Still waiting for my 2 front teeth

Sunday, January 04, 2009

"All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth" or so the song goes. I'll be checking in with a dentist tomorrow! Yea! I hope he's good at this. I leave town in a couple of days and would like to lose the snaggle-tooth look.

I'm feeling better every day. Yesterday I got brave and didn't slather my face with make-up. The whole right side of my face is green. I wore sunglasses in the gym because my eye is still pretty scary. And yesterday, I tested out a few solid foods after being just on liquids for the last week. I can't yet totally close my mouth to chew, but I can grind a little. Oh, I'd love to bite into an apple or even a plum. Can't do either yet. I understand those denture commercials now! emoticon

I'm surprised how much still hurts .. and it's been 9 days since my fall. If my cheekbone isn't better in another week, I'll be trying to find a doctor here to help. It looks and feels like I have a cheek implant on my right side. It's no longer puffy and fluid-filled; it's just solid and hard and sore.

But I can walk!! There's so much good news in this. It could have been much worse. I could have really banged up my legs. My knee looks pretty scary still, but I found some flexible large bandages that work really well. Oh and the liquid diet helped me lose the extra holiday pounds. I had to cancel a trip at the end of this month. I really hated to do that, but I think I need to stay focused on healing. It is going to be a super event, so maybe if things go really well tomorrow, I'll sign back up. It seems indecisive, but actually the decision is to focus on me first and the work has to come 2nd for now.

Gotta go for my walk now.

Glad your feeling better, and hopefully dentist is a whiz at front teeth. I hope you feel well enough to go on your trip but your right YOU are more important at the moment.

yikes!!! I can't believe how banged up you got! The dentist will fix your tooth up and you will never know it was ever chipped.....You're so right it could have been worse. I'm thankful you didn't break anything..well except your tooth!

Next time look where you're walking!

Here's to a speedy recovery....and I hope you are able to reschedule your trip.....

Your friend Kim...

Singing a New Tune at Christmas

Tuesday, December 30, 2008

I'm on vacation with a few days left b4 going home. I had been missing my regular walks, so went for a long one Friday, running my errands on foot instead of in my car. Well, .... I fell into a manhole (womanhole?) and fell forward right into the street. Like a tree falling. So fast, I couldn't even brace my fall with my hands. No car ran over me, but no one stopped to help either. My cheekbone took the full brunt of the fall. I don't think it's meant to carry all those pounds and the force of a fall, too! No broken bones unless you count my broken tooth. A few feel a little wobbly, but only one broke. The side of my face is puffy and turning green now, except for my eye which is a bright purplish black. I'm black and blue all over (shoulder, knees, chin). Good news is that my lip is so swollen that it covers up my broken tooth for now!
:-)

I've learned to slather make-up on my face to make myself more presentable, but I didn't realize how much I smile. I'm practicing keeping my tooth covered. My dentist is out for the rest of this week after I get home, so I'll have to keep my snaggle-tooth look for a while. I hope I don't scare anyone at the airport tomorrow!

I was so happy to have 12 days of vacation that my holiday theme HAD been the 12 Days of Christmas. I've just changed it to, "All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth!"

Oh, and, by the way, when I have to change planes tomorrow, you can bet I'll be the one walking up and down the corridors of the airport. As long as my bruised knee will hold out, I'm getting my steps in!

    Hi Healthy,

You didn't say how you fell on our walk.....a man hole...that could have been even worse. I'm so glad you're ok. Hope you got the tooth fixed or do you have to wait until Monday?

Happy New Year!
Kim

Oh dear I am sorry about the fall and bruises etc. Nice of dentists and doctors to take time off at this time of year. Hope it gets fixed soon and you get home safe and sound. Take it easy and enjoy all that airport strolling, and stay upright!
