Sugar and Inflammation...info.

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

So there are excellent places to read about how sugar has a direct effect on inflamation no your joints and for that matter your entire body. Of course there are plenty of links I could post but here's one that I read that was quite interesting and helpful to me.

So when you think that those aches and pains are from old age...think again...it might be something else....something you are eating that is triggering it...

Hmmmmmm

Starting water workouts and....made a realization ...

Monday, May 13, 2013

So this week I am starting a water workout class. Iam excited to be able to add some exercise into my mix of things. I'll also be heading back to hula class. Don't worry I'll still take it easy as I'm not 100% but I'm ready to get moving more again! I've felt pretty good lately and I'm managing my weight loss so that is a huge plus. As always I get side lined with things and this weekend was no exception. Being Mother's Day weekend...BY THE WAY ..HAPPY BELATED MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL YOU WONDERFUL WOMEN OUT THERE! :)

Mother's Day weekend I went down to visit with my Mom and family. I'm still on the no alcohol bit and was talking with a good friend of mine. She told me that her Doctor mentioned that sugar can cause inflamation in the joints. I did not know that....it just so happen I was telling her about Jamaica (HU MY CUH) A hibiscus drink very popular in the latin communities. Anyhow I've been drinking more lately and love love love it!

It is suppose to be a remedy for inflamation as well as high blood pressure. I've been drinking it for a few weeks. It's a great refreshing light drink. While some folks love adding a lot of sugar to it I prefer to keep it lighter but it can be tart. Just a warning :)

Anyhow here's a recipe I found and tried...super yummy refreshing for the summer..and good for you too? A bonus! It's a great way to get your water intake up too in the summer when you need a little flavor. OH and try it with a fresh squeeze of lime in it too! mmm so good~!

AGUA DE JAMAICA
• 2 cups (about 2 ounces) dried flor de jamaica (hibiscus flower calyces)
• 3/4 to 1 cup granulated cane sugar
• 8 cups water

agua fresca de jamaica
Bring 8 cups of water to a boil in a non-corrosive pot and add the flowers and the sugar. Stir to wet all the flowers and dissolve the sugar, and allow to boil for 3-5 minutes undisturbed.
Remove from heat, stir, and allow to steep and cool to room temperature for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Using a sieve over a pitcher, pour the liquid (with the flowers still in it) through the sieve to filter the flowers out. The flowers will have plumped up during rehydration. Press them against the sieve with your fingers or a spoon to extract any extra juice left inside.
Refrigerate. Yields about 6 cups of concentrated juice. When serving, cut with 50 percent water to dilute.

Still pushing through....

Thursday, May 02, 2013

You know how sometimes you get side tracked and then you realize that you should have been doing something but that in reality you haven't been doing it at all? Well that's what has been happening to me. I have been side tracked with what seems like the worst allergies I've ever had...coupled with wheezing, coughing which has last a month and a half and you've got what could have been a disaster when it comes to my success. HOWEVER...

WAIT FOR IT...........

Although I've been confined to very minimal work outs it hasn't detered me from keeping my eating in check. I'm paying more attention to why I'm eating and when. I also cut out alcohol until my trip to Hawaii soon. HEY a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. :) Fear not I'm pretty sure there is a Mai Tai or two in my future... :) LOL

For all those who may have been side lined with an injury (still recovering from my knee injury) or an illness fear not there are still ways to be able to help yourself stay on track. You can do this....WE can do this....

I can see it now....You ....Me.....and a really great success story to tell!!

Here's to your success and most definitely to MY SUCCESS! CHEERS!

It seems to be working...

Monday, April 22, 2013

I got on the scale the other day, fully clothed with my hiking boots on and the result was...another weight loss! Even with my heavier shoes on! I am loving it! I've been doing good on my walking even with my severe allergies right now. I know it's not a lot of weight but it's my own celebration of another goal...another day....another pound lost!

I hope everyone starts this week celebrates their own successes...no matter how small you might think it is! CHEERS!

I haven't...BUT...

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

So as we always do we have the best intentions when we starting making these diet and lifestyle changes and while I started off on the right foot I haven't managed to log my meals and workouts consistently. Heck I haven't even been able to blog consistently either.

BUT!!!!

Isn't there always a BUT (LOL) in the statements we make these days? :)

BUT I have been consistent with my walking!! YA ME!! emoticon

I've made it a point to walk each day at work and while God must be testing me I've managed to stay on track. Oh I won't win a marathon by an means...I do feel better. Staying on track on anything is hard to do so I give myself some koodos for sticking with it. I do like how the walking clears my head and helps me focus better. Oh I won't win employee of the month or anything like that but it definitely helps to destress me ...which is so needed.

So...I haven't BUT I actually have... THANK YOU AND GOOD DAY! LOL
