SNOW!!!

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Just had to blog and let you all know what is happening out my front window...SNOW! It is very rare in the Pacific Northwest to have snow in March. It so beautiful and strange to be sitting in my living room and looking out at a winter snow scene!! I had cocoa and toast for breakfast just because that's what snow means you have for breakfast!!! Off I go to exercise on my bike in the comfort of my home but what a view!!! Have a great day sparkbuddies and hope you all enjoy the weather in your neck of the woods!!!
Hugs and Smiles Barb

We are getting some more this morning - I don;t think it will stick here in the valley but the low hills are white and LOTS on the mountains surrounding us.

Wow Barb. I'm in the SF Bay Area, near Napa Valley and we're having rain all week. It's supposed to snow on the surrounding mountains later this week, but not outside my front door. Enjoy the view with your toast and hot cocoa. WhooHoo on riding the bike!

Sounds like a beautiful day for you! We also had a beautiful day but it was 72 degrees and sunny! Got to spend the afternoon outside with my girls, blowing bubbles, playing ball and using sidewalk chalk. What a wonderful day. Hope all is well and you are having a great week!     We had an inch of snow here in Astoria. We've lived here for over 30 years and this is the second time we've had snow in March. The first time was 13 days ago on the 1st of March. The daffodils don't like it. Wonderfully strange weather of the Oregon Coast! Lots of sunshine this afternoon..

Fresh snow is so beautiful. Cocoa is the best of the chocolates, so you're starting the day with lots of great food for the soul.

Eye improvement makes me smile!!!

Friday, March 09, 2012

Hi Sparkbuddies!!! Just a note to let you know that after a few weeks of auto immune eye issues and need for high dose prednisone my eyes are feeling ever so much better today and I am starting to wean off of the higher prednisone dose. I have had some emotional turmoil during this time and been both fearful and frustrated that I have had to go through this again. I have been on the road to recovery from a major season of auto immune issues for the last year and a half resulting in the loss of 35 pounds and do not want to gain them back again. Prednisone is an amazing medication and I am very thankful for it's effectiveness for me but the side effect of weight gain is not very fun!! I am thankful that I am feeling better and ready to start back on my exercise bike journey and hope to see some weight loss show up on my friendly scale as we enter the spring and summer seasons!!! The next month will tell if my immune system can settle back down and if I can return to "normal" lifestyle again...pray with me that I can be patient all while setting and working on small steps forward!! Thanks to each of you have encouraged and supported me during this not to fun season!!
Keep Sparking!!! Smiles and Hugs Barb emoticon

So thankful for improvement!!! Especially clicked with me when you said you would be able to get back on your exercise bike and on your virtual trip. Praise God from whom all blessings flow - the medications and the improvement and now seeing light at the end of this tunnel. I am smiling with you!!

Steroids also make your feeling go all over the place. I have been on them for over 11 years and am working to try to get off of them but my lupus keeps acting up and so far I have only been able to get down to 5 mg a day.

Eye and Healthy Issue Update

Thursday, February 16, 2012

Hi Sparkbuddies...
I am writing to let you all know that I am experiencing some major health problems that make me not able to be on the computer as much. I have multiple organ autoimmune issues that have been relatively under control for the last year and a half and have made it possible for me to be very active with sparkpeople. The last 2 weeks have been not fun for me and the part of my immune system that attacks my eyes is very active right now. This has resulted in eye pain, swelling, vision difficulty and rashes around my eyes. I am currently under treatment but being on the computer, reading and doing eye use activities needs to be limited for the present!
Wanted to let each of you know that I plan to continue to log my food, exercise as able and check in with my sparkfriends on my teams when my eyes allow but the rest of my spark activities...(virtual bike ride blog, long message posts etc.) are on hold for now. I am hoping that by cutting back on any eye activities my eyes will heal faster and I will feel better soon!!!
Keep the spark going and know that I will keep my commitments to a healthier you and me as I continue to spark but in a limited fashion for right now!! Thanks for you support and friendship and encouragement. Smiles Barb

Continuing to pray for healing . Also use the tools of your computer to make the font as large as possible for less eye strain. Also play a little with color and brightness of screen to see if any of those things will help.

Father God, please touch the eyes of this dear friend with healing and comfortableness. We love her and want only the very best for her.

Challenge: Blog a day for 7 days...Day 7

Friday, January 20, 2012

Welcome to day 7 of my 7 day challenge to blog everyday for a week....

What I have learned this week-
1. Blogging for 7 days in a row was fun and taught me that I have more to say than I thought about my life!
2. Sometimes snow storms that start out beautiful and fluffy can turn in to snowmageddon events...even in the mild pacific northwest.
3. Ice rain and freezing weather often results in trees falling on power lines and knocking out power to whole communities.
4. I am thankful for a gas stove in my rec room to keep my home warm when the power goes out and cooking on top of this may take a little bit of time but hot tea and soup tastes good when it is freezing outside.
5. One of the most valuable parts of sparkpeople are the people...so thankful for my sparkfriendships I have made here that continue to bless and motivate me to keep coming back, setting goals and keeping my commitment to myself to get healthy.
6. I am dependent on power and the internet and really miss it when it is unavailable to me!
7. Exercising with a beautiful view of snow, ice, children building snowmen, atv's and sleds gong by made the time fly by and also warmed me up on a very cold day!
8. Completing a challenge continues to make me feel good and seeing 7 blogs in a row on my sparkpage is a woohoo moment for me!!!

I do not think I am a blog a day kind of girl and prefer journalling most of my thoughts in private on a daily basis but this challenge was good for me and I learned a lot this week both from journalling and surviving a very big snow storm. I realize that it is important to be prepared for unexpected events and will be making a new emergency preparedness plan for our family taking in to consideration all that I learned as we went through the last few days.

Take care sparkbuddies....Hugs Barb

Thanks for letting us into your world, my dear! It's great to see who our team mates are and some of the life they are coping with. We all come with unique journeys, and while I'm glad this seven day challenge is done, I will certainly miss the added insight this challenge has provided us. Have a great final week keeping the salt shakers off the table and meeting your 5% challenges. Hug, hug!

Challenge: Blog a day for 7 days...Day 6

Thursday, January 19, 2012

It is frozen...the whole world outside my front window is one big icicle. Freezing rain on top of 8 inches of snow has made my front yard turn into a skating pond and my cherry tree has branches that appear to made totally out of ice. The sounds of ice are loud and snap, crackle and pop are not coming just from my cereal bowl! The power at my house has been out most of the day from ice caused power failures and so hear I am sparking in the evening and thankful for light, power and internet that is working again. The joy and excitement I felt when this snow storm began was replaced by amazement at the beautiful scene of a winter wonderland and replaced again by an overwhelming sense of the power of cold and ice. Our area of the country has been shut down by this event that my daughter has taken to calling snowmageddon! We live on a hill and the pacific northwest trees all around us are tiring of the weight of ice and snow and snapping branches are crashing down on streets, buildings and cars. Going anywhere is laborious and so we are staying snuggled up in our warm home and watching the view out our window. It has begun to snow again this evening and soft flakes are beginning to cover up the layer of ice again...It is beautiful but treacherous for walking or driving anywhere. So I will go on with the day and though this event will soon be a distant memory I will not soon forget this simple and beautiful snow fall or it's icy conclusion. Staying warm and still smiling....Barb
