Just a quick blog to send you each a wish for a wonderful May!!
It is May 1st today and I see sunshine, flowers blooming and beautiful spring green leaves on all the trees. Spring is such a season of renewal and newness and gives me hope for the same to happen inside of me!! Won't you join with me today and work on renewing our commitment to our health!!

    Well Happy May day to you Barb, but it's cold here and I have the heater going and pretty hard to get enthused about Winter coming.

When you're in sunshine, I'm in shade and vice versa. That's the way of it when we are 1/2 a world apart.

Happy April de-stress month to you!!

Hi Sparkbuddies!
Did you know that April is the month devoted to de-stressing our lives?? I didn't until today! I was wondering what ways you all use to relax and give yourself some de-stress time in this busy world we live in!! Thought I'd list what I do for you all and hope to get some new ideas to add...enjoy my list and please share your ideas with me!!
- I take some time each day just for me and do some of the following...
take a bubble bath
ride my exercise bike
read a book
sit out on my patio (if it is warm) or in a comfy chair and put my feet up for a while
squeeze my stress balls and do some deep breathing exercises for 10 - 15 minutes
listen to some relaxing music
listen to some fun music and dance around the house or sing along
go for a relaxing walk around the neighborhood or on a local trail
have tea and visit with a friend in person or over the phone
be creative
do an art or craft project
go wandering through a bookstore, craft store or nick nack store just for fun
make a new gluten free recipe and share with a friend or my family
dig in the dirt, plant a flower, pull some weeds
go for a walk along the beach or lake side

So many things in life to do and see and so little time not filled up with responsibilities and commitments in the life we lead. We need to take time to take care of our spirits, give ourselves time to dream and wander and enjoy. If I could send each of my sparkbuddies a sparkgoodie this month it would be a gift of this kind of time.

    I didn't know this about April either! I can use some de-stressing LOL! Yesterday I sat outside and read for about a half hour. I'm trying to get outside to get some vitamin D a few times a week. It's really important to take time for ourselves, something us mothers tend not to do!

    I think (and know) taking some time for yourself is very important in your life, would it be only 10 minutes per day. I really enjoy taking bubble baths for half an hour while listening to relaxing music. I also love reading a book while sitting on my comfy chair right next to my huge window - it gets a lot of sun in the morning and it feels so relaxing! When I'm really stressed out I like to take a walk with music and enjoy the scenery, look at the pretty houses or just enjoy nature in a park. The worst thing to do when you're stressed is to constantly think and talk about your source of stress. I set it aside to deal with it later when I'm relaxed!

1/2 a pound at a time!!!

I so have to write a short blog today to note that my body has finally stabilized from all of it's immune crazyness of the last few months and I am finally seeing the scale move. I am so thankful that I lost 1/2 a pound 2 weeks ago, stayed stable at weigh in 1 week ago and lost another 1/2 a pound this week. I am hopeful that this is a sign that I am finally on a low enough dose of steroids that my body will not think it is starving and hold on to weight no matter how hard I work! So thankful!! For those who do not know I lost 35 lbs with sparkpeople in my 1st year and then my immune system went crazy and though I did not gain the weight back I have spent the last 5 1/2 months gaining and losing the same 2 to 3 pounds over and over again!! Frustrating!! I am stubborn though and refuse to let Prednisone and autoimmune issues be in charge of my health!!! I have stayed committed to my goals and just keep telling myself to be a Nike lady and JUST DO IT!! I believe this has helped me to not gain the weight back that is so easy with oral steroids.
Think it is important that just as we note our successes with Sparkpeople we need to also share our struggles. We all have difficulties along this get healthy road and to make this a total life style change we have to be able to keep going when our hard work does not show on the scale. I guess I am just preparing for the time when I will have reached my goal weight and have to maintain and I know from the last few months that I will be able to do it!!! This journey is so much about attitude and requires courage and willingness to persevere through many seasons.
Hope you are doing well on your journey to a better you and that my sharing of my struggles as well as my triumphs will help you to feel not so alone on your own personal journey!!! Right now I am celebrating 1/2 a pound at a time and my commitment to the new lifestyle no matter what!!

You have such a wonderful attitude towards this weight loss journey and the go to, to get it done.     The steroids can be a big hurtle. I've been on them way too long now, but we can loose weight on steroids! You're doing so great! This is an encouraging blog...keeps me wanting to fight!

Just had to blog and let you all know what is happening out my front window...SNOW! It is very rare in the Pacific Northwest to have snow in March. It so beautiful and strange to be sitting in my living room and looking out at a winter snow scene!! I had cocoa and toast for breakfast just because that's what snow means you have for breakfast!!! Off I go to exercise on my bike in the comfort of my home but what a view!!! Have a great day sparkbuddies and hope you all enjoy the weather in your neck of the woods!!!

    Wow Barb. I'm in the SF Bay Area, near Napa Valley and we're having rain all week. It's supposed to snow on the surrounding mountains later this week, but not outside my front door. Enjoy the view with your toast and hot cocoa. WhooHoo on riding the bike!

    We had an inch of snow here in Astoria. We've lived here for over 30 years and this is the second time we've had snow in March. The first time was 13 days ago on the 1st of March. The daffodils don't like it. Wonderfully strange weather of the Oregon Coast! Lots of sunshine this afternoon..

Hi Sparkbuddies!!! Just a note to let you know that after a few weeks of auto immune eye issues and need for high dose prednisone my eyes are feeling ever so much better today and I am starting to wean off of the higher prednisone dose. I have had some emotional turmoil during this time and been both fearful and frustrated that I have had to go through this again. I have been on the road to recovery from a major season of auto immune issues for the last year and a half resulting in the loss of 35 pounds and do not want to gain them back again. Prednisone is an amazing medication and I am very thankful for it's effectiveness for me but the side effect of weight gain is not very fun!! I am thankful that I am feeling better and ready to start back on my exercise bike journey and hope to see some weight loss show up on my friendly scale as we enter the spring and summer seasons!!! The next month will tell if my immune system can settle back down and if I can return to "normal" lifestyle again...pray with me that I can be patient all while setting and working on small steps forward!! Thanks to each of you have encouraged and supported me during this not to fun season!!

    So sorry that you've had such issues the past month but glad that things are returning to normal. Hopefully the Spring 5% will be just what you need to help you with the small steps to make some progress in the right direction!

    Steroids also make your feeling go all over the place. I have been on them for over 11 years and am working to try to get off of them but my lupus keeps acting up and so far I have only been able to get down to 5 mg a day.
