Marathon Update

Monday, January 11, 2010

It's official...I plan to run in the half marathon and not the full. I chose the full marathon because the training schedule worked best for my schedule, however I just found out that I can train during the week for the full marathoner's shorten runs and hang with the half marathoner's for the longer Saturday runs. Seeing the longest race I'd ever ran was a 5K I was concerned about being able to keep up. I'm still kicking it up a notch with doing the 1/2.

Jack LaLanne's Juicer

Saturday, January 09, 2010

The other day I was watching the Jack LaLanne's Juicer infomercial and thought I'd like one. Plus the low price of $100 seemed like a winner. My parents have juiced in the past so I know the benefit. I even bought a juicer, but it was cheaper and it didn't take long for it to land in storage.

Well I bought my juicer from a local store (BTW I found out it's better to order online - you can get 2 for the price of 1 just pay the extra shipping - oh and you can get different colors too).

I need my juicer now, because I've been wrestling with cold symptoms and I could tell my body has really been trying to fight it. I would have a small cough or sneeze, or a sore throat and even the fatigue feeling you get, but it would never last really long, but it would happen each day. I even missed a marathon run because I just didn't feel good and that warm bed was calling me to stay in doors and go back to sleep!

Well tonight I made a carrot, apple, tomato and cucumber juice. It was so good and the Jack LaLanne Juicer is much better now because I didn't even need a strainer. I just put the vegetables in and drank. Yummy!

I was kind of leary about juicing at first. But my mom has a way of convincing her kids to try new things regardless of how much we squirm and growl at what she says. Can't remember what she tossed in her cuisinart juicer besides carrotts and celery to convince me, but it was pretty good. I think she'd make a good salesperson for sure. LOL! I'll check into Jack LaLanne's juicer though. Thanks for sharing.

I looked at the site. I'll remember it if I ever get tempted to juice! I've never cared for juicing nor smoothies up til now, but, will keep it in mind. Things change!

That is so cool. My mother wants one. I'd like one too, but it'll have to wait until I get a house. Just no counter space here at all.

Another Weight Loss Reward

Monday, January 04, 2010

I wish I could have taken a picture of this. Oh well you'll just have to use your imagination.

It's after 5:00 pm and though you had a good day at work, you were still at work and now that your day is done you are ready to go home. You decide to take the first bus that comes by. Oh no the bus company has went efficient on you. Yes buses get smaller too you know. Factor in going from 4 available buses to two than having routes elimated from the two remaining and it makes for a crowded bus.

Well that's where I found myself today and unlike a friend of mine who walked to another bus stop to ensure getting a seat, I got on at the last stop and by the time the bus got to me there appeared to be standing room only.

Being a regular bus rider I know that people tend to stand even if there is a seat available. But when I looked back I saw nothing! That didn't deter me from hollering back 'are they any seats back there'! To my happiness a man and a lady moved over to the left and right and there appeared a seat! There wasn't much room but I felt no embarrassment as I made my way to the VERY back of the bus and took my seat. Why, because I fit now!

Remember there are all kinds of ways to measure your progress. Don't get so stuck on that scale. Look for those A Ha moments that let you know you're going in the right direction with your goals and keep doing what you're doing.

Hangin' In, In 2010!

That is really great. Don't it feel so good to know you can fit in places you couldn't before? No more of those, "I know you're not about to try to fit here" looks.

I love your blogs! I'm resubscribing under my new spark name. Where did the baby picture go? I loved that child's face and eyes.

Yes we must celebrate each success!

Marathon Training - Day 1

Saturday, January 02, 2010

This morning was my first day of training for the Flying Pig Marathon held each year in Cincinnati. I made the decision last Wednesday that this was something I wanted to do to step up my physical activity a notch in 2010.

After reading a couple of articles on clothing I headed out on New Year's Eve to purchase "wicking" clothes (these keep heat in and sweat out). I can't think of a time that I've ever ran in cold weather with the exception of running to a warm place and to get out of the cold so I felt a little nervous about what I chose. Thankfully I'm over that now. Those garments do cost more than a cotton shirt, but wow do they work to keep you warm and dry while running!

I wore two 'wicking' type shirts: turtle-neck and long sleeve tee; also for the top I wore a running tee; light weight jacket with sleeve and an out vest with hood & pockets. For the lower body I work tights (non cotton); leggings and running pants. Also a thermal hat and gloves (which as you can see below are quite bright!)

To my amazement and happiness I was warm throughout my run and I didn't even feel the sweat that was on my body or the fact that my hair got drench until I was back inside a warm building. I was shocked at how wet my hair got because I felt nothing while running.

I finished the 5 miles in 55 minutes so that's like running at a 11 minute mile pace and considering I'm a novice I felt that was quite good. I completed 3 miles without walking in between! That's a first. Last year's 5K I didn't do that, but what helped was keeping a pace and watching your place. Some of the streets were in some serious need of repairs.

My legs are a bit sore (hamstrings) but that's expected. I've got a few more things to buy including new gym shoes, but I've got some gift money coming so I hope to use that for them. Oh and I have to buy what I believe is called a gator cap. One part of my body that didn't fair so well was my face (in particular my lips). So that is a must to purchase.

Hope all my emoticons and anyone reading this blog continue doing what it takes to be your healthiest, happiest and more energized selves.

May God Bless you!

I'll leave this comment on your page too, but I got them from Walmart. They come in the plastic bags like what you see in the first picture and cost $8.00 each. The brand name is Danskin.

I am really proud of you!!! Great Job. My dad said the high for Cincinnati today was 27...I can't imagine...So I guess "wicking" clothing does work. Have fun and I know you will do well for the marathon.

so where exactly did you get the wicking clothing? My mom bought me a couple of jackets but I think I need to purchase some more under shirts. I'm so glad that your first training day went well. Great job!

Hallelul Updates

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

I have two updates. Most who have read my blogs know that I like keeping my workouts fresh so I don't get bored and I can keep it fun and interesting. Well last night I received a nice gift from a cousin. She bought me the 10 Minute Solution: Knockout Body Workout Kit w/Weighted Gloves (2009) featuring Jessica Smith. I was quite happy to get such a nice gift. I plan to incorporate this new training on Friday, Jan 1.

Next is this evening. Sparkfriend KGirl29 decided to participate in a local marathon in May 2010 and I've been thinking about participating in it myself so tonight I plan on attending the last training information session to get myself to a decision of if this will be the year to really kick it up a notch.
