It's Time To Say Good-Bye...

Monday, September 06, 2010

I imagine that was a catchy title, but it is a true one. As I was responding to a emoticon's status feed it hit me that I must say "Good-Bye". Good-bye to what? The old habits of the old me. One of my notorious habits was being a clutter bug. Stuff all over the place. Throughout my childhood my mom would get so frustrated with my untidy room and would try different things to get me to clean. Even in my home she would actually (yes before you read this I know I am spoiled rotten), but she would actually give up her day to clean my house. I would come home and just love how I could see the beautiful hardwood floors so clean and shiny and the counter tops and furniture clear, and I thought to myself I've got to keep it this way. It was a nice thought, but it wasn't long before those clear floors, counter tops and furniture where filled with stuff.

So this HAD to go onto the 'I Can't Go Back' list. Now I'm in week 12 and there has been such an improvement. For weeks now I've been getting my cleaning points. I love how I can see the floors, furniture and counter tops because I cleared them and and keeping them that way. I also love being at to cook, sit and just live without having to shift things here and there. I even impressed my mom!

So good-bye old messy me emoticon and hello new clean me.

It can only get better from here. Who knows maybe I'll reach the cleaning skills of my mother!!

I wish I was at the point where I could say goodbye as well. I'm looking around in my room right now and see total chaos! I want to, but I know that I'm not at that point. All I can say at this point is that I am doing what I am able to handle right now. BUT...I say CONGRATS to you!!! :-) Clearing the mess in the house clears the mess in the head...for sure.

That is such an inspiration. I wish you could convince my nephew of that. He's such a packrat. I have problems too, but not to the same extent he does. After a couple of days, I can't stand it, and have to clean. My mother made sure, even if I was male, I could be proud of my living environment. Thanks for sharing, and keep up the great work.

Fitting It In - Yes I Can

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

For the last several weeks I've been focused on getting to bed in time for 8 hrs of rest. The struggle has been that by the time I get home from work, get in my cardio and strength training it seems like I barely have time to do much of anything but go to bed. But I do like getting that extra rest so what to do. Well I was blessed to come up with a way to fit it in. I have to thank God, because I wouldn't have thought of this, but I now take my weight with me to work for strength training. I can do reps here and there while I work vs. trying to get it all done at home. It works out good. So yes you can fit it in and get to sleep on time too.

From Disappointment To Grateful

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

I like happy updates and today is still a happy one sprinkled with a teeny bit of sad. I mentioned having major tooth pain several weeks ago. Thankfully it subsided because it took like 2 weeks to get into the dentist. Well the dentist was able to do a root canal, but again I had another wait ahead of me. So today thinking I'm going for the completion of the procedure I got the sprinkle of bad news. You see this past Thursday the temporary came out and unfortunately I didn't realize how brittle the condition of my tooth was and I know I ate some hard stuff like Kashi GoLean cereal. It's so good and good for me but wow is it crunchy. That and probably other stuff between Thursday and this afternoon turned my visit into a bit of a sour one. The dentist informed me that my tooth had split and he was not going to be able to do anything but pull it. emoticon I could feel a small tear wanting to come out but it didn't and I begin to think about the what could haves:

1. He asked if I'd been in pain at least twice. My answer: No. (so obviously I could have been in pain again!)

2. Speaking of pain. A dear cousin of mine has been in tooth pain since at least Friday and her only relief was garlic?? emoticon emoticon That could have been me.

3. I just knew the pulling would be a dramatic overture of cracking, knocking and drilling, but she came out with quite a bit of ease. The numbing hurt more than the pulling.

4. The tooth is in the back of my mouth (would have done a major number on my cheese and I don't need anymore issue there) - did you laugh?

5. There's always comestic dentistry to repair those gaps. Hey I used to watch Extreme Makeover so I know there is help out there. Does anyone have the number to that dentist?

Anyway, for now I've got to keep my mouth shut and get a gauze inside to control the bleeding. So you see I'm a bit disappointed to loose a tooth, but grateful that it wasn't much more than that.

Thanks for reading!

My heart dropped when I read "root canal". I can see you didn't know this but root canals cause all kinds of severe health complications down the line; pulling is always preferable even if you need a bridge etc. I would never never have a root canal knowing what I know now; so in reality my sister, GOD SAVED YOU AND YOU DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT!!!!

Grateful that the toothache has been taken care of. Sometimes you have to lose in order to gain. You gained, relief from pain, peace of mind, and the end to an ordeal that has continued for 2 weeks! Hang in there. So glad it's in the back of your mouth...the only folks that'll see it is those are busy watching you shout "HALLELUJAH!!!" instead of praising Him theirselves!! LOL emoticon

I Can't Go Back Update - Rewards

Thursday, August 19, 2010

I enjoyed a mid-week day off today (getting in some PTO time) and went shopping for rewards. I will be going into week 10 starting Saturday and I continue to say this program has been a blessing and huge overall lifestyle improvement for me just like Sparkpeople.com has been (the Site and the Book add to my inspiration for this). Things that wouldn't get done for months are almost caught up. I've tried new fitness routines and even though some are hard I don't give up. I exercise when I don't feel like it and I've increased my understanding in God's Word and it has been a blessing. Some of the prizes I found were:

Food chopper (I heard from a co-worker that these are nice to have)
Egg Separator (like the one featured on TV)
New set of ear phones
Money Jar (the kind that counts your coins for you) - Only $5 NEW!
Computer games
Popchips (way better than regular chips - these were a give away last year at the Spark Convention)
Topsy Turvy - Tomato Planter
Hair accessories
Good smelling things
Clothes including technical shirts*

I purchased the technical shirts at a local GoodWill store. There were so many of them from a local running store and even name brand shirts. The kind you pay like $40 or more for brand new I got for only .99 cents! I found 3 of them so that's like a $117 savings.

Most of my prizes cost only $10 or less so you can see that if don't have to spend a lot of money to motivate yourself to get to moving and to continue this lifestyle change.

Thanks for reading!

Need So More Advice

Monday, August 16, 2010

A few months ago I started receiving a magazine subscription and I just thought it was a company trying to send me a few freebies in hopes that I would sign up for a long subscription. The magazine title seemed like a good fit until I browsed through and saw it was nothing much more than super skinny women, barely dressed and a few 'health' notes here and there. Out of the whole magazine was probably two pages worth of helpful tips. It joined the trash.

So the other day when I got yet another magazine I was annoyed and then I checked the label and it said that the subscription was through 2011!! I sent and email to cancel the unauthorized subscription and received a silly reply that I would have to contact 'M2 Media Group' because that's who set it up. I feel like this is like a credit card scam. Why would this 'M2 Media Group' start a subscription in my name and why would this magazine allow it?? Has anyone else had this happen to them? What did you do to stop the subscription? I have no desire to contact this group because their practices are obviously unethical. Any advice would be appreciated. I just don't want some bill showing up at my house because I wouldn't pay half a penny for that magazine.

Check your credit reports. Check each of the big 3, don't check them all at once, instead do a different one every 4 months. That way you get a free credit report every 4 months, and can tell if there's unauthorized activity. Anytime you get free stuff at your address with someone else's name, or stuff you didn't order at your address with your name, or strange bills that look like you but you didn't do, be sure to check your credit reports.

I know we should be doing it anyway but most of us don't until after it's a problem.

I would not contact the people they are referring you to; it might be a phishing scam. You do not have to give out bank accts or social to have your identity stolen, contrary to what people think. With just your name, address (and phone which they'll have if you call them) they can get other info from public records and steal your identity.

Send letters certified, with return receipt requested on all correspondence, and keep the certified receipts stapled to a copy of the letter you sent (receipts from PO and receipt from the person who signed for picking up your letter) for the rest of your life in a bank safety deposit box (so it's fireprotected, and so a copy is off-premise, and so it is where you'll always be able to find it without "losing" it).

TRUE-NESS 8/16/2010 7:36PM

If you don't mind getting the magazines month after month after month, then you can do nothing. If you didn't sign up for the subscription then they have no legal way to bill you and expect payment. HOWEVER, if you want the problem resolved, you have to resolve it. Firstly, report them to the Better Business Bureau for unethical practices. You'll have to explain the problem and how you've attempted to resolve it. I wouldn't call them, if I were you. It could be just a ploy to get your contact info so they can then start calling you soliciting your business. Send them something in writing explicitly stating that you did not order these magazines and request that they discontinue sending them. That's it. As long as they don't try to bill you then it's nothing more than an irritation. If billing is involved then there'll be a little more involved. Try that and be patient. As with PINKBEANBOO's experience, it might take a couple of months, but it'll stop IF you take action to stop it.

This hasn't happened to me exactly, but I do know what you mean about getting a magazine in the mail you don't want.
Several years ago I was getting a catalog that had all kinds of cheap stuff in - everything from clothes to household items to toys. When I realized they were selling what I would call "rated R" stuff in the catalog I was furious. I mean, my kids would look through that catalog to see the toys & other kids things & while doing so were being exposed to that. I called them to cancel my subscription & told them how upset I was. It took a couple of months, but they finally stopped coming.
