I am adding a component to my nutritional goals. I'm actually going to start taking a multivitamin daily. I used to do this, but it was difficult for me to keep with it, because I would always forget. Hopefully I'll remember it now!

I have a major sweet tooth, so I thought it would be nice of me to share a trick I learned for making an inexpensive cake that is also lighter than its regular counterpart. Buy one boxed cake mix. Instead of adding what it tells you to (eggs, oil), just pour it in a mixing bowl and add one can of diet soda. If you buy a chocolate or dark cake mix, use a dark soda (regular works well, but you can try like a diet dr. pepper or diet cherry if you want a little pizzazz). If you buy a light cake mix, use diet sprite or something like it. Bake in the oven as usual. Instead of making a heavy buttercream icing or buying a can of frosting, top the cake with light whipped cream. I'm telling you, the cake turns out moist and delicious!

I use just egg whites instead of whole eggs (sometimes you have to up the egg count a little if you do this to get enough liquid) and I use applesauce instead of oil!

Could be 'too much information' for some people

I love how exercise alleviates those monthly cramps. I mean, I really do feel like going hardcore on the elliptical for a half hour has made me feel SO much better. My womanly parts no longer ache, my back feels fine (I always get lower back pains this time of the month), and I generally feel less icky. I guess exercise really can be a cure-all, and that's why a lot of people get addicted to it. I know this feeling won't last forever, but it's certainly welcome for now.

Feeling Proud

Friday, January 18, 2008

I'm feeling really good about the few days that I've been on this site. I'm actually exercising almost everyday, and doing more than I technically have to on some days. I'm paying attention to what I eat. I'm still trying to brainstorm ideas to get to do more cooking and baking from scratch without piling on calories, but overall things are good. I'm just hoping that eventually I will indeed see results. I'm already generally feeling more energetic.

Housework counts as cardio?????

Thursday, January 17, 2008

So I was browsing through the different cardio workouts that the site recognizes...and they actually count "heavy cleaning" as a cardio workout. Not only that, but they have that I burned the same amount of calories in the hour that I spent cleaning today as the half hour I spent on my elliptical machine. SORRY. Don't think so! I put it on here anyway and let it count, but does anybody else think that it's stupid that cleaning counts as a workout?? I mean, come on!

Yes heavy cleaning counts, in my opinion, but clearly you would have to do a lot of it to burn the same amount as a short time on the elliptical. When I was repainting my entire apartment last year I counted that as cardio- and boy was it!!

Btw: it's not silly to say the site is helping you, it's helping me too for the same reasons. Keep it up :)

I clean heavily about once a week, but I still don't really consider it cardio.

I think there is a difference between light house cleaning and heavy. I believe I burn calories when I am really doing heavy cleaning, such as, vacuum and moving things, mopping floors, sweeping porches off and cleaning showers. If I just dust and pick up things I don't feel like I burned anything. So, yes I think you can burn calories, you can tell, when the cleaning gets you sweating a little. Its getting your heart rate up and at least you are moving.
