77 Days of Autumn - Changing seasons, changing me

Thursday, September 06, 2012

Summer officially comes to an end at my house, the swimming pool is closed now and I am so sad because I was hoping to swim another 3-4 weeks. Our sand filter decided not to filter the water anymore so we had to close it a few weeks early. Swimming pool I will miss you and I look forward to water jogging and swimming next season !

Fall is the best time to get outside and walk., I feel very blessed to live in the country and to have a beautiful place to walk right outside my front door. It is so pretty out right now, the trees are green and the air is fresh(in the morning and evening) and hundreds of birds sing and chatter at me as I walk. Soon the leaves on the trees will start to turn yellow, orange, red and brown and the air will have a wonderful crispness to it. I would like to walk 3-4 miles at least 4-5 days per week.... to start I will do 1-2 miles on 4-5 days per week.

As the season changes, the produce choices change. I need to find some new healthy recipes using apples and pumpkin. I look forward to making some tasty veggie soup. I love all the healthy soups, savory casseroles, roasted chicken and veggies to name a few fall favorites.

I will make good choices during the holidays and remember that moderation is the key. When Halloween arrives I will not eat all the candy...maybe just a couple of snack size candies. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because family gets together, we cook together and hang out chit-chatting. My favorite Thanksgiving food is turkey breast. I plan to have a veggie tray to snack on so that chips and dip wont be as tempting...moderation. We make roasted brussel sprouts and they are so healthy and tasty... love them ! After dinner I will try to gather up as much family as I can and go for a nice walk !

I lost 30 lbs this summer between 5/5/12 and 8/30/12 during the 100 Days of Summer. I went down 2 pant sizes from size 18 to size 14. I lost 4.5 inches from my waist, 4.5 inches from my hips, 4 inches off each thigh (wow), about 3 inches from my chest, 1 inch off each calf, 1 inch off my upper arms and 3/4 inch off my neck.

My goal for 77 days of Autumn is to lose at least 15 lbs in 11 weeks. I mostly want to be healthy and fit and the number on the scale is not as important (sometimes I obsess about the number on the scale), but it would be nice to be into size 12 before winter.

"Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels". I can do this, we can do this !!!

Excellent in every way!
If you want to share any of your fall recipes, or recommend a SP recipe, please pass along the tips. I love roasted veggies but "hate" brussel sprouts, so maybe I will try your version.
Congratulations on both the pounds lost and the benefits gained!!! Wonderful!!!

Plantar fascitis ...ouch

Thursday, July 26, 2012

Well I am having a flareup with plantar fascitis ....ouch... it hurts my feet when I first get up or if sitting awhile and get up my feet hurt a lot. I am doing stretches in the morning before I get out of bed and then doing a stretch against the wall to stretch the tendon in my foot as needed.

Just a small annoyance right now ....hoping it does not get any worse. I have my ice water bottle ready if I have to ice it.

Hope the feet are feeling better soon, my husband bought inserts and that seemed to help him alot, also needed to rest it a bit to heal :) Wishing you the best week, My friend!

Hope they feel better! I dealt with PF for 10+ yrs. Was finally referred to a podiatrist who gave me cortizone shots and have been pain free for 3 yrs. :)

My sympathy! Had PF in both feet, repeated times. Tried stretching. Tried sleeping in special boots (different versions). Nothing helped until my trainer suggested Lynco Orthotics. I got mine from a local retailer who suggested the correct style for my feet.

I have planter fascitis too. The frozen water bottle is helping the most for me right now and I am only comfortable in Birkenstocks - ugly sandals but better than limping all day. Hope yours is better soon. emoticon

Size 14 .... I am coming to get you soon !

Saturday, July 14, 2012

I found an articles with measurements to determine pant size. Does this look about right for you ? I guess each brand has it's own chart but this is helpful and looks to be correct.
I wonder why they have a waist to hip difference of 10 inches, my waist is not 10 inches smaller than my hips....not yet anyways LOL I find this odd since when I find pants that fit over my hips and tush (ughh...and thighs) ....the waist is usually too large.

I am wearing 16s right now ...but I think I am close to wearing 14s. My pants are feeling loose and I have been catching myself pulling them up alot lately.

Compare your waist and hip measurements against your brand's size chart according to your build category. For example, JC Penney's misses size chart :
Size 0 (extra small): Waist = 24 inches and hips = 34.5 inches
Size 2 (extra small):: Waist = 25 inches and hips = 35.5 inches
Size 4 (small): Waist = 26 inches and hips = 36.5 inches
Size 6 (small): Waist = 27 inches and hips = 37.5 inches
Size 8 (medium): Waist = 28 inches and hips = 38.5 inches
Size 10 (medium): Waist = 29 inches and hips = 39.5 inches
Size 12 (large): Waist = 30.5 inches and hips = 41 inches
Size 14 (large): Waist = 31 to 32 inches and hips = 42.5 inches
Size 16 (extra large): Waist = 33.5 inches and hips = 44 inches
Size 18 (extra large): Waist = 35.5 inches and hips = 46 inches
Size 20 (extra extra large): Waist = 37.5 inches and hips = 48 inches

This article also has men and children clothing measurements for JcPenney.

I'm so glad to hear that you've gone down a size. CONGRATS!!! That's emoticon and emoticon

To answer your question regarding why the waist measurement is so much smaller than the hip one - that's because most companies use "natural waistline" - this is kind of where your upper body meets your lower body and is MUCH higher up than most of us think it is. For most every day stuff, we think of (or maybe it's just me) the waist as where our belly button is but the "waist" measurements clothing companies are using are actually higher up on the body than that.

I find their "guidelines" useful to a certain extent but I never trust any pair of pants until I've tried them on. Some brands have very, very bad QC.

I know this because my mom works in the fashion industry.

OK I feel silly now ....I was looking at chart and then I went to my measurements and my hips are 42.5 exactly so I should be in size 14s.

I went digging through all my clothes and found size 14 slacks ....they fit ! I found a size 16 Woman's navy blue short sleeve suit that was on small size (kept it because regular price $89 and I got it for $11 after sale and coupons) so I could not wear...I can now (perfect fit). No size 14 jeans to try on ...I tried some 14 jean capri's that were with my size 12s and they are too tight (maybe why I had with 12s). I am excited now because I have so many cute clothes in size 12 and size 10. I can't wait to wear all my OLD new clothes !!! emoticon emoticon

Down 2 Pant Sizes !!! (From 45.5 inches to 42.5 inches on hips)

My waist is always larger than my hip (flat butt). I just use my hip size for fit and it usually works out better for me.

Don't dread exercise...have fun !

Thursday, July 12, 2012

So I have been thinking about my fitness goals for the next 30 days and I have decided that I will focus on swimming and walking ! So for now I will work on endurance and my primary exercise will be walking and swimming. If I want to dance I will, do some yard work that sounds good and if I feel like trying a new cardio video (like Bollywood) I will !

However, I have decided I won't do exercise that I don't like. Who wants to dread doing their daily exercise. If you don't enjoy it ... you won't do it !

I plan to walk or swim for at least 30 minutes, 6 days a week. I will continue to try new things. I won't waste my time doing things I dislike.

It is SO much easier to stick with it when you're enjoying it! That's why I got into hula hooping and I now teach classes in water aerobics. I have the best time with my classes :)
