Checking In

Saturday, January 25, 2014

It's been quite a while since I've been on the site... Life took a turn for the depressing for a while over the summer, so I stopped doing pretty much everything. Fortunately, I have a hugely supportive husband (and a few adorable fuzzies - the dog has adjusted quite well and is currently taking stairs better than I am).
I also got a job in October, which has done wonders for my mental health (methinks I am not cut out for a life of sitting at home). It's also part of what prompted me to check out the site again, as one of my new work buddies is a member. (Howdy, INGBADEN!)
In other, also super awesome news, I am due to have a baby boy in June!
In slightly less awesome news, I may have been eating everything in sight without doing any exercise...
While I can't promise that I'm going to start using the site regularly again (the only things I'm currently consistent about are work and naps), I'm going to at least try to keep track of my water intake and my fitness activities... which means more water and more working out.
So here I go... again. :)

New Puppy Dog!

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

My husband and I adopted a new dog this weekend. He's a one-year-old Pomeranian who was kept in a crate in a closet by his previous owners. He only has three legs because one of them had to be removed.
So far, he's adjusting very well. He's an absolute sweetheart, and the only thing he can't do yet is climb stairs (although he's already handling curbs with ease).
The cats are... coping.
As I write this, our new dog is sleeping in one of his new beds, next to the couch. All I can think when I look at him (aside from "awwww") is "why would someone get a dog just to keep it in a closet?"
I'm looking forward to exploring the parks all over again, with a slightly different perspective...

Here I Go Again

Monday, February 25, 2013

I'm gearing up to start working on another book (the other one has been shelved until I can stand to look at it again, which may be awhile), so here I am, procrastinating.
I don't know if it was the food in Costa Rica or if I've finally managed to do this diet/exercise thing correctly, but I've actually managed to lose a couple of pounds and seem to have hit a tiny personal benchmark. YAY. Let's see if I can manage to keep it up. I avoided temptation in the form of pizza yesterday, but there is an inordinate amount of chocolate floating around my abode currently, and I can't seem to bring myself to trash Godiva.
I find myself looking forward to going to the gym with my husband this evening, so we'll see how that goes.
As Louise Rennison has said more than once, I am away laughing on a fast camel... Adios!

Costa Rica

Thursday, February 21, 2013

Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful places I have ever had the fortune to visit. My husband and I were able to travel across the country from the Caribbean to the Pacific, and the country is gorgeous from one side to the other. It is also, from most reports and from our own experience, very safe. At the end of our stay we spent four days at a resort. We felt no qualms about leaving the resort and exploring nearby beaches and towns.
It is, in my opinion, the perfect country to go to for an active, adventurous vacation.

I'm back.

The holidays were weird for me this year. I decided to jump feet first into the whole "first year of marriage" thing, and as I now live a few states away from the wonderful people who raised me, I did not go home for Christmas.
I did end up spending a lot of time with my husband's family, which was great. His mom helps keep me sane sometimes, I think.
I'm fairly proud of the fact that I only seem to have put one pound back on. I did my best not to overindulge and believe that I succeeded (for the most part), but it was much more difficult to get to the gym. I'm trying to get back on track with that now, and I've joined that Jumpstart January Challenge thing, so we'll see how that goes.
I'm going on my honeymoon next month, so I definitely have some motivation there...

Way to go on not gaining too much weight over the holidays. That is the hardest time for most people. And yes a honeymoon is very good incentive!
