Glad to be back!!!

I am so thankful to finally have internet access at home once again. I really missed Sparking and the encouragement that I receive here. However, I have been able to keep in touch with some of my Spark Friends during the time I was away due to having FB on my Kindle.

This post is long overdue. My 5K in April was great. I cried before we even started the race just because I couldn't believe that I had stuck with something from beginning to end. To God be all of the Glory. I finished the race in 42:03 and I felt great about that. My goal for my first race was to FINISH upright and alive, LOL. I ran with two friends and one of them ran slower than myself so I kept pace with her so that we could finish together.

Since the race I have been up and down with my weight but kept up with my exercise. Some of the ladies that I met in my group have become good friends and we have worked out together and ran another 5K. That time I beat my PR and finished in 37:33 WOOHOO. I have another to run this Saturday with my children and I am excited to be able to share this with them. They have been very supportive and was there to cheer for me on race day. They even made signs :-)

I am back and my focus is to lose 20lbs by Fall, Lord willing. I will close this post with a few pics from race day.

Thanks for all of the messages and well wishes. I couldn't continue on this journey without my Spark Friends!!

    I am so glad you followed through with your 5K :) There is nothing like crossing that finish line :) I still remember my first one like it was yesterday. You were the first person to friend me on SP, so I'm very glad to "see" you again. It's been six months since I joined and I've dropped 23 pounds. I joined a BLC team six weeks ago, which has been an interesting and fun endeavor. I have 12 pounds to go to reach my 2013 goal. I now weigh less than I have in about 15 years. I know these 12 pounds will be hard to lose, but I'm persevering.

March has been extremely busy for me. However, I managed to fit in lots of exercise, bible reading and healthier choices. I am pleased with my progress so far this year. Although the pounds are not falling off as quickly as I would like, I feel that I am improving in so many other areas of my life.

The last two weeks have been filled with birthdays and vacation with my family. I didn't watch what I ate and tried not to go overboard with the treats. I failed some days especially during my PMS days but I am committed to getting back on track because being healthy and fit is a lifestyle.

I am looking forward to April for many reasons. The warmer weather and longer days will provide lots of outside time for my family. My children love the outdoors and I enjoy seeing them explore and enjoy creation emoticon.

The other reason that I am excited about April is because on April 13th, I will run my first 5K emoticon emoticon ever and a long time goal of mine will be fulfilled. I have trained hard physically and grown so much spiritually. I can only imagine the emotion that well up inside of me on that day. I can only Praise God because He has been with me every step of the way.

April Goal

Run 5K (no personal time goal, I just want to finish upright and alive, LOL)
Quiet Time Daily
Blog Weekly
Be active on my Spark Teams
Exercise 5 days a week
Eat better, less junk
Track food
Drink Water
Sleep well

I know that I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. I am looking forward to April and all of the blessings that will come.

Spring is in the air!!!

I am looking forward to a new week. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous here in NC and I see glimpses of Spring all around me. I love this time of the year and especially having more daylight in the evenings.

I am still plugging along in my Biggest Loser Challenge. It really does help to have accountability and each week we are encouraged to stretch to new heights in our choices and levels of fitness. I have lost some pounds but mostly inches and I feel so much better. I love the support of the Butterfly team.

My Peak 313.com challenge also encouraged me to focus on my spiritual goals. They are also another group of supportive ladies that I am glad to be partnered with. I won the last challenge and received some lovely gifts from our awesome leader Erin. I was completely blown away when I checked the team page and found out that I was the winner. God is so great. I was already a winner even before the challenge ended because I really started to become more focused in my quiet times. I feel centered and focused on what I need to be doing and plan to use everything that I learn to help and serve others.

Week 8 Run For God (Yes we can)

It has been a good week. I feel like I am getting stronger physically, mentally and mostly spiritually. Since being involved in the Run For God group I have been blessed beyond measure. I started off with the goal of finally accomplishing a goal and trying to find a way to put less focus on my personal issues. God has been faithful to help me do just that!

Yesterday after our run, we went back into the neighborhoods that we ran in and put door hangers on the door knobs inviting people to church. The church that hosts our group has a wonderful outreach program that started yesterday. Although I don't attend that church I was happy to help out. If one person's life is touched by that outreach then I know that I have done something worthwhile.

Today our theme was Yes we can! It was our first 20 minute run without stopping emoticon and the week that most of us had been apprehensive about. We discussed having faith in God and believing that He could help us do the impossible. We have all kinds of levels in our group: walkers, joggers, and woggers. I think I fall in the latter group emoticon.

Our warm up began and everyone was chatting and beaming with excitement. I took off slowly when it was time to run because I wanted to pace myself. I knew that I could do it because I had run over 30 minutes previously on treadmill. Running outside was different because the belt of the treadmill is not keeping pace for me. After ten minutes I felt myself getting winded and noticed that the chatter of the group had all but ceased. We were focused!!! I had to start quoting every scripture that I could think of to get me through. What I love about this group is that everyone was cheering for each other emoticon . Our leaders would stop and high five everyone as they passed through emoticon . It was awesome. I made it and I give God all of the glory.

    Wow more then good job on the physical accomplishment is a Praise God how you leaned upon our mighty GOD. Oh what glories he must receive when we are so focused on him.

Praise God for the scripture memory you used to make it through. Not many people can say they have scripture memorized like that. We have been working with the children before sleep to do their memory verses. It's incredible how we are all learning them. :) Praise God for his WORD.

He gives us moments like these to use the scripture we have stored away in our minds, but these moments are preparation for the days to come when we may not have the Bible anymore. For we may have those taken away some day, but we can thank the Lord for the scripture we stored away in our minds.

    Yay for you, running 20 minutes without stopping. I'm participating in a C25K Spark team and am in week 4 (for the second week in a row). I've signed up for local 5K in April at Willow Creek Church, which supports their compassion ministries. It will be my first attempt at jogging a whole 5K. Right now, I can't quite picture me doing it in April. But, I'm thrilled for you! Good going!

Running and loving it!

This picture makes me so happy. I have been participating in a small group bible study called Run for God. Each week we discuss our bible lesson, share our struggles and victories as well as learning the basics of running. Our group has about 40 people of all ages, shapes sizes, backgrounds and even some from different churches. I love coming together with other sisters and brothers in Christ.

Our foundation verse comes from Hebrews 12:1 which states:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

I found out about this class while attending a women's conference. I went into that conference desperately needing a word from the Lord. You see I had many things that were entangling me and preventing me from moving forward. While I was waiting for the service to begin the church announcements scrolled across the screen in the front of the sanctuary. When I saw that this class would be starting the very next day my heart began to leap. For the first time in a long time I felt hopeful about something that I could maybe accomplish.

Doubt began to rear its ugly head. I began to think of all the reasons that I couldn't do it. 'You never finish what you start.' 'You are still fat' and on and on... The conference began but I couldn't stop thinking about that class because I knew that I had the desire to run again. Each November I made plans to run the Turkey Trot in my town and each year something would come up. I would be devastated.

During the break, I made my way to the table set up in the lobby and met the nicest ladies. They encouraged me and told me that I could do it and that I should show up the next day for the informational meeting. I didn't even have the money for the book but I prayed and asked God if He would make a way.

Well, I went to the class and I got even more excited. After class when everyone was paying the registration fee I decide to ask if I could sign up but buy my book in the next two weeks because I didn't have the money that day. The lady in charge of the ministry informed me that someone had donated two books and one of them was mine. Well Glory!!!!! I stood there in awe, then began to thank her and the Lord.

I cannot express how thankful I am to have this opportunity. I was trying to do Couch 2 5K on my own and was doing pretty good but I love having a group to run with. Our graduation race will be in April and I am super excited!

    So awesome Veronica! God always comes through- love that they (and HE!) blessed you with a book! Just shows how much our Daddy loves us, that He looks to even the smaller things in life and says "I've got it under control! I will provide for ALL of your needs!"

The running group sounds like so much fun! I haven't ran since I hurt my hip last Feb, it's been a year now and I'm "getting the itch" to run again. Pretty sure my doctor would look at me like I'm crazy, lol! But maybe if I start slower this time...

    So happy to hear this story. It is awesome how everything worked out perfectly. You are a runner! Love that verse, love that you're running for God and are part of a supportive group with similar goals. Want to do something similar. Also interested in Chi Running.

    Wow, I like the idea! Exercise is very meditative, and if you combine it with scripture, you have something to meditate on while running. Keep up the good work!
