned my day with 1 fillet of fried fish on the menu. I have come to the decision that since this is our lifestyle, I will just need to find ways to adapt to my situation. Healthier choices when possible and do my best to minimize the damage when there is not a healthy choice. Either way I am going to succeed!

Went over my calorie budget by 31 calories yesterday. I guess that is not so bad considering that the meal I had planned and the meal I was actually able to eat for dinner were very different. I made better choices than I have in the past and was able to hold my own without totally blowing it. This is progress in my book. So, on to today! I signed up to do the Trick or Treat Trot 5K, this is the first time since high school (I was a cross country runner) that I have even attempted to walk/jog this far. I completed the training program and felt really strong and ready to race this morning. I was able to finish the race in just under 32 minutes!! Not quite my high school time, but not bad, not bad at all. I am proud of my accomplishment and am looking forward to improving my time in the next couple of months. I enjoyed the whole training process so much that I have already signed up for another race and training program. Last time I did the walking program this time I will follow the walk/jog program. I have also been strength training 2-3 times a week for the PMP ST challenge, that one is over now also. I just picked up the new Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 DVD and I think I will replace the St with that beginning next week. So.... my new program is cardio (5K my way walk/jog program) Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Jillian Michaels Tuesday and Thursday and whatever activity I feel like doing on the weekend. Continue to build on the 3 day streak of eating better that I have going and never, never, never give up!!

Day 3 and things are going great! Stayed easily within my calorie range yesterday and did not feel hungry at all. Day 3 looking good so far, but I just talked to my husband and it sounds like the healthy, low fat dinner I had planned may be changing. Oh well, I guess I will just have to adapt and do my best to stay within my limits. I am walking my 5K tomorrow, so took it easy this morning and spent about 40 minutes stretching. It felt sooooo good! Feeling strong and ready to race!

Day 2 begins! I went slightly over my calorie limit yesterday (that darn slice of cheese called my name too loudly at dinner last night), only by 116 calories though. That is better than I have been doing (by a couple of hundred calories), so I am counting it as a good thing. Today my goal is to eat within my calorie range. I have already planned my meals for the day, I found a great recipe for Chicken Enchilada Casserole on SparkPeople and am planning to make it for dinner tonight. I got up and walked for 30 minutes this morning to fulfill the requirements of my 5K My Way Walking Plan...Race day is Thursday! I feel ready. My new motto on this journey comes from a blog I read last week...Do not try to do things, just go out and DO them!! This is what I am concentrating on this week, I am not going to try to eat within my range, I am going to DO it... I am not going to try to walk/jog a 5K in under 35 min, I am going to DO it. Me and my new can-DO attitude are going to get healthier beginning right now!
