I'm Back

Thursday, January 05, 2012

I'm not sure I ever left, but am ready to hit it hard again. I lost those first 65lbs so fast and for once in my life I just felt revived to live my life like I've wanted to for so long. I was able to get out and hike for miles, run, bike and not feel like a sludge doing it.

Some of you may have followed me on my photo blog and as you know I've had an amazing summer and fall doing photo trips I've been wanting to do that for a long time and just getting out and exploring the places I've been putting off because I felt I wasn't ready. My attitude now is let's just do it and if I make a mistake then I'll learn from it.

I can't say I followed a strict diet, but then again I didn't sit around and watching TV either. Did I gain weight? I'm at the same weight before the last time I blogged. I've probably had my ups and downs, but I've learned from Sparkpeople not to beat myself up for having a binge here and there and to keep active. If there is one thing I am sure of is that I can maintain and not go back to my self destructive eating habits.

I'm don't necessarily like spending hours in the gym and that's what I did the first 65lbs. I enjoyed this past summer doing outdoor activities. With the winter cold coming on, I found myself getting stagnate and so I forced myself back in the gym. I'll admit a few holiday cookies can take their toll on you. One of my goals this year is to take up snowshoeing. I figured it was a great way to get some good nature photography done.

I know that some of you have been pinging me and I really appreciate it. It's allowed me to keep sight of my overall goal which I have not accomplished. Time to hit it hard again and meet that goal. I'm so inspired by the progress you all have made! Keep up the hard work. See you at the finish line!

Fun stuff! It's amazing how fun stuff burns calories. I skipped to the park with my niece the other day, and 1 minute of skipping burns 25 calories! emoticon

Don't let attacks defeat you!

Sunday, May 01, 2011

It was a brisk this morning. It was only 28 this morning when I left the house for the Cherry Creek Sneak 5 mile run. The cold didn't really excite me. I was feeling a little tightness in my glutes and hamstrings from yesterday's run and was a little concerned that my muscles wouldn't warm sufficiently. Why was race day going to be cold?!

Hat, gloves, fleece - bundled up and warm!

It's been 16 years since I've run this race. Way too long and for whatever reason I let myself go over those years. That is the past and this morning I made it to the race and a little cold weather wasn't going to stop me.

Todays shirt --- Shirt from 16 yrs. ago

I think waiting for the race to start was most agonizing. It just allowed those negative thoughts to flow in and take over. It was a good thing my wife was there with me encouraging me. Finally I just put my ear buds in and put on some good music and got in the right frame of mind for the race.

My running campanion - iPod Nano

Finally the race started. I felt good and energetic, then about 1/2 mile into the race, my left hamstring balled up and it felt like an electric shock coursing down my leg and up to my lower back. Ahhhh! emoticon

I had to slow and see if I could stretch it out. I tried to stretch it some and then just walked slowly. It was painful, but finally just told myself I had to do this, so I just started with a slow short paced jog. Eash step hurt. I hit mile 1 at about 13.45 which was almost 2 minutes slower than the pace I was hoping to keep.

The hamstring pain was still there, but as my body got warmer I started to notice it less and less. At about 1.5 miles I was able to start pushing it again and finished the 2nd mile at a 12.30 pace. By 2.5 miles I was feeling good. I still couldn't sprint and push like I wanted to, but I was running good clips and actually finished mile 4 at an 11:15 pace! I had hoped to finish the race in under an hour and I still had a chance to get there.

I came around the corner and could see the finish line and finally made a hard push...59:39 was my finishing time!

5 miles completed! Goal Accomplished!

I'm so overjoyed! Another goal accomplished. It's amazing the power of putting down goals and letting people know so you can be accountable to those goals! Thanks to all my Spark Friends who have encouraged me and kept me accountable!

Next up - rehab and rest for my hamstring. It's a very sore right now. I have to figure out how to get it strong and limber. I have to get back to serious weight loss again and figuring out how to make my body more flexible and limber. I still have close to 40 lbs I want to lose.

More goals to attack, but today, just some rest and celebration! Keep pushing Sparkers! See you at the finish line!

emoticon to you on another goal accomplished! Isn't great to have the love and support of a spouse? My husband is my rock! He's right there to talk me up, when self-doubt starts creeping into my vocabulary.
You are making this happen! Way to push through and not only complete the run, but come in under the time you had hoped for.
Such inspiration! emoticon
