Healthy Blog Day #5: What can you improve upon?

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

"Two roads diverged in the woods and
I took the one less traveled by and
THAT has made all the difference!"

As I choose to make variety of exercise, increasing my fiber levels and decreasing my fat levels in my diet a priority this week I am also choosing to see this as a new commitment to change in these 3 areas of my health for a lifetime. Each day that I write this blog and stay on track with these changes, I find myself excited to see how they will effect my long term health and I also see that it is not as hard to change these as I thought. I believe that LONG TERM COMMITMENT is the best improvement I can make as it is often much easier to change behavior once I have something to motivate me in making it for a few days and get started!!
Thank you Teddy Bear Team and 5% challenge leaders for this assignment and also for your support and encouragement this week as we as a team seek to make healthy changes for the long run and for our health!!
What long term commitments to change can you make for your health today??
Have a great day sparkbuddies!!
Smiles Barb

Two wonderful thoughts, long term commitments and Thanks to our challenge leaders for this great assignment. It has really improved my thoughts about fitness and health even though all of the blogging is taking quite a toll on my work productivity. :-(

Commitment is the key to success. And keeping a long-range focus gets you over the minor setbacks. After the news yesterday that I'm a borderline diabetic (despite my great improvements), I certainly have a new (and stronger) commitment to make sure I eat healthy!

You are so right! This is more about long term commitment and less about short term gain. You can, and will, be successful!

Healthy Blog Day #4 How are you doing day by day with your goals?

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

On this day of the week blog journey I am to share how the day by day changes I am implementing are working. I am working to bring variety to my exercise routine, increase my fiber intake and decrease the amount of fats in my daily diet.
So far I think I am doing great on this daily journey. For the last 3 days I have added in intervals on my exercise bike, gone for 2 walks with my DH with one of them being at a local lake so a change of scenery was very encouraging too! I also have increased my fiber daily and by adding in smoothies, salads, soup with veggies and beans and purchased some new crackers that were higher in fiber too. I have stayed in range for my fat intake on my spark nutrition trackig as well. I am also doing well with these goals today!!
I am enjoying using this daily blog to keep me sharing as well as keeping me accountable to these needed health changes and I am hopeful that after one week these changes will become a permanent part of my healthy lifestyle!!!
How do you add in new things to your routine and make them become habits sparkbuddies??
Getting healthier one day at a time!!

Great! I don't change things up very frequently and this week of blogging takes an incredible amount of time and energy for someone with introvert tendencies.

Healthy Blog Day #3 What are you doing to encourage yourself and keep on track?

Monday, March 04, 2013

What are you doing to encourage yourself and keep on track?
On my journey to change up my exercise and add in more fiber while eating less fat I am taking one day at a time and making small changes. I love today's assignment because it gives me the opportunity to look at ways to encourage myself along the way.
Today I am going to give myself a spark goodie and a real goodie of a smoothie. I love smoothies and today's will have lots of fiber with raspberries, chocolate coconut ice cream and almond milk.
I will also be doing my exercise outside along the boardwalk at a local lake front park and walking with my DH. Promises to be a fun day that both encourages me and keeps me on track with meeting my new goals.
What are you doing to encourage yourself on your spark journey buddies?? Love to hear some of your plans!!

Very good! And yes, it's wise to make changes in fiber in small doses. I'm fortunate that I already have a love for water -- as water is important to a high-fiber diet.

Healthy Blog Question #2 = How are you going to make your new habit become a reality!!

Sunday, March 03, 2013

How are you going to make your new habit become a reality!!
My new habit goals are... I need to add in some change to my daily exercise routine as I seem to do the same things over and over. I also need to work on monitoring my fat and fiber intake and change them both so that on a daily basis they are in healthy levels
What I will do to make them happen...
I will add in intervals to my exercise bike routine, I will walk 2 days per week and I will add in my twister board exercise one day per week. I am also going to purchase an aerobics video and add that in to my routine.
I will add in fiber by adding in a smoothie made with fiber and raspberries, eating oatmeal for breakfast and adding in more fruit, veggies and salads to my daily meal times.
I am going to decrease my fat intake to stay within spark levels by writing down what I am planning to eat before each meal to double check that my choices are reasonable!!
I CAN DO IT!!! Smiles Barb

Healthy Blog Question #1 = What new habit you wish to develop?

Saturday, March 02, 2013

1) What new habit you wish to develop?
Hi Sparkbuddies this week in my Teddy Bear Team 5% challenge our assignment is to answer a series of questions one day at a time to facilitate changing our behavior. Today's assignment is to chose a new habit that I wish to begin or a old habit that i wish to change!!

So here goes:
I am currently needing to add in two major changes and so I am going to chose both of them. I need to add in some change to my daily exercise routine as I seem to do the same things over and over. I also need to work on monitoring my fat and fiber intake and change them both so that on a daily basis they are in healthy levels.

So sparkbuddies come back daily to my sparkpage and check out my blogs to see how I daily work on these new goals and work through them to facilitate their implementation!!
I would love some encouragement and ideas from you on how to do this as well!!

Have a great Saturday!!
Hugs Barb

    Great goals!
I start my day with a high fiber cereal and it helps me reach my daily fiber goal of 35-45 grams. I also buy low carb/high fiber tortillas and fiber one bars for snacks.

Changing your exercise program might be hard at first but then you'll feel so great once you get used to the new things and move on to something else. Exercise is a journey with many roads to choose from. Why stay on one road? emoticon

Both great goals. I'm happy to be well on the road to striving to attain these, as well. I'm amazed when I see people eating in nursing and assisted living facilities . . . I just don't see much fiber in what my Dad is provided for his meals. He has to supplement with pills. I'll be back to check on you. It's great to have some Spark friends who encourage us to new heights. Hug, hug -- Evelyn
