Back on track!

Sunday, January 09, 2011

I've been gone for a few months. Stress, depression and major negativity kept me away from Sparkpeople and from my goals.
Well, it's a New Year and I'm ready for the "New" me! I'm back on track and ready for change! emoticon

Well done for getting back on track! Good luck with your goals!
Having a granddaughter, I know how difficult it is and tiring to look after young children! Make sure you get plenty of rest and me time!

One Raisin

Sunday, October 03, 2010

Today I attended a workshop at our local Meditation center. It was called Food and Body Image.
I signed up for the class hoping to get some tips on how to eat more responsibly. But I came away with so much more.

After meeting the teacher, my classmates and a brief meditation we had our first exercise. We sat in a group of four and spoke about our issues with our bodies and food and how our families influenced these feelings. One person spoke for five minutes and the other three listen without commenting. I was the last to go and I ended up getting teary and choked up when I spoke about
my family. We used food as a way to celebrate and I associate food with affection. Which explains why I like to bake and eat cookies and cakes with my kids. It was embarrassing to cry in front of strangers but I feel good that I had a little break through.

Our second exercise was about mindful eating and involved a raisin. We took five minutes to eat one raisin! We held the raisin in the palm of our hand and studied the appearance. The teacher had us think about the life stages of the raisin. The soil it grew in, the people that picked it, and how it traveled to the store. We finally put it in our mouths, held it on our tongues and moved it around our mouths. After slowly chewing the raisin and swallowing, we talked about how our bodies knew how to turn this raisin into energy. And pondered if the energy from this raisin would be used to fuel a smile or a heartbeat or a wink or a giggle.(this made me tear up too) Food is truly a gift.

This was an amazing way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I gained knowledge and spent time with a group of amazing women.

Sounds like a GREAT opportunity! Thanks for sharing. It is so hard to learn to rethink the way we treat food. Reading this blog puts it into perspective.

Our family also used food to show affection and reward. I have done the same thing with my oldest boys. Now I am watching my 19yo college son let his weight get out of control.

Great Day

Sunday, September 19, 2010

Today was awesome.
I took my daughter to her friend's, the twins, birthday party. It was held by the bay.
The highlight of the party was a walk on the the mud flats to look for crab and other critters.
Oh, and I didn't eat or even taste a cupcake!

And Finally the Party

Monday, August 30, 2010

Saturday was the big Party. It was too warm for me to wear my fabulous dress. But, I wore a beautiful new tunic and a pair of leggings. My husband said I looked HOT! ;)
This party was for a classmate of my daughter. He turned five and the celebration was at his grandma's beautiful home in Napa. The house was INCREDIBLE! There were fruit trees, a warm water pool and a sculpture garden. The hosts were so gracious. We swam, picked fruit, enjoyed the art and had yummy healthy food for lunch. And I only ate ONE chocolate cupcake.

What a great way to spend the last Saturday of summer! (before the start of school)
