Resisting the Scale

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

So last week I was feeling a little discouraged because I had gotten into the habit of stepping on the scale EVERY morning. And, obviously, the scale did not show a new lower number each day. This week I am going to resist that. I will not weigh myself until my weekly weigh-in day on Monday. This way, if I have one bad day during the week, I will not feel like a failure because I will not be immediately stepping on the scale afterwards. I will track my calories, exercise and do everything that I know will result in weight loss so by the time that Monday rolls around, I know I will be satisfied with what I see on that scale.

I once read an article about people weighing all day - every time they walked by the scale or ate or exercised or did their business in the bathroom. I was just shocked that people would be so connected to the scale. Once a week is a good place to go. emoticon

I had to break myself of weighing everyday too. I became obessed with it and when the numbers didn't go down I got upset and discouraged. I weigh once a week now and that is soooooo much better!!

2nd week down, better than expected

Monday, November 26, 2012

Last week was crazy! With a slow start to the week with losing weight and two Thanksgiving dinners, I would really have been happy the have just broke even with my weight- not to have lost but also not to have gained. Instead, when I weighed in today, I saw that I had lost a pound and a half! emoticon

I think I have to give credit to the fact that yesterday, I got right back on track with eating right. I went to a baptism yesterday, and I told my boyfriend that I did not want any cake and that he needed to hold me to that. He did so, and I feel bad because I got a little bit grumpy with him because the cake looked really yummy and I really wanted some (I'll thank him today). But I had to keep in mind that I also really wanted to see a difference on the scale when I weighed in this morning, and instead I had fruit for dessert. It payed off! I also made sure that even though I was feeling a little discouraged last week, I still exercised everyday.

So now I am ready to get back on track, full force. I really want to lose a total of 15 pounds by the time Christmas comes around and I'm half way there right now!

Thanksgiving #2- Semi successful

Saturday, November 24, 2012

Yesterday was my second Thanksgiving dinner, this time at my parents' house. I still resisted taking seconds and only had one slice of pie, but I feel like I ate more yesterday than I did at the Thanksgiving dinner at my boyfriends' house. My boyfriend's mother, well- kind of a bad cook. It was a lot easier to take small portions and not go for seconds when all of the food was bland! My mom, on the other hand, is a really good cook. I was doing some picking at the food while it was being prepared. And I kept my portions smaller than usual, but the were still bigger than they should have been. I definitely felt fuller after yesterday's meal than I did after the first one.

But I still feel ok about the day overall. I walked 2 miles in the morning and I started to incorporate some slow jogging into it (I would like to start running again). And I also took a walk after dinner to help burn off some extra calories.

Now it's time to get back to normal meals!

emoticon Just think about what it would have been last year. Sounds like the food was delicious and that also matters.

One Thanksgiving down and feeling good!

Friday, November 23, 2012

One down and one more to go today.

I think yesterday's meal was a success! I kept my portions down at dinner and didn't go back for second like I always have before (and occasionally thirds...). I drank water throughout the day and limited my alcoholic beverages. And I went easy on the desserts!

What made me feel really great was that at the end of the night, several hours after eating the meal, when everyone was still incredibly overstuffed, I was actually starting to get a little bit hungry again because I didn't over eat!

I'm feeling good this morning and I'm going to do another good workout before my second (successful) Thanksgiving dinner today.

I am thankful!

Thursday, November 22, 2012

Wishing everyone a very happy and safe Thanksgiving! Don't forget to keep your goals in mind, I know that I will and I will definitely be practicing portion control today! Today I am thankful that I have made the decision to make my body healthy and I am thankful that I finally have the drive to see that decision through. Now it's time to get outside and fit in some exercise before the day begins for me!

Have a wonderful day!
