The Raba

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

These days, I run each day to a different direction, I enjoy exploring new ground. And actually, there is a river in Gleisdorf, not small. Somehow, I only realized it today. I'm laughing at myself, how could I live here for 9 months, and only see The River today.

It is called Rába in Hungarian, or Raab in German.

I know the Raba very well, as in Hungary, we used to make canoe tours during high school, and once we made a week trip on the Rába.

I think I like running. I discovered that during the whole day, I was looking forward to my daily run. This is my time, for myself. And somehow, I was running in company, all you Daisy team and SparkFriends somehow companied me. This is great.

Do you see him?

It looks like you have a great place to run. I am so glad you enjoy it and share your finds with us. I tried running for awhile, but I think I'll go back to a walk/jog instead.

That's so great that you run and discover new places all the time! I know I tend to get stuck in the same two or three walks - I will also start to walk new places!!

I have yet to try running outside, but you are inspiring me to try. The treadmill just isn't the same thing! You are having many new, interesting adventures while running, and I like hearing about them! emoticon emoticon
I wonder what adventure you will have tomorrow?

Don't feel bad about the river situation. I do an exercise in school where I quiz the students on obvious things they should see each day as they come to school: things like how many steps do they come down by the office, what is written on the mat as they walk in, how many trees are in front of the school. It's amazing what we miss everyday that is obvious. Because I enjoy photography I have started to see many things I missed before. It's fun finding those new things. Keep looking. As you run, I'm sure you will discover a whole new world.

I admire you for running each day. I try to walk, but running isn't in the cards for me. Take care.

I truly admire you runners-there are several here in Port Orchard. The warmer the weather, the more come out of hiding, although there are a few who seem to have real tough skins and even run in the rain! Thanks for sharing your river, and may you continue to find new blessings you are being given each day! Have a good one! emoticon

    Thank you for the encouragement!

Maybe an otter, I didn't see its tail. Or a beaver. And because the sun was going down, zooming the photo doesn't help more, it's low light and pixelized. It jumped in the water immediately when I arrived, and always tried to swim out of the photo.

And indeed, since I run, I start to see this place where I live differently, and I like it more and more. I didn't know before that forests and the mountains are SO close. It's new to me, I lived in cities, smaller or bigger, and had to travel if wanted to be in green.

emoticonIf you've just found a river you've overlooked imagine what smaller things you'll discover on your runs.

I am truly enjoying the scenery you are sharing from your runs and biking.

And you win, I give up! What is the little creature in the water? A muscrat? A beaver?

This is from my window, just before starting my daily run tonight. I start from and arrive back here every day.

Gleisdorf, Hauptplatz

So, I promised the goals for the 2011 Spring 5% Challenge.
Here they are:

My SP goals for 7th May - 2nd July 2011:
1. Track my food every day.
- Even, if I eat more than my calorie budget, I will track every single item.
- If I don't have internet access, I jot down to my copybook, and enter items later to SP.

2. 10 min exercise every day.
- As for running, get on my running shoes and clothes, get out down to the square, and then decide if to run or not. I can come back, but then do push ups, situps, or a SP video exercise inside, still in my running gear.
- If I travel, I bring my running gear with me (shoes, trousers, t-shirt, jumper, cap, phone+headphones).

3. Blog about my sparklife at least 3 times a week.
- Read blogs of team members at least 3 times a week, and leave at least a thumbsup in comments.
- If I will be offline for more then a week, I write about the past days the latest the 2nd day I am back on-line.

If I don't keep my goals, please, let me know!

OK, let's roll!

Note: the fountain is on 08:00-22:00.

Let's run it to be a habit

Monday, May 09, 2011

I was thinking about what should be the new habit I do this week and write about each day.

Then I thought, I just get out to run, and I will think about it during my daily run.

And I realized, this should be the habit that each day I get dressed for running, go out, and make a few steps.

Because I started to run - or rather do 10 min exercise each day - only two weeks ago, on Tue 27th April 2011. I have been doing it since then, every day. I even went out to run last Wednesday and Thursday at 00:30 am, when I was in Krefeld, Germany on a business trip; and because our trials got very long, plus we had business dinner, I got to my hotel room very late at midnight. Even Endomondo registered my workout for the next day, so Wednesday look all alone empty in the workout calendar. The impulse came on 27th by reading the call from SparkGuy, to join him for a 1000 day streak of 10 min exercise each day. I found this idea so funny, I had to join. So, I am doing exercise since then, now for two weeks, and I think I'll do all this week, too, each day.

But, although I did it every day, it is not a habit yet.

So, this will be my new, a bit old, but still new habit for this week. 10 min exercise each day.

As for the goals, I think I need to run a bit more.

Here's the entrance of the forest where I ran today.
After a few steps, I switched off the music and listened to the chirponcerto.

My Nokia N8 phone makes pictures everywhere I go. I love the quality of the pictures, and it's a bargain for $370 at amazon.

I like the 10 minutes a day habit too. I've been doing it myself, I miss running but I'm not quite there yet. Although I am doing some intervals on my walks. Love the pic from your phone! Awesome!

What a great plan! It's all about beginning those 10 minutes a day. And while you say it's not a habit yet, it's definitely a streak and that's awesome!! You'll get farther and faster sooner than you realize. Great work!

Cannondale and Olives

Sunday, May 08, 2011

I got so motivated yesterday by reading the blogs and comments of my Daisy friends and in SP.

Today, I think I had one of my healthiest days in 2011.

I made a two hour ride to Weiz, a town nearby (34 km).

I had great resistance before the workout, taking out my bike, pumping up, getting the clothing, fill up the water, and then to ride.
So I said to myself, "let's just make it until I sit in the saddle, and then I decide if I still want to go".
Then I found myself on bike road R11. First, I did just a few kms, then a bit more, then I have seen the sign "Weiz 7km". So let's get there! When back, Endomondo clocked exactly 2:00:10 on my phone. We also get the max airmiles for the Daisy team!

For dinner, I think, I made my first ever own prepared healthy meal for myself. Or maybe meal in general. It is simple, and fast, but maybe this is why I finally made it. I used the olives and tomatoes that I bought yesterday.

I have tracked all my food today, 1847 kcal (limit 1870).

The 8 glasses of water are in.

I've slept 8 hours.

Let's have a healthy week!

First daisy day (Spring 5% W1 D1)

Saturday, May 07, 2011

I got excited to read the spring challenge to loose 5% some time ago, and I am happy finally this day is here, the start.

Starting weight is 86.5 kg (190 lbs).

In the afternoon I had a great workout in the spring sun, again exploring new terrains around Gleisdorf (Austria). First a 1km walk, then a 4 km run, then a 2 km walk. I only wanted to do a 10 min run, but somehow, I got into it again.

Then a trip to Interspar, and my fridge is full with stock: green onions, radishes, tomatoes, olives, green paprika, low calories cheese, low calorie ham and sausages, 99 kcal/pot yogurt snacks and chocolate pudding snacks, low fat milk, coca cola light, fruit cocktail snacks of 50 kcal, and lots of low cal Philadelphia cream cheese, and finally a pangasius fish for the freezer.
I also populated my fruit corner of the kitchen with banana, apples, oranges, and carrots.
I even found an ice cream snack of 24 kcal/cup.

I'm still hungry. My daily calorie range tops at 1870, and I am already at 1791 kcal. So I just drink a glass of water, and better go to sleep, before I snack.

Here's a pic from my afternoon run to fit the Daisy mood!

    Great First Blog!

We are excited to have you as a daisy. I am loving that you have a "fruit corner". Populating a fruit corner sounds so much more poetic than 'refilled the fruit bowl' which is how I would have said it.

And I am envious of your finding 24kcal ice cream cups. That is a treat worthy of keeping in the freezer.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful photo. How lucky you are to be able have such scenery when you run. Good Luck to you and hope you have success with the 5% Challenge.
