Wow! I haven't really given that much thought to the year I've been in SP. I've lost over 30 lbs (although my goal was only a loss of 13 lbs), I've paid off all but one debt (which I think I can have paid off by next spring), and I have a new future to look forward to once my debts are paid off. I talk about SP all the time with people and hope to inspire others to join.

Glad I have Sparkbuddies on my Team!!!

Thursday, September 22, 2011

Today I read an article on sparkpeople that made me smile and had to pass it on! Mike reminded me in this article that I keep on keeping on and succeeding with sparkpeople because of you...my sparkbuddies, my support group, my dear friends! Wanted to thank each of you for what you do each day to motivate me to pursue a better Barb!! She keeps peeking out from under all this padding one day at a time and you keep helping me to peel off the added pounds and put on a new and improved version of me!!
The article is:

"Weight Loss can be a Team Effort
Build Your Own Support System"
-- By Mike Kramer, Staff Writer
http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/moti
vation_articles.asp?id=154

It tells us to realize the important role that sparkfriends play on this get healthy journey....
The list is as follows:

"Motivator someone good at picking you up when you fall down and re-energizing you
Positive Thinker someone good at always looking at the bright side
Goal Guardian someone good at keeping you focused on your goal and on track
Exercise Buddy someone good at making workout time fun and social
Listener someone good at being an outlet when you need to vent or talk about problems
Informer someone good at circulating health and fitness info, ideas and opportunities
The Bizarre One someone good at finding fun, interesting and crazy ways to stay active "

So loved the truth I read here. Do you see yourself fulfilling these roles as you interact with your spark friends, team mates and buddies? Do you see others meeting these needs in your days? I know that I see this truth in my daily spark time and want to thank sparkpeople for providing a remarkable site where all of this motivation and encouragement takes place. I also want to thank each of you spark buddies for filling these roles in my daily spark walk! So thankful for each of you!
Wishing you all a sparktacular day!!! Hugs Barb

5% Challenge #3 to do!!

Monday, September 19, 2011

As I begin the 5% challenge this next weekend on the Teddy Bear team I am excited to complete the warm up exercises assigned. This is #3: Today's assignment is to list all the reasons you want to lose weight. What do you want to change? How do you want to look? How do you want to feel? What things will you be able to do in the future with a slimmer healthier body? And list all the OTHER things that you want to change!

I am losing weight so that I will be a healthier Barb. I suffered multiple organ Auto immune failure 4 years ago and made a commitment to myself last fall that I would begin the process of taking my life back from illness and Prednisone! I want to lose weight to get rid of the tummy, feel cute and curvy, fit in a little black dress and have what I would call a Betty Boop Bikini Body! I know that as I have lost weight over the last 11 months that I have lowered my blood pressure, found that I have more energy, enjoy bike riding, short hikes and walks on the beach! As I continue on my 2nd year at sparkpeople I see my goal weight as possible and look forward to more hiking, biking and being active with my family. I would love to be able to wear a bikini and go snorkling in Hawaii with my husband in the future! The more I stay committed to a healthy lifestyle the stronger I become and the more thankful I am for sparkpeople and the seasons of life ahead! I look forward to the 5% challenge at this time of sparkpeople as a motivation to work on a team to lose weight and enjoy meeting new friends and enjoying the 2nd half of my weight loss journey with them. It's great to be a Teddy Bear!! Let's go team!! Smiles Barb

5% Fall Challenge!

Friday, September 16, 2011

I am starting the 5% Fall Challenge on the 24th of September. This is a new group for me and I am excited to start on this new motivating team and get my body and my scale moving! Going to keep up my commitment to 6 day a week aerobics, 3 day a week weights and 5 day a week core body exercising! Working on losing 1 pound a week as I continue to follow the spark diet and keep up the 8 glasses of water a day and increase my potassium and fiber with more fruits and vegetables! Will add in some new challenges as my team competes together to meet our goals. Looking forward to an awesome fall and slowly seeing my bikini body become a reality one season at a time! Smiles Barb

I monitor seven nutrients regularly (calories, fat, protein, carbs, calcium, sodium and fiber). I have noticed I have a hard time getting in my minimum of potassium so this may have to be a new add sometime soon. I've eaten so many black and regular chickpeas recently, I've exceeded my fiber most of this week, but drink lots of water to compensate. Cheers to a great 5% challenge!

Almost to 1 year at Sparkpeople!

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Next week my daughter will start her 2nd year at college. This 2nd year for her is a gauge for me. I decided last year on her 1st day of college that since I was no longer homeschooling that I would take some time to make a better more healthier me happen!
I have spent to last 11 1/2 months doing just that. I have last 35 pounds, have lowered my blood pressure and have more energy to do the things I love. I recently went with my family on a 2 week camping trip to the ocean and was able to go bike riding and hiking and wave jumping! I felt much cuter in my skort and short outfits and enjoyed vacation while still sparking my calories! Though I did gain 4 pounds (added them to the tracker today!) and will be working to lose them all over again I still feel good about the last year of goal completion and thankful for the support and encouragement of sparkpeople and my spark teams and friends!!

As I look to the beginning of year 2 with sparkpeople in October I am excited and motivated to lose the next 30 to 35 pounds and find that just right goal weight this year. I am in the middle of an amazing get healthy journey and know that I will succeed at reaching my goal weight and living this new healthy lifestyle for the long-term!!!
To all of my sparkbuddies...I wish to recommit to you that I will be walking on this spark journey with you for one more year and celebrating our successes and encouraging you as we handle each new struggle together as well!
Let's get sparking and working on our future bikini bodies together.
emoticon Hugs Barb
