I had an incredible week: an awesome long run and personal record in my 5K time.
Then Ö desserts happened. 3 days in row. I only tracked one of them. I am not proud but I felt like is deserved the treats because I worked so hard at my running. I secretly hope the scale will slap me for my indiscretions. If I did get away with it the next time I will feel like I can get away with it again. Itís a vicious cycle.

I learned a lot from this. I donít deserve unlimited desserts. I deserve a healthier relationship with food. I deserve to be off the cycle of self-sabotage. I deserve a healthy body and a strong mind. I am not tricking anyone. I have revoked my license to eat whatever I like when I committed to a healthy lifestyle. What I have now is a permit (permission) to a treat, track it, own it and enjoy it guilt free.

Fitness makes you happy. Activity is a good thing, a little extra food or extra calories gone, the choice is yours. Reduce risk for diseases cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Makes you smarter, gives your memory a boost. Setting and reaching activity goals builds confidence. Exercise has been proven to help with bone health. It will give you a more solid nightís sleep. It will help your clothes fit better as your body tones up.

Remember a little bit is all you need to get started. Do just a little to get you started. Let the lofty goals come later. Just commit to a little something this week 5 minutes, take the stairs, park further away or even take an extra lap somewhere in the house.

Diet vs lifestyle

If you donít influence the world, the world will influence you.

Diets have a beginning, middle and end Ė think for a special event like a class reunion. Beginning excitement, middle ho-hum and end the event. The diets I have tried have all failed. I know why. Some ended because the event/reason was over. More times than not I felt that I just couldnít do it anymore. These diets are so tempting it seems that people are getting fast result from the newest fads. Donít fall for it they are in that vicious diet cycle.

Lifestyle changes are very different. You start and there is no end game. You adopt habits and slowly add things that make you healthier and happier. There is a lot more mental preparation here. For me that included food prep and meal planning. You have to know that you will stumble and fall. You will be tempted to revert to old habits. It is normal to struggle but you have to hold on to the desire to be the best version of yourself every day. This is all about progress and small permanent changes. This process is painfully slow (the further you have to go the longer it will take). It is worth it. You are worth it and so am I.

Take those changes as they come, take small and purposeful steps.

    I've had people ask 'How long are you going to be on this diet?' 'How much weight are you going to lose?' 'When are you going to stop losing weight?'

They really can't get it into their heads that I AM NOT on a DIET. I try to explain the lifestyle change, but it just doesn't sink in...

I guess it's something you have to live to understand. So many friends 'diet' for a month or so before going on vacation...or on a cruise...just to gain it all back in a week or 2.

Life is a long time, and I'm tired of the YOYO mentality!

    You live those days one day at a time. They are no slower than any other days, they just SEEM that way when you want something really badly. But they do pass. If you are able to follow your plan, you'll be that many days closer to goal.
