No Excuse Summer - Day 20

20 days in and I've done some form of exercise on 19 of them (I had to take a day off after whitewater rafting - my thighs were screaming!). The gym is going well; I'm starting to increase the amount on my weights, I can do 2 miles on the bike comfortably, and the elliptical is my new BFF. The best part is my boyfriend signed up for a half marathon in the fall, so now he's trying to eat better and exercise more as well (FINALLY!).

About 1 1/2 months before school starts again... goooooo momentum! emoticon

No Excuse Summer - Day 4

I've successfully made it to the gym! It was definitely strange at first, though that was all in my head. I half expected the people behind the counter to chastise me for being away for so long, but they didn't. No one gawked. It was like I had been going to the gym all along... even though I haven't been consistently since 2007.

2007. That's just crazy.

But there I was on the Elliptical, grooving to the evening news, 2 days in a row.

I even did weights yesterday! I'm fortunate to have a gym that takes the guesswork out of weight-training, so I did the full body circuit that includes leg presses, abdominal crunches, bicep curls, etc. I was a little concerned about the weights so I kept everything at its lowest setting and did just 2 sets of 10. That was yesterday and I'm happy to report that the cautious route paid off and I wasn't a cripple today! I plan to do the same weight circuit tomorrow before I make any changes to either the number of sets or the amount of weight I'm lifting.

So, 4 days in to my marathon summer:
I've walked about 9.5 miles
I've done 90 minutes on the Elliptical
I've done 11 machines at 2 sets of 10, lowest possible weight

I'm feeling good and ready for more!

No Excuse Summer - Day 1

Day 1 in a 2 month block of time that I'm dedicating toward my goals. No more excuses - school won't start back up until after labor day and my vacations have been planned with fitness in mind. I'm motivated - I started the day off right with a 4 mile walk around the neighborhood, water in hand. The support is there - friends and co-workers have been informed of my 2 month mission and I truly believe they'll join me at the gym now and again.

My fitness goals for the week:
Mon - 5 mile walk & Yoga
Tue - 30 min on Elliptical; weights circuit
Wed - 60 min on Elliptical
Thu - 30 min on Elliptical; weights circuit
Fri - 5 mile walk
Sat - Rafting (this will be the first time I've ever gone, so I hope including this in my fitness plan is realistic)
Sun - 4-5 mile walk (depending on how rafting goes)

    Are you sure you aren't overdoing it? That is a rather aggressive schedule if you are just starting.

I'm starting my 'summer program' tomorrow and I know that once the school year starts it will be nice to have gotten down a routine as well as taken a few pounds off!
rafting is a blast - enjoy!
