2013 Changing the way I do things

New year resolutions vary and often we lose steam, focus and end up back to old habits. They say it takes 21 days to make a habit, so whatever your resoutlons are make it part of your daily routine for 21 days. My thought for this year is that Just as we maintain our cars, our gardens and our homes; we should maintain our health as part of a regular wellness plan. I have always been horrible at remembering my vitamins, and hate taking pills so that is why I fell in love with Nutrametrix isometric supplement line and decided to be a distributor. Particularly in the winter everyone's vitamin D is down, and I take it every morning 5000mg. As well as my B-complex, mutli and OPC-3 Antitoxidant. I also started the transistion lifestyle program that I also represent, because I Know that low Glycemic is the best way to eat healthy, maintain blood sugar and boost metabolism, I don't believe in diets I believe in lifestyle changes. So For me My new years resolution is take the Journey of a healthier me, and Discovery to pursue my passion to educate others on health and wellness benefits. Also as a massage therapist I know the importance to maintaining the body to keep muscles and joints flexible, relieve tension and stress, improve circulation, and give relief to injury and disease. So Make 2013 a year of Health!

At the Heart of every Kitchen is a Cooks Love

Health and wellness is not just about ourselves but also about those around us. It's not just about the nourishment we put in our bodies but also about the way we approach food for mental health. Life moves so fast and seems to be getting faster between work, children events etc...we are eating on the go.One of my favorite childhood memories was the sunday meal sitting around the table as a family it was the only day we did that. As years went by it seemed to move from the table to the living room with the tv on. But i remained a sitting at the table kind of eater.

I have always had a tenderness for encouraging every Dinner time to sit as a family, shut the tv off - it is family time, laughter, conversation. Even more endearing are the times during the meal preperation standing around in the kitchen engaging, sharing, laughing. It's a great tradition. Personally I am passionate about cooking/baking I find it therapeutic.

making change happen

We all have the power to make changes in our lives wether weight loss, fitness goals, job change, emotional, circumstances. Sometimes we get lost in becoming products of our environment, sometimes we lack the motivation, the will power often we feel like lions trapped in a cage restless for change but not knowing how to move in the direction to freedom of change.

I struggle with doing what it takes to lose the weight, it's my own choices that hinder me from moving forward to change, but I can be empowered to just suck it up and get it done tracking calories getting more activity, i get tired of it constantly on my mind that i am a failure, but i realized that change has to be more than just physical it has to be internal, and you have to pursue things you are passionate about to make you feel alive, and then it will come naturally to eat healthier, get more activity because the better you feel mentally/emotionally the rest falls into place naturally.

I also was stuck in a miserable job, i have always wanted to make a career change that makes a difference in others lives, and a career that fits the lifestyle i want to lead..... my blessings came in the form of job layoff the timing was so perfect that i was able to get into a massage therapy certification program the following month when classes began, and even more than that I got financing for school and i didn't stress about how would i pay it back i just took a leap of faith and figured it will all work itself out, Sometimes we let fear hinder us from moving forward but we need to just take that leap of faith, follow our gut and know that if this is what we are meant to do, if this is where we are suppose to be at this moment in our life than in the end everythng will work itself out.

So i completed my 6 month certification, and then came the job search, it did not look promising, but i decided to take a LEAP of FAith, and walk through the door of two places that I really, really, really thought would be ideal places I wanted to work at, they werent hiring, but i brought in my resume, and guess what?? That leap of faith ignited a call from both places, they were so impressed with my resume, they wanted to CREATE a position to bring me on board!!!!! but i still had to go through the 2-3 interview process.

then came the decision of waying my option which one best suite the direction i wanted my career to take, it was hard because both had so many similarities but in the end it was one place that fit my personality best and seemed like more possibilities for the direction of my career.... and on this past Friday

I got a job! I'm so excited about the potential. It is at a Fitness club that is massive huge with indoor pool, raquet ball court, exercise classes, state of art cardio and weight equip, and more... , 3000 members and you never wait for a piece of equipment that is how big the place is, and they hold contracts with Huge companies to do wellness health fairs, and work with the local hospital for wellness programs, and I GET FREE gym memership :-)

The GREAT news is i have signed up for volunteer opportunities working with hospital Cancer and local domestic violence, that this will provide potential of creating massage therapy programs in conjuction with their programs and have clients come to the fitness club.... I'm so excited to be part of something that could be 'huge' for awareness of the benefits of massage for healing, improved quality of life it's not just an extravaganz pampering, but a total body maintence like changing the oil in your car, massage keeps your body tuned up.

Dreams do come true for a new career direction, making a difference, and connecting with others.... MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN

Commercial break workout anytime or during biggest loser tonight

Use commercials to squeeze in these easy but effective strength moves

Every hour-long TV show has about six commercial breaks that last 3 minutes each, so you can get a decent total body workout while you watch—no gym necessary. Do 10 to 15 repetitions of each exercise, followed by the aerobic component, until the show starts.

1. Couch Push-Ups
These modified pushups sculpt your triceps and chest.

Facing a couch, kneel on the floor about 2 feet away from it. Cross your ankles, and place your hands shoulder-width apart on a cushion edge. Slowly bend your arms, and lower your upper body until your chest touches the couch. Hold, then press up again.

Cardio finish: Do jumping jacks.

2. Side Crunches
These work your oblique muscles for a trimmer tummy.

Lie on the couch on your left side with your legs together and your knees bent. Place your right hand behind your head with your elbow pointing toward the ceiling. Wrap your left arm across your waist. Contracting the oblique muscles along your right side, lift your shoulder off the couch, bringing your rib cage toward your hip. Hold, then slowly lower. Repeat, then switch sides. (If your couch is too soft, you may need to do this exercise on the floor.)

Cardio finish: Do crossover punches. While standing, twist from your waist, and alternate punching your fists diagonally across your body.

3.Armchair Stands
This variation on squats tones your butt and thighs.
Sit on the edge of a chair or couch with your feet shoulder-width apart. Without using your arms, press into the floor with your feet, and stand, tightening your butt muscles as you rise. Keep your abdominals tight and your back straight. Hold, then slowly lower yourself. Before you touch the chair, stand up again.

Cardio finish: Walk or jog up and down stairs

4. Armchair Dips
These moves are the ultimate arm flab fighter.
Sitting on the edge of a chair (or couch), place your hands on the edge on either side of you. Move your feet out so that your butt is off the chair, and your knees are bent at 90-degree angles. Bending your elbows so they point behind you, lower yourself as far as comfortable. Hold, then slowly press up again.

Cardio finish: Circle your fists in the air, as though you’re boxing a punching bag.

5. Leg-Up Couch Crunches
Watch your form on these for maximum flat-belly benefits.
Lie on your back on a couch with your knees bent, your feet up on one end, and your hands behind your head. Pressing your lower back into the couch, slowly lift your head, shoulders, and upper back off the couch. Hold, then slowly lower. (If your couch is too soft, you may need to do this exercise on the floor.)

Cardio finish: Do knee lifts. While standing, alternate bringing your right elbow down to meet your left knee, and vice versa.

6. Scissors
These will help your legs look amazing in skinny jeans.
Lie on your back on a couch (you may need to angle yourself for more room) with your hands (palms down) under your butt and your legs straight up in the air. Keeping your knees slightly bent and your feet flexed, slowly spread your legs as far apart as comfortable. Hold, then slowly bring your legs together, resisting as you press them in.

Cardio finish: Do side slides, stepping your right foot out to the side, then sliding your left foot to meet it. Repeat in the opposite direction, doing this as quickly as you can.

I was just reading my intro and thought 2010 has not been a year of action. The past 3 mnths i have gained 10lbs. and limited to no activity. I suppose at 42 having been laid off work, then spending 6 months training for a new career field, racking up 12K in debt for massage school, and now 2 months searching for work in a completely new field that will require me to diligently network and sell myself to bring in clients, all this can take it's toll and i have put my weight, eating on the back burner and now it's time to get BALANCE and merge the transition of a new healthy life style working as a massage therapist, getting and being as fit as i can be, and what a better time than with Biggest loser season starting this coming tuesday, just the motivation i need. I cancelled my gym membership since i wasn't using it, but With blessings of a new career direction, comes the possible blessing of a free gym membership.... Yup I may have found a Job, at a Gym!! as massage therapist, and it comes with free gym membership... so Yippee!! When i am actually doing a massage i wore my hearrate monitor and burn like 300 cal per massage so while i was in school i was burning like 900-1200 massage per day!! I have not done a massage in 2 months and going in withdrawals... I'm just babbling and not sure what the point of my blog is except it is for me to get my thoughts out there...... I've been depressed, i've gained weight, I've been eating bad... and I am just psyched to get my head back on track to healthy living. Some new things i've put into my life trying to find balance is..... total declutter, i have cleaned out and organized every crevace of my apartment, (well i still have a few more places to organize and clean out) but have spent the past few weeks getting my life in order, I also have started to read about meditation, and today was lesson one.... breathing, I also have a learn to crochet book, and finally picked it up and practice some loops so hoping to move that along, and another lesson is learning a new language... Italian, i always wanted to speak another language, and know some spanish, and after reading eat, love, pray it just kind of lit a fire in me to want to learn italian, perhaps with the intention an Italian man will come into my life... lol..... hmm maybe that is why i made room in my closet... LOL I also have also been intrigued about the properties of stones, and bought a few... agate, rose quartz, selenite, citrine, ameythst... kind of interesting stuf... check it out www.crystal-cure.com/gemstone-meanin

Don't worry or feel guilty about those 10 pounds - they don't worry or feel guilty about you. ;) I think all this work you have done will absolutely make things very different for you this time around. The point of your blog? Here you are taking a step towards your vision of who you want to be ... just a little baby step towards health and wellness. Isn't that just amazing what you've just done?
