Fall 2012 5% Challenge Commitment!!

Monday, September 17, 2012

I am starting the Fall 5% Challenge in a few weeks and the following is my commitment to my Teddy Bear team:
1. I will exercise daily for a minimum of 60 minutes for the 56 days of the challenge. My exercise will be combination of exercise bike, twister board, weights and weight bearing and bone density exercise using walking, floor and core strengthening exercises.
2. I will stay in my calorie range and watch my portion sizes. I will track my food and exercise on spark and on my Team page I will record my daily exercise and Living the Good Life Points.
3. On Saturdays I will weigh in and record it.
4. I will check in with my team daily and leave a comment on the Discussion Board. I will read and comment on blogs as I have time.
5. I will also work to be an encouragement to newbies and support my team mates as we all work on getting healthy together!!
6. I will do what is best for my health each step of the way and measure my self by my effort and consistency. No matter what the scale says I will do my "Beary" best for my team and myself!!
Let the fun begin!!! Smiles Barb

Summer Healthy Bucket List!!

Thursday, June 14, 2012

Hi Sparkers!!
I am starting a summer challenge and committing to a specific "Healthy Bucket list" that I will continue for the summer months!!
1. Exercise 5 days a week on my exercise bike or riding outside on my bike with my family on nice weekend days.
2. Using my twister board for 20 to 30 minutes 1 time per week and building up to 2 days per week over the summer.
3. Go for a mile walk with my dh 2 - 3 days per week to increase my weight bearing exercise for my bone density needs.
4. Lift weights and do my fibromyalgia and core strenghening exercises 3 days per week each.
5. Track my food before I eat it and stay within my calorie, fiber, fat and cholesterol levels.
6. Increase my servings of fiber, fruit and vegetables so that I have 25 to 35 gms of fiber daily
7. Read one healthy article a day and act on one new piece of knowledge per week by making a new recipe, adding in a new exercise or applying one new truth to how I live my life.
8. Do one desired thing each day to "improve" or "benefit' me or for my life environment: , a drawer, sit out on my patio and read a book, sew something, do an art of craft project, go for a walk in the park with a friend, read a story with a child!! (reason for this goal is that I often feel like I go for days just doing responsibilities and I want this to be different!)
9. Enjoy the summer weather...get outside for a minimum of 1 hour per day!

Well those are my physical and emotional health goals for the summer!! I am excited to start on this new season and to challenge myself to stay the course to a healthier me!! My summer will be filled with a family reunion, camping and biking trip to the Oregon coast, family barbecues to celebrate both of my dd's (one is graduating and one is engaged to be married) and I am so looking forward to warmer weather and days to hike and bike in the great out of doors!! What about you sparkbuddies? Are you ready for a summer full of healthy choices?? What's on your Healthy Bucket list?? Lets make the next season in our lives count!!! We can do it!!

Barb, I am so proud of your efforts to get this all organized in your thoughts and then down on paper...I see and hear every one of then straight from your heart! Now explain the core strengthening exercises for me if you would ...maybe I will ask this in our team format... I love the way you have it all lined out - now where are you posting this in your home/life so it gets accomplished and accounted??

It takes focus to have a list like this! But, I think you can do it. We have to have goals to aim high!

Good luck. I'm stealing a few of your ideas.

Great to get it all down like that so you can refer back to it and see your progress. Still, that much at once sounds a little overwhelming to me personally, but I'm sure my bucket is just as full if I'll take a look at it. Good luck and I'm sure you'll have some great memories to treasure when this Summer passes into Autumn.

Thanks for sharing.

New Season Ahead!!!

Sunday, June 10, 2012

I have had a whirlwind of a June and it is only the 9th!! My older DD got engaged in May and her fiancee move here on the 21st. She is an artist and so is her fiancee so they had a Art opening on the 1st of June which was their 1st art show together and also the 1st time for many to meet her fiancee! It was a wonderful evening filled with their gorgeous art, family and friends, marshmallow roasting and delicious snacks. One dear friend even made them a keg of Rhubarb beer in honor of their opening. This is all happening at the same time as my younger DD is graduating both from high school and a local college with her 2 year degree and registering and making plans to attend a University in the fall. Graduation from high school followed by 2 more weeks of finals and then graduation ceremonies at college will happen on the 15th. We are also planning a family reunion in another state and working on packing plans to travel to this event. Throw in a couple of birthdays, Fathers day, doctor and dental appointments and our month was full before we started!!
Summer is on the way!! Any one want to imagine how we will add wedding planning in to all of this? My youngest DD will be leaving and making us empty nest parents in the fall and my DH did not even give me a moment to think about getting emotional. He had me smiling when he started talking about all the things we will do together...hiking, camping trips and candle light dinners all just for two. Life is such a whirlwind right now but I realize how blessed I am!! A loving husband, 2 beautiful daughters and a soon to be son in law... Gonna enjoy the ride with a few naps thrown in along the way!!
That's what is happening in my life and I am committed to staying healthy too!!! Thankful for spark buddies and the accountability that I have found here!! Have great June!! Smiles Barb

What Motivates YOU???

Thursday, May 17, 2012

I read an article this morning about the things that motivate us and how to use them to our benefit!! That got me thinking...what keeps us going and what motivates us on this stay heatlhy climb. I have always pictured this path I am on as "THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED!" and my self as a warrior. Each day I have choices to make and I chose Health, exercise, drinking my water and coming here to spark and meeting with you sparkbuddies. I choose to make these part of my everyday priorities. I read today that self talk...what I tell me each day...really matters. That got me thinking....
I wonder what my sparkbuddies tell themselves every day to keep going on their individual healthy paths! So that is the reason for this blog...
Could you please share with me your motto or a motivational quote or saying and verse that keeps you doing what you do?
My favorites right now....
"Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one less traveled by and that has made all of the difference."
" If you want something you have never must do something you have never done!"
"Just do it!!"
"If you think you can or you think you can' are probably right!"
"Dig deep down inside and you will find it...the strength for one more minute of exercise, the strength to not eat that cookie, the strength to become what you dream! You can do it!!"
Hugs to each of you as you step forward and seize today for you and your health!!

It is horrible to say, but I REALLY do want to look better!! I of course want all the great things that come along with it.
My motivation - which has been lacking for a LONG time, is what I feel like after I have done a workout. It really does feel good!
So I think I'm going to go with the phrase - "JUST DO IT!!!" - ( yes screaming!!!!)

Motivation??? I couldn;t tie my own shoes this week!!! Both the body stifness and the few extra pounds that are all around the middle [yup, stress weight!]

Positive thoughts ...
God would like a healthy temple for his spirit to dwell in.
Husband needs a healthy helpmate
I want to move and feel healthy - looks are NOT a motivation for me - just ability to move and do.

On good days it's "Just do it".
On so-so days, it's "I think I can, I think I can..."
And I keep on checking SP of course, fellow sparkers are a great support and inspiration :-)
Have a good day emoticon

I love "try? There is no try! There's only do!" To me try is another way to say not gonna do it! I'm motivated to be healthy so I'll be around a long time for my DD and be able to do whatever I want to do without lugging around a heavy body.

My best motivation comes from a community of people who maintain a positive attitude as best they can -- even amidst life's chaos. Life is so much better a choice we can make over the hazards that come with sloppy living. May kindness prevail. (Easier said than done.)

Most recently, a friend once told me, she doesn't allow other people's dirty feet to track through her mind. I see this as meaning she forgives readily and doesn'tallow herself to be easily offended.
