I am writing to let you all know that I am experiencing some major health problems that make me not able to be on the computer as much. I have multiple organ autoimmune issues that have been relatively under control for the last year and a half and have made it possible for me to be very active with sparkpeople. The last 2 weeks have been not fun for me and the part of my immune system that attacks my eyes is very active right now. This has resulted in eye pain, swelling, vision difficulty and rashes around my eyes. I am currently under treatment but being on the computer, reading and doing eye use activities needs to be limited for the present!
Wanted to let each of you know that I plan to continue to log my food, exercise as able and check in with my sparkfriends on my teams when my eyes allow but the rest of my spark activities...(virtual bike ride blog, long message posts etc.) are on hold for now. I am hoping that by cutting back on any eye activities my eyes will heal faster and I will feel better soon!!!
Keep the spark going and know that I will keep my commitments to a healthier you and me as I continue to spark but in a limited fashion for right now!! Thanks for you support and friendship and encouragement. Smiles Barb
Welcome to day 7 of my 7 day challenge to blog everyday for a week....
What I have learned this week-
1. Blogging for 7 days in a row was fun and taught me that I have more to say than I thought about my life!
2. Sometimes snow storms that start out beautiful and fluffy can turn in to snowmageddon events...even in the mild pacific northwest.
3. Ice rain and freezing weather often results in trees falling on power lines and knocking out power to whole communities.
4. I am thankful for a gas stove in my rec room to keep my home warm when the power goes out and cooking on top of this may take a little bit of time but hot tea and soup tastes good when it is freezing outside.
5. One of the most valuable parts of sparkpeople are the people...so thankful for my sparkfriendships I have made here that continue to bless and motivate me to keep coming back, setting goals and keeping my commitment to myself to get healthy.
6. I am dependent on power and the internet and really miss it when it is unavailable to me!
7. Exercising with a beautiful view of snow, ice, children building snowmen, atv's and sleds gong by made the time fly by and also warmed me up on a very cold day!
8. Completing a challenge continues to make me feel good and seeing 7 blogs in a row on my sparkpage is a woohoo moment for me!!!
I do not think I am a blog a day kind of girl and prefer journalling most of my thoughts in private on a daily basis but this challenge was good for me and I learned a lot this week both from journalling and surviving a very big snow storm. I realize that it is important to be prepared for unexpected events and will be making a new emergency preparedness plan for our family taking in to consideration all that I learned as we went through the last few days.
It is frozen...the whole world outside my front window is one big icicle. Freezing rain on top of 8 inches of snow has made my front yard turn into a skating pond and my cherry tree has branches that appear to made totally out of ice. The sounds of ice are loud and snap, crackle and pop are not coming just from my cereal bowl! The power at my house has been out most of the day from ice caused power failures and so hear I am sparking in the evening and thankful for light, power and internet that is working again. The joy and excitement I felt when this snow storm began was replaced by amazement at the beautiful scene of a winter wonderland and replaced again by an overwhelming sense of the power of cold and ice. Our area of the country has been shut down by this event that my daughter has taken to calling snowmageddon! We live on a hill and the pacific northwest trees all around us are tiring of the weight of ice and snow and snapping branches are crashing down on streets, buildings and cars. Going anywhere is laborious and so we are staying snuggled up in our warm home and watching the view out our window. It has begun to snow again this evening and soft flakes are beginning to cover up the layer of ice again...It is beautiful but treacherous for walking or driving anywhere. So I will go on with the day and though this event will soon be a distant memory I will not soon forget this simple and beautiful snow fall or it's icy conclusion. Staying warm and still smiling....Barb
I am on day 5 of blogging and am enjoying reading all the blogs from my fellow team mates who are also taking on this challenge. I have been challenged in recent blogs to think about how much effort I put in to my exercise and to ask myself if I am sweaty when I am finished. I have been encouraged to choose a word for 2012 that will remind me what is most important to me on this journey. I have laughed at jokes, smiled at photos and read some wonderful quotes from famous individuals. I have learned what my sparkbuddies are eating, what concerns them, what it is like to walk a day in their shoes. I have heard about their most resent clothing purchase and how they are enjoying their new exercise video. It is amazing what we share when we write blogs and how sharing our lives effects the other sparkpeople that we have invited in to our world. I realized today that some of the most important things I have learned on sparkpeople come from this type of sharing. I wanted to thank each of you for sharing with me and being open to letting me glimpse your world, both your victories and challenges as well as the day to day thoughts you think and the little random parts of your lives you share in blog form. It is this so daily walk on spark that we share that makes all the difference for me in keeping going....we all come here with one dream...to find the healthy us hidden somewhere "down under" and as we walk our own individual paths we are blessed....blessed with friendships, encouragement and words written in blog form that share a special insight that makes all the difference!!! I am thankful today for each of you and realize that it is your daily willingness to come here and keep your commitments to a healthier you that has made me able to keep my commitment to come here and become a healthier me....Spark people after all is really all about the PEOPLE...Thanks for being one of my sparkfriends and a special person on my journey!!
Hey I am half way through the 7 day blog challenge and I haven't run out of stuff to say!!! Today was another snowy day at my house and my family was home... so after exercising and taking some time just for me I baked cookies! They are good for us too...peanut butter and oatmeal and macadamia nuts and chocolate chips...oh my! The house smells marvelous. Snow also has made me hungry for winter comfort foods so stew is cooking on my stove top for dinner and is filled with lots of yummy veggies and the aroma of beef fills the air. In case you haven't figured it out I am sharing one of my passions...I love to cook!! Sparkpeople has helped me to find ways to continue to do this but with healthier cooking options. Important things I have taken to heart and added to my cooking plan over the last year that can be seen in today's menu plans are...increased fiber (oatmeal in the cookies), increased veggies (veggies are abundant in my stew tonight), increased fruit (lunch was an all fruit smoothie today with marionberries...also high in fiber and antioxidants), tracked every food item and plan to stay in my target calorie and nutrient range, increased protein and exercise (exercise started my day with some almonds to crunch and water is a priority (I am keeping a glass, mug or bottle of water with me wherever I go)!!! So I continue to get to do what I enjoy... cook and eat... but with new awareness of the fact that the choices I make each day matter to my health and the health of my family!!! Wish you all a wonderful day!!! Smiles Barb
