WooHoo!! 50 Pounds gone!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday, September 20, 2008

As of tonight, I have lost 50 pounds! What an interesting last few months it's been too. I've learned so much--about food, eating, habits, health, exercise--and a LOT about myself. Turns out I have a lot more willpower, fortitude, or persistence than I ever thought possible. I now KNOW that I can reach my main goal and be smaller, healthier and wiser. It is such a relief to realize that I really do have it in me to make the changes I so desperately needed to make. The cloud I'm floating on right now is still a large one but I know I will need an ever smaller one as time goes by to hold me up.

Hubby's Birthday Cake.

Sunday, August 24, 2008

Yesterday was my husband's 62nd birthday. Money has been very scarce so no party, very little in the way of presents. But one thing I could afford to do was bake him a really nice cake. Dark chocolate fudge chunk cake. With cream cheese frosting and sprinkles.
Now even under ordinary circumstances I don't eat a lot of cake. But I have been eating a lot of salads, veggies and fruit lately. I figure a treat is just what I'd like. So I helped my husband eat his cake.
It was delicious!
And you know, I don't feel guilty, I'm not beating myself up over all those calories or regretting what it may have done to my weight loss efforts.
My husband's birthday only comes around once a year, and to me birthdays are a really special day. It was very enjoyable to sit with hubby and have a cup of coffee and a big slice of cake last night while he recounted what a great day he had had, all the cards he received, phone calls from son and granddaughter.
It was well worth the calories!!

Going into overdrive now!

Friday, August 15, 2008

So I weighed myself just now and it looks like a total of 36 pounds gone so far! Such a thrill!
Plus--I was having trouble finding an exercise bike that I could afford. Well, I posted a need for one in two freecycle.org groups and today I finally got offered a bike! I am picking it up at 6 tonight, and it is FREE! WOO HOO! Definitely a great day.
So I've been having pretty good success for the last 3 months without exercise. It should really rev up now that I can burn up those calories!
I'm pretty excited by this!

Having trouble finding an exercise bike

Wednesday, August 06, 2008

I have advertised on two freecycle groups, a free ad paper in my area and looked at every yard sale for miles around and just can't seem to find an exercise bike that I can afford.
I can't do very much walking due to a medical issue with my legs, I'm very limited in mobility. But I could use an exercise bike as much as I want.
It seems like before I was looking for one they were everywhere, at every yard sale and on the freecycle groups, but after I started looking they all disappeared!
It's so frustrating, because this would be my ideal form of exercise! I live way too far from a gym, and couldn't afford the membership anyway. Both colleges around here have gyms, but they are over 30 miles away and I can't afford the gas to go there every day.
I have looked into so many different things that just won't work for me. I have been having success with just dietary changes, but I'm sure it would be just so much better with exercise added in.
Well, maybe this weekends yard sales will yield something. I'm always hopeful!

Oh yeah, I move my feet a lot while sitting. I have restless leg syndrome and my feet are always wanting to do something, LOL. But if I get up and walk around to try to relieve it, they decide they wanted to sit down after all.
Arthritis in my knees, I guess from carrying around too much weight. That's why I think a bike would be so good, a lot less weight-bearing on my joints.
My doctor told me not to ride my regular bike anymore because I am on blood thinner medications and it would really be dangerous to have a fall. He recommended a stationary bike.

Good luck in finding a bike. Do you move your feet even when sitting in a chair. Every little bit helps.

Good luck finding a bike-- I know I can not do that! I do my chair dancing and any other tape or DVD I can get my hands on that I can make to my level. It is not easy being physically challenged! I hope you find a bike-- any exercise is better than none.

Heat is killin' me!!

Sunday, July 27, 2008

It's been over 100 degrees for over a month now........................
I've managed to keep up with drinking my water plus several bottles of diet green tea and a cup or two of coffee in the mornings. But any activity has just been too much for me. I can't afford an air-conditioned gym membership, and without air conditioning in my house it's been miserable. LOL I think I have been burning calories just with the amount of sweat that's been pouring off me.
But the not so bad part of it is that I just don't feel like eating, and when I do eat I want something cold....salad, watermelon, raw carrots.
I haven't weighed myself in a couple weeks, building up the anticipation of another few pounds gone. I do much better if I see 3,4 or 5 pounds gone at a time. One pound just doesn't do much for me, so I don't weigh very often. I just know that I am staying the course and it's working!

emoticon (that's sweat, not tears, LOL)

Caffeine is a diutetic-- please try to drink decaf or more water!! I hate the extreme heat!!

In the summer I tend to not be huingry but then I get ravenous if I dont snack so I need to remember to eat a little so I dont binge.

I live in NE Minnesota so we usually don't have 90 or 100 degree weather. It has been in mid - high 80swith 65% or higher humidity. Can't stand to be out for more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time but I do that several times a day so I do get in at least a mile of walking. I figure every little bit helps.
Congrats on your weight loss so far. That's terriffic.
I eat a lot of salads--but so far I haven't had any melon--it's ben so expensive.
You can do this. Don't give up. Walk inside your house, move your feet when standing in one place, everything helps.
