A Laugh with Stupidity

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Upon sharing a "Stupidity " story with my dearest friend, I decided I just had to write it as a Blog, so that others could also enjoy the laugh with me.
Actually this happened 50 years ago & our Family was visiting Gibraltar. At that time it was still ruled by England. The children needed to use a rest room so we entered & as I waited I prepared some toilet tissue for them. I then noticed some printing on EVERY sheet! I read it & started laughing. It read, "PROPERTY OF HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN". I related this to the kids & then we didn't know quite what to do. Do we have to wash it out & return it? We were all hysterically laughing at this point as we thought of all of the different connotation that this printing brought to mind. As we left I took a clean sheet & asked the Guard if I might have it to prove to our friends what we had just seen. Hegave a very stifled laugh, went into the mens room & brought out a 1/2 roll & told us to enjoy it as he tried to maintain the typical Guards demeanor., We brought back nearly a shoebox full of European TP, including squares of newspaper from the rail station in Switzerland, BUT nothing brought on the laughs from our friends, as our TP that belonged to the Queen. True Story. I still have our TP collection somewhere in this house.

Have I stumbled upon something? Who knows.

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

I have Neuropathy & it is especially bad in my legs, from the bottom of my feet, clear up to above my knees. The Dr. has me on strong pain meds, but of late, I wake up in the middle of the night in terrible pain. Out of pure frustration, I started doing every leg exercise that I could think of & even a few more. emoticon. I stretch every muscle from toes to the hips, twist every muscle left, right, up & down & inside & outside. I mean I really give those legs a work out. I had decided that if they were going to keep me awake, they were going to work. Now I don't know, but the pain seems to subside & I am able to go get a drink of water & go back to sleep. I am not an inactive person, I do swim aerobics, I still do yard work & I am still delivering meals on wheels at 80 & today it was 115 degrees. I am hustling for about 3 & 1/2 hours. I am working on weaving baskets & now learning to decorate gourds. In order to do all of this I am up by 6 at the latest & don't go to bed until 11 P.M.
Now my question is, will all of you with Neuropathy please try this & see if it is of any help to you & if not, what is helping you. My friends say that I do too much but if I sit down, I may never get up. LOL I'll be interested to hear from you.

I don't have neuropathy, but you've gotten some great advice and support from others who do. I just wanted to say you blow me away with all that you are able to do each day WITH neuropathy AND at age 80. You inspire me! I'll be 61 in a couple months, but still feel ilke a colt. It's good to know I don't have to slow down just because I'm 80!

Good on ya.

First of all emoticon on all you are doing.
I too, have neuropathy. It doesn't seem as bad for me as at the beginning but is still difficult when getting out of bed.
My worst time is when it is damp out. The pain gets excruciating when I try to walk at those times; hence that is when my exercise sadly sometimes goes on hold.
Overall though, I have found the exercise of walking probably the best for me.
With the neuropathy, I am very sensitive to touch on my body even when getting my B12 shots. My exterior is very sensitive.
I keep hoping for a miracle for some relief.

There is an ad on TV that says "A body in motion stays in motion" I find that so true. If I do something active first thing in the morning I keep going all day. If I don't at least get a short walk around the yard I find doing things harder.

Interesting - I don't have the same problem but I can get restless legs especially at night - and if I stretch and move the muscles when they start to twitch. it settles them down!!
However with most things its really a case of - if it works for you - then you do it!!

If it's working for you, keep it up! That's what my 90 somethings neighbor ladies say...they gotta keep moving or they won't be able to. There are a handful of them walking every morning and night around my neighborhood still under their own power! They are wonderful inspiration and motivation as are you!

A LONG AWAITED FREE DAY?

Monday, March 07, 2011

I was very excited this morning because I didn't have any appointments, dr's. or otherwise so I started right in & really cleaned off my small kitchen counters. Then as I was putting a dish away I discovered. Cookie Crubs galore. You see, my DH has a stash of cookies & it looks like every time he went to get one he scattered crumbs, ALL over. So I wound up cleaning all 3 shelves. Here I come birdies with a bunch of food for you LOL. Now that is done, time to clean out the refrigerator & make my famous Refrigerator Stew. My kids grew up on that every Sat.night. I could always consider that a free meal for the budget. As I got that all put together I heard this noise out in front. Really high winds today but what is it? So I opened the garage door & went out to look & found that our flag was caught on the weather vain that is mounted on top. The wind was shredding the flag.. DH was off driving for Meals on Wheels & we can no longer lift the flag pole down. I lowered the flag so that it didn't have so much room for a sail & apologized to it.
As I turned to come back in, a gust of wind brought all of the neighbors leaves into the garage to join all of the others that had blown in while I was out looking. So I shut the G-door & started cleaning up the 2 car garage. Now I put all of the debris into a flat box that was laying right there. Then I took the cars remote & thought, "I will go over to the corner of the garage & open the door & throw it out at the side" Well, when I opened the door the wind caught it & slapped it right up the front of me. Mouth full & all of my clothes, pftu!. So then I closed the door & proceded to clean it up again & this time I put it in the trash basket . Why didn't I do that the first time. Is there a symbol on this keyboard for a dunce!. Came in the house & showered etc. Then came out to clean the kitchen floor. Now, it is going toward 12:30, so I guess I will get a bite to eat.. About then DH came home & he had to go out & look at our poor flag & the leaves came rolling into the garage again. Do you know what? At that point, I didn't care!
We ate & then he went in for his nap. His room has a 5'window that opens onto the Az. room/Craft room/Dining room. so there went my good intentions of working out cleaning up my craft area. Anyway - The spirit has left. Maybe, or not, when he gets up I can do some work out there. Most likely by that time it will be time to prepare dinner. Just can't win & Grandaughter is coming for a visit this weekend. Now I will start "thinking" about fixing her favorite dishes. But I enjoy that! Just hope that I don't encounter one more day like today!

Hummm!! Doesn't sound like a very free day to me - but I guess you got in your exercise!!
That sure was some wind - the poor flag sounds like it suffered, not to mention the garage floor!!

Does it really matter?

Sunday, December 26, 2010

Ever since I was married, Holiday celebrations occurred when possible. With my DH always flying in the AF preparations were always made but then the celebration was enjoyed whenever he was able to be home. Our first Christmas DH was flying back & forth between Japan & Korea. SO - Even tho I was living at home, I got a small tree & started our own traditions of Christmas. My biggest purchase was all of the figurines of the Creche, which I placed under the tree with loving care. My Dad went into his workshop & built a beautiful Chreche out of scrap plywood. I stained it & then placed the entire scene together. Pictures were sent so that DH could enjoy "OUR" 1st Christmas I have the Creche to this day & soon it will belong to one of my wonderful GC. Even after we were stationed together the special activities happened when he got home. Even the Children grew up understanding. I just felt the tradition carried on as Our Grandson is a pilot now & our DD's other 2 are both home from college for a time & they all decided to wait & make Monday their Christmas because then they can be together as a family. For some silly reason, it made me feel closer to them & Mon. will be a great day for us all.

    Of course it doesn't matter.
Family, Love and your own special Traditions are all that matter.
I will be thinking of you all on Monday.
I know your day will turn out to be special and wonderful with all your Family Together. THATS ALL THAT MATTERS !!!!!!

Christmas should be a family time - this isn't always possible and the nearest we can get to that is good - so finding ways to do this is great.
Many people are separated from their family, particularly with the weather this year - many in Europe spent Xmas in airporta, and in USA many decided not to travel because of the weather, while here many spent it weither clearing up from a cyclone or floods or sitting o the side of the roads that were cut by floods!!
Take care and enjoy what ever you have!!

Daily Devotions are eye openers, or was it the photographs..

Sunday, August 08, 2010

Every day GloriaB73 Has had a wonderful Devotion for us. Today she tells of someone being frightened when they saw their image in a mirror in a dim light. It convinced this woman to do something about her image. Well after spending time with our family & seeing all of those phtos everyone was taking, I couldn't decide, was that really me hugging my grandsons & also me , sitting on the sofa, OR was that really a "TOAD"! Why is it we never see ourselves in others eyes. Now that I have lost part of my weight, I can't imagine what I really looked like. I had a lot of pictures on the computer & I had the urge to go thru them & delete all of the ones that I was in. But I decided that I needed those to remind me of my "TOAD" life. I don't ever want to go back to that stage. It was so easy to say that because I am 79 that looking like a toad reminded me of my grandmother but my joints are not happy about all of that weight & besides, I'm living a lot longer than my grandparents. I guess that is a good reason to not look like a toad or being startled when passing a mirror.

Well said. It was the photo of me at my son's wedding in 2003 that was the 'wake up call'. I was so embarrassed that his children would see that emoticon Grandmother. I really wanted to take those photos out of the 'pictures' but it was too late to do anything about it so I started to do something about the future and lost 75 lbs so far. It's been reall WORTH IT ALL.
Thanks for this blog.
Jen, still 20 lbs to go emoticon
