I was reminded this morning in my devotional, that what I'm looking for isn't the number on the scale, but peace. Of course the fact that the number on the scale returned to 196 (the lowest I've been in this journey.... I tend to go down, then up for a while, then down, etc.) seemed to give me peace this morning. Peace that I am on the right track, that I am working hard to acheive these goals.

I also realized that meeting this goal in September will put me down 25 lbs since beginning this journey on June 11. Kinda a big number (with bigger ones to come.)

I also have figured out that my lack of exercise is kinda putting me in a stale-mate with the scale. So I need to get back on the wagon today, and get some exercising in.

Goal... 7 more lbs this month. 27 days to go! It feels like such a big goal to me, and I think it is because I have never set small term goals like this. I've always set goals that are BIG and WAY in the Future, so the immediacy of them doesn't ever seem to hit home. Then a couple months in, I realize there's no way I'm going to hit the goal by then, so I change the "goal date"... which makes me feel like I am right on track still, although I have totally missed the mark.

I'm trying hard to focus on this small goal, and my own resolutions for this month in my healthy living change. It's hard, but I can do this!!

25 lbs in less than three months...fantastic! You're well on your way, so don't sigh when you weigh. emoticon

May I suggest you make peace with your scale. It likes you and wants to encourage you, yet it must be truthful - who else will. But you are expecting her to do too much - to take your weight and adjust for the water weight retention due to salt or morning dehydration; both which can make turns for as much as 3-7 lbs of weight up or down. Also after exercising a lot, just when your mind think whammo I'm going to get my gal scale to praise me in a big way, she tells you no way - you've put on more weight - what she can't tell you is that your muscles are like thirsty sponges after exercising and NEED the extra fluids to increase mitochondrial growth (translated build muscle).

Ms. Scale is pretty black and white (or whatever yours prints out in). She doesn't see if your skin just sponged up another 1 lbs after taking a shower, or if it is a particularly hot day to you're breathing out a lot more of that moist air. She just puts up with the worst view of our whole body and gives the truthful bottom line.

Peace comes in knowing you did the best you could in the days before both in exercise, eating, sleep, trusting that stresses are only challenges allowing you to grow and happiness is something that you gift to your own mind by trusting you have a noble purpose in this universe....now you look down and see the number for what it is a reflection of where you are now modified by salt and water and worry and bad sleep and building muscle and bye bye fat....and you will get to the end of your journey and you will be a better person when you get there. Peace!

Now go smile at your scale and say something nice to her and maybe she'll repay the favor!

In September
I WILL weigh less than 190!
I WILL meet my daily nutrition guidelines.
I WILL workout 360 minutes PER WEEK! (Which means that Saturday could be spent in 6 hours of exercise if I don't discipline myself!)
I WILL bring my own snacks to the THREE days I spend watching football games (to avoid the consession stand).
I WILL get my sodium under control in September.
I WILL strength train a minimum of 2x per week for 30 minutes or more!

Grocery Shopping

Saturday, July 28, 2012

Alright... so today at the store was ... different. I implemented the following TIPS...

1. Stick to the outer edges of the store.
2. Don't let the kids (only brought one today) into the center isles, but have them "stand guard at the endcaps while you make a mad dash into the forbidden center isles.
*** note... the one time I deviated from this plan I ended up with some cookies in my cart, but we did opt for sugar-free wafers.
3. Use your list!

I came home with a lot of items for the fridge and very few for the pantry. (some Triscuits, kids cereal, pickles, whole wheat bread, whole wheat speghetti, and fiber one bars).

I feel accomplished.

In need....

Friday, July 27, 2012

I'm in need...
Of accountability, encouragement, advice, friendship, feedback....

So I joined LIVE today and we will see what the next 90 days will bring! I'm almost 34 and as I am entering my MID-30s, I need to make the changes necessary to have a healthier lifestyle. I've never been THIN, graduating high school at 170, and my highest non-pregnant weight was about 235. My parents and only sister have weight issues and healthy food habits was never taught. On the opposite, my family (husband and five kids) struggle to keep from being underweight! DH weighs in just under 130 as opposed to my 198 on the scale this morning.

I have done all the diets... and had some success in college with weight watchers (although I never hit my goal) and had my MOST success with Atkins in 2003-2004 when I went from 225 to 142.5! But I gained it all back when I got pregnant the last time. Since then I have hovered in the 210s and I think I may have gotten in the high 180s briefly... but I just haven't been able to make the shift to lose it and keep it off for good.

So... this is where I NEED the help.

I've gotten good at tracking my food. I'm trying hard to work at improving and increasing exercise. It has always been my downfall!

Make small changes and slowly add them to your repertoir. Hold yourself accountable by filling in your food tracker every day. Take it one small step at a time and don't try to change your whole life all at once.
