Kitchen Revisited

Saturday, July 13, 2013

Well I am rediscovering my love of cooking - and all those kitchen gadgets.
I have been making some great recipes from the Spark Solution book.. they are easy and delicious for the most part. It has made me appreciate putting in the extra effort to cook and clean. The old me would just order out. So unhealthy.
I am having fun rediscovering all those kitchen toys I haven't used in a while....
Sometimes I really don't have it in me to cook, but now i have a few healthy leftovers available for those weak moments. Hope I'll also find more energy to do this as it also becomes more just a part of daily routine.

I've enjoyed using the online sparkrecipes. Not only is it fun to find recipes to use, but you get sparkpoints for making them too!

Cooking is so much fun! I love finding good cook books because it helps me expand my cooking repertoire more. My husband appreciates my efforts, even if whatever I make doesn't come out great. But that's why we experiment!

I do have to say, that I've been cooking more since we moved to TX just because the easy access to takeout isn't here like it was in NY.

A Birthday Message

Tuesday, July 09, 2013

I got a great Birthday email from Spark last night. It really sums up where I'm at.

First a quote from Ernest Meyers: "Don't just count your years, make your years count."

On my Birthday i am not focusing on my past life, but my present one.
During the next year, I plan to change my priorities.
Spend more time with family and friends, take care of my body and health by eating well and exercising regurlary, and offer help to others in need.

Thought for the day: What matters most to me? Reflect that in my daily life

Well, I feel cheated. Sparkpeople never sent me a special birthday email...
Did everyone else get one but me?

    I had a wonderful day.
Went to a great restaurant with amazing atmosphere.

Instead of an alcoholic beverage, I ordered water and bitters from the bar. Still having new experiences at 56!! Sent the bread away, and gave specific instructions on how I wanted my meal prepared. When it came it was one of the most delicious dinners I've had in awhile (also helped that I didn't have to cook it!)
After dinner I left feeling full of energy and happy rather than bloated and blocked.

Back Again

Wednesday, May 04, 2011

Well it's been over a year. One filled with many changes. I'm living a new life, but at a price.
I wasn't ready to handle all the changes and one of the easiest to fall away from is my relationship to food and my body.

I think I'm ready to live my life with a new purpose. It feels different and so I'm back to use the wonderful support from SparkPeople.

And so there is no failure as long as I keep coming back.

If you read this, wish me luck!

Trust in yourself not the scale.

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Even early my resolve is being tested. So after my second week, I gained a pound! It seemed so unfair. I was within my caloric count. I was exercising. Why wasn't my good work giving me the reward I expected?

Well, it happened the following week when I lost that pound and 3 more! I really wanted to give up, and I certainly backed away from tracking everything last week.

My only advice to myself and others is that this is a lifestyle, don't loose perspective about a number.... The number is a by-product only and not the reason to be living healthy. The number will change regardless of what seems fair. Trust in yourself and how good this feels.

Amen. It is discouraging to not see the scale move in the right directions. All we can do is keep doing the work and in time we will have the great results.
