On a hunt for tangible goals.

Tuesday, May 08, 2012

Yesterday I tried to focus on specific goals; tangible goals that really fit for me. For whatever reason from last year. I had trouble staying focused and visualize what may work for me. However yesterday was not a total loss by any means. The weather was perfect, finally a day without rain. I took advantage of the beautiful weather and gardened for about 3 hours! I filled up 3 huge paper bags with yard waste; dead stuff from last year and weeds. I didn't break a sweat but I must have burned calories. I will check the fitness page to get an idea. There is of course the satisfaction of seeing a chunk of my garden with fewer weeds and less of the dead stuff. I am sitting here trying to decide if the goal of 30 minutes of activity per day that I made with my coach a couple of weeks is productive when I achieve the whole goal in one afternoon?

3 hours in one day is not the same as 30 minutes every day. Also, "being active" is not the same as exercising. It's those regular cycles of work and recovery that build muscle (including the heart) and burn calories. Going overboard on one day can result in injury and stiffness that sets you back instead of progresses you. emoticon

Maybe look at the extra time you spent in the garden as a bonus and still work at getting 30 minutes in every day?

PICTURE MY GOAL

Sunday, May 06, 2012

Today I went to a graduation party at a neighbor's and ended up feeling so ashamed. With my painful knees it is difficult to get up and down stairs. The stairs at my neighbor's house were especially difficult. Then the lawn chairs were especially uncomfortable as well. I Ieft earlier than I wanted to. As I was leaving, I was reminded that I have yet to get a clear picture of what I want to achieve. Today I was reminded of two things; I have been slacking with my knee exercises and I need to have a goal I can wrap myself around. I had a solid picture of where I wanted to end up when I quit smoking years ago. I need to do the same for losing weight and strengthening my knees.

Finally walked my route

Saturday, April 28, 2012

Today was the first day of following the route at work that I have planned to do. It is going out the second floor down the parking lot and around the corner to the entrance and a straight shot to the door inside. The route I took was the shortest route. There are ways I could add distance to the route when I am ready. The total time was only 13 minutes. It was a good distance as I just started to get winded. The night was windy, a nice invigorating wind not a cold wind. I feel great! Today I walked for a total of 20 minutes with and without my poles.

The nutrtion tracker doesn't lie

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

After battling fatigue and being so tired for so many weeks, it was great to have enough energy to run all my errands and keep going for the whole day. Unfortunately getting to the pool or walking with my poles wasn't on the list of errands but that is OK. Going all day and not needing a nap was good enough. With the energy I had I also tracked my food and cooked dinner instead of going out, after cleaning out my freezer and tossing some stuff to make room for 10 lean cuisine - they were on sale. I just tracked my food from yesterday and am totally appaled at the number of calories and fat grams I consumed. Today is a new day. The important thing is to stick to my program and keep logging.

Need to do it the old fashioned way....

Sunday, January 08, 2012

For weeks I have been missing writing about my weight loss journey. In my life there always seems to be some roadblock I have to overcome. Lately it is the acceptance that new fangled gadgets such as a smart phone and all the "apps" are not in my future. In my quest of finding ways that may make this weight loss journey a bit more easy or streamlined I have succumbed to the fact that my computer is the way for me. I used to have access to SP at work but the security settings were changed and I can not get to parts of this site that I want to. Places such as the message boards and mu Spark page. Once again I come to a realization that the support I receive on this site is critical to me and my progress. At this time in my life support is so important. With my arthritis getting worse moving on a regular daily basis is not an option but is mandatory. The stakes are different now. Putting shoulds on myself tends not to be helpful. However others can have such a kinder way to communicate then I can to myself. So tonight I planned what I will eat and I am writing in my blog.

Good for you for keeping up the blogging and making healthy choices in your life. Yes, logging on SP at work can be a challenge, so making time at home is somethings an only option. I do not have a smart phone, so I cannot use the apps either. Let us know how you are doing when you can.
