I am the mother of a State Champion!

Sunday, May 27, 2012

My son plays hook for a local high school age rugby team. Friday was their regional play off game.

They won the game 13 to 8 and advanced to the semi-finals on Saturday morning.

They won that game 17 to 5 and advanced to the finals later in the day.

The game was delayed due to heavy rains but they finally got to play. They won that game 19 to 12 to become the STATE CHAMPIONS!!

Brings back memories of my son's high school days. Even though his team took 2nd (in basketball) it was such a fun time and you and he will remember it for a long time! Congratulations!

Wishbone Day Celebration!

Monday, May 07, 2012

Yesterday was the 3rd Annual Wishbone Day. My family celebrated of course since my dh has Osteogenesis Imperfecta, or brittle bones. He has broken over 300 bones in his 54 years of life. His last major break was a year ago--a broken left shoulder/humerus bone in 3 places from tripping on a rug at church. Since then he has had some broken toes from stubbing them and a few cracked ribs from sneezing but in our life those are considered minor breaks and we handle them at home.

Here are some photos we took yesterday to document the day:

All of us all me this was not an easy shot to get, it took a few tries (lol)

May 6th--3rd Annual Wishbone Day!

Sunday, May 06, 2012

Today my family will be going yellow to help raise awareness of OI (Osteogenesis Imperfecta) which my dh has. My dh is 54 years old and has broken over 300 bones in his lifetime, his first ones being when he was born. For some families like my dh's it is genetic (his father had OI as do two of his sisters) He also has uncles and cousins with OI. For other families it is a spontaneous mutation in the genes. We were lucky that we were able to have two healthy children who do not have OI.

3 months

Wednesday, May 02, 2012

Well, been back on Spark People for 3 months now and I've lost 9.8 pounds so far. My jeans are so loose that I don't have to unbutton them to pull them on/off. I've even noticed that my wedding ring is starting to feel a little looser (I can even take it off/on now and find myself playing with it sometimes).

My progress has been slower than I would like but I know that I am older now than the last time I lost my weight. I also know that my health isn't as good as it used to be, partly because I gained back some of the weight I lost (kind of a double edge sword). But I am determined to keep pushing along and taking it one day at a time. I want to regain my health and really start living life again!!

My daughter got her state refund deposited into her bank account today so she decided she wanted to buy lunch for everyone. Well the place she wanted to go everything is pretty much fried. So, I said you three go ahead and get something and I will just eat here at home. I seriously couldn't think of one thing from the restaurant that would of been safe for them to bring me home.

So while they sat there crunching their fried foods (which after awhile actually even started sounding gross) I was eating what my son said was bland, gross food. But you know what...I was happy with my decision!! I enjoyed my lunch and I am glad that I didn't waste all my calories (and possibly more) on just one meal. I ate a nice healthy lunch that gave me nutrients that my body needs to be healthy. I made a decision that will help me reach my goals instead of make me feel guilty and send me into a spiral of bad decisions.

I made the right choice for me and that is what is important.
