First stops on my virtual bike tour!!

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

Hi Sparkfriends!!! I am heading out on my virtual bike tour today and so excited!! I will soon be posting a list of all of my sparkbuddies I am visiting...close to 25 of you have signed up to host me...Hugs and Smiles!!! Today though I am getting started and heading north of my home to visit Cannie50 in Bellingham Washington (98 miles) . I will be stopping in Mt Vernon, Washington (70 miles) to enjoy a dinner of gluten free fish and chips at one of my favorite restaurants, "Trumpeter Public House" and crashing on a friends couch!! Wednesday Morning I will head to Cannie's and meet her for a morning smoothie or coffee at Woods Coffee House in Boulevard Park where we will enjoy a beautiful morning water view! I plan to spend a couple of days with Cannie and enjoy a 50 mile bike tour around the area. She says I should stop for the best salad lunch at Avenue Bread and I have been told I can get a gluten free sandwich at Avellino Bakery and Gluten Free Pizza at Jeckyl and Hyde Deli! I will be stopping at Western, the local University to check out the campus for my daughter and going to stop in a downtown bookstore to get a book to put in my backpack and read along the way on my journey!!! Cannie says that Bellingham is a beautiful city and has lots of fun shops and beautiful views so I will be having a wonderful visit!
Miles for this trip 70 + 28 + 50 = 148 miles
Days for this trip = 2 days for travel and 2 days to just visit!!!

On Saturday Morning I will be heading to Wenatchee where I will be meeting my sparkfriend Linda 49! It is 135 miles to Wenatchee, Washington! Linda and I will then head to visit the Grand Coolee Dam and take a 138 mile trip together to visit Spokane, Washington. We will be visiting her daughter and attending church with her on Sunday as well as going shopping in Wenatchee Next we will head off to take a tour of the Grand Coolee Dam (48 miles away) and stay at the Gold House Bed and Breakfast Inn with breathtaking views of the Dam! We will be going on some hikes and walking across the top of the dam to get in some chatting and exercise time!!! If you google Grandcooleedam.com you can see where we will be!! On Wednesday we will then head to Spokane which is about 90 more miles and stay with friends! We will enjoy a ride on the Looff Carrousel and take an aerial view on the sky ride in River Front Park where we will see Spokane Falls from the air. We will also get our exercise walking along Centennial Trail! Friday night dinner will be fun at Spaghetti Factory where we will indulge ourselves with their gluten free Pasta! We will enjoy a relaxing weekend in Spokane visiting and seeing the sights and I will say good by to Linda as she heads home and I head off into week 3 of my virtual bike tour!!! I will update you then!!! Can you say adventure???

Mileage:
70 miles to Mount Vernon, 28 miles to Bellingham, 50 miles of bike tour around Bellingham, 135 miles to Wenatchee, 48 miles to the Grand Coolee Dam, 90 miles to Spokane, 25 miles of biking in Spokane!
Total Miles: 446 miles ( Earned in 1st week of bike riding!!! 10/23 - 10/30)
Days to earn these miles at 80 minutes per day on my exercise bike = 80 miles I can travel on my virtual tour. I will earn 480 miles per week and take some time to visit with my sparkfriends along the way so sometimes I will be visiting while I am riding to earn miles for the next part of my journey. You can Google all of the places that I am visiting along with me and let me know what you think of my journey!!

I think it will be fun to take you all on my journey and will try to post weekly and let you know how I am doing.
Hugs and Smiles to you all!!! Barb emoticon emoticon

What an adventure, indeed! Can hardly wait to see you in my area. I will gladly make you a rice noodle pho (beef, chicken, or vegetarian). I also make a wonderful yogurt curry on rice that goes well with either steamed broccoli, cauliflower, and/or cashews. Healthy eating to go with all these healthy fitness minutes.

My virtual bike ride to visit you my friend!!!

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
I have decided with inspiration from a sparkfriend that riding my exercise bike everyday results in amazing changes to my body but I could really be more inspired if my bike could take me somewhere. I would like to start logging my miles with virtual destinations in mind. Where am I going?...well to visit all of my sparkfriends!! I will be starting from good old Washington State in the USA and heading out as soon as you let me know my destination!! I am going to get out a map and log my miles to virtually visit my sparkbuddies. One minute of exercise time will equal one mile closer to my destinations around the world! If you would like to be on my virtual sparkfriend tour simply share with me where you live in this old sparkworld of ours and I will begin my journey and travel from place to place. I will let you know when I arrive at your city and then you can tell me what I should visit while I am there and I will do a virtual tour with my Web browser and see amazing places all over the world. I will have to pretend my bike has wings when I head to Australia or China but I am up for the adventure!!! Please share with me on my blog if you would be willing to "host" me on my virtual tour...I am excited to begin! Smiles Barb

You are a wonder-woman! How absolutely clever of you and the Sparkfriend who inspired you to come up with a virtual bike tour. I could do that, especially in the hottest months of summer here in Florida when it's just too hot to want to do anything. emoticon for the great idea.

If your virtual travels take you this far south, look up Tampa Bay. We have a great performing arts center in Tampa, Salvador Dali museum in St Petersburg, Spring Bayou in Tarpon Springs where the huge Greek Orthodox community turns out en masse to watch young boys dive into the bayou on Epiphany, Jan 6 when Fla waters are not so bathtub-like, to retrieve a cross thrown in by the whatever-you-call-the-most-importan
t priest. Winner gets a blessing for the year. Or take in the Highland Games in the spring in Dunedin, a community with Scottish roots--lots of kilts and bagpipes, even the school bands.

SO inspiring, Barb! I, too, have reached a "breakthrough point" in healthy living with SP that I never dreamed possible..... and only 3 months in.... but here for a lifetime! WOOHOO!
I'm in central New Hampshire in the Lakes Region/White Mountains and I know you would love to see this part of "God's Country"! AMAZINGLY beautiful and I am grateful every day for living here.
I'm thinking about what kind of virtual travels I can take on my "real bike" (in our short summers!), and the gym elliptical and treadmill and rowing machine (I LOVE variety in my workouts..... who knew?!). Keeping track of the miles I'm walking/riding etc hasn't been put in the goals quite yet, but now I'm inspired!

THANK YOU, sister! emoticon

Wow! I haven't really given that much thought to the year I've been in SP. I've lost over 30 lbs (although my goal was only a loss of 13 lbs), I've paid off all but one debt (which I think I can have paid off by next spring), and I have a new future to look forward to once my debts are paid off. I talk about SP all the time with people and hope to inspire others to join.

Glad I have Sparkbuddies on my Team!!!

Thursday, September 22, 2011

Today I read an article on sparkpeople that made me smile and had to pass it on! Mike reminded me in this article that I keep on keeping on and succeeding with sparkpeople because of you...my sparkbuddies, my support group, my dear friends! Wanted to thank each of you for what you do each day to motivate me to pursue a better Barb!! She keeps peeking out from under all this padding one day at a time and you keep helping me to peel off the added pounds and put on a new and improved version of me!!
The article is:

"Weight Loss can be a Team Effort
Build Your Own Support System"

It tells us to realize the important role that sparkfriends play on this get healthy journey....
The list is as follows:

"Motivator someone good at picking you up when you fall down and re-energizing you
Positive Thinker someone good at always looking at the bright side
Goal Guardian someone good at keeping you focused on your goal and on track
Exercise Buddy someone good at making workout time fun and social
Listener someone good at being an outlet when you need to vent or talk about problems
Informer someone good at circulating health and fitness info, ideas and opportunities
The Bizarre One someone good at finding fun, interesting and crazy ways to stay active "

So loved the truth I read here. Do you see yourself fulfilling these roles as you interact with your spark friends, team mates and buddies? Do you see others meeting these needs in your days? I know that I see this truth in my daily spark time and want to thank sparkpeople for providing a remarkable site where all of this motivation and encouragement takes place. I also want to thank each of you spark buddies for filling these roles in my daily spark walk! So thankful for each of you!
Wishing you all a sparktacular day!!! Hugs Barb

Although I love the truth in that piece and hope I am some of those to others, I saw *you* when I read that post. You're a wonderful example of how to be a great support to others. Thank you for being here and inspiring others. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thanks Barb for sharing this and also putting a smile on my face when I read your comment on my blog.

You do play an important part in my healthy lifestyle journey and I couldn't of asked for a better spark buddy, role model, and friend.

You have also inspired me on to be a better me. Keep reaching for the stars and shoot for the moon.

5% Challenge #3 to do!!

Monday, September 19, 2011

As I begin the 5% challenge this next weekend on the Teddy Bear team I am excited to complete the warm up exercises assigned. This is #3: Today's assignment is to list all the reasons you want to lose weight. What do you want to change? How do you want to look? How do you want to feel? What things will you be able to do in the future with a slimmer healthier body? And list all the OTHER things that you want to change!

I am losing weight so that I will be a healthier Barb. I suffered multiple organ Auto immune failure 4 years ago and made a commitment to myself last fall that I would begin the process of taking my life back from illness and Prednisone! I want to lose weight to get rid of the tummy, feel cute and curvy, fit in a little black dress and have what I would call a Betty Boop Bikini Body! I know that as I have lost weight over the last 11 months that I have lowered my blood pressure, found that I have more energy, enjoy bike riding, short hikes and walks on the beach! As I continue on my 2nd year at sparkpeople I see my goal weight as possible and look forward to more hiking, biking and being active with my family. I would love to be able to wear a bikini and go snorkling in Hawaii with my husband in the future! The more I stay committed to a healthy lifestyle the stronger I become and the more thankful I am for sparkpeople and the seasons of life ahead! I look forward to the 5% challenge at this time of sparkpeople as a motivation to work on a team to lose weight and enjoy meeting new friends and enjoying the 2nd half of my weight loss journey with them. It's great to be a Teddy Bear!! Let's go team!! Smiles Barb

I love the Betty Boop and Little-Black-Dress image! You've set great goals before you and I highly suspect you will ROCK this challenge with the rest of your team mates. Hawaii sounds like fun . . . this was one vacation our very own THETURTLEBEAR took her android phone and scale to . . . so you really don't have to wait until you're at goal to enjoy some terrfic travel plans.
