Ooops, she didn't do it again!

Friday, August 05, 2011

I was workout challenged yesterday.

My daughter became ill and needed to see a doctor ASAP. She had fever, chills and was quite shakey. She did feel safe driving; so of course Mommy to the rescue. We were at the Urgent Care office for quite awhile. No Strep throat but Upper Chest Infection has her side-lined for a day or so.

So you say what didn't I do again? Workout!! Day before yesterday because of my OA (Ostesoarthritis in my right knee) and yesterday to help my daughter.

I had forgot how much time it takes to help someone who is really as sick as she is; its quite time consuming. She hasn't been this sick in years so I was glad I was in town and my office is just down the street from her apartment.

Though I missed those workouts, rather than beat myself for "being bad" or "time lost" instead I chose to think a different way.

I reminded myself how much, by the Grace of God, has been accomplised: eating habits healthy, weight is down, blood pressure, cholesterol, are down and my self confindence is way up!!

This is change from the past. When I use to miss a workout, I use to immediately think failure; I was no good, can't finish what I start. I was my own worst enemy.

Now with the help of God Almighty and the expert advice from SparkPeople I now see the glass half full rather than half empty and cracked!!

Be Blessed,

Dee Dee

I get to workout today!

Thursday, July 28, 2011

I get to workout today, big deal right? why yes it is! this week I was diagnosised as having osteoarithitis in both knees. I am a chronic walker and would hate to have to give it up. I found out that I don't have to! In fact, I am encourage to continue walking, strength training, and stretching to keep me limber.

I am also looking into Yoga. I recently purchased Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown. This woman is a beast when it comes to working out but I love it!! I am working still on level one but enjoying the movement and trying just a bit harder to do more each workout.

Yes, you could let a medical rob of your workouts or you can do what I did; asked my doctor lots of questions, read as much expert advice as you can stand and learn how to healthfully manage your medical condition so your quality of life will improve.

Doing less is more!

Monday, July 25, 2011

I know sounds like a oximoron but its true. We need rest between our workouts to reap there benefits.

This week I am taking the advice of a health coach and increasing the length of my workout to an hour 3 days a week and continuing to workout as least 5 days a week.

It was explained to me when we stregth train our muscels need to time to recover to prevent injury. I am all for that. I want nothing to take away those stress busting workouts. I need them and its feels so good when I am done!

Have a great day! emoticon

Eyes on the prize: how I plan to win a bet with my daughter

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

I visited my daughter yesterday. We were chatting about nothing and everything. Then I mentioned we had not visited our favorite resturant in a different city in ages. My daughter then proposed this challenge: "the first to lose 10 lbs (safely) one month from today (07/19/11) will pay for dinner at our fave place. "

I so said yes to this!! I know, sounds silly; what kinda Mom doesn't let her kid win? The kind of Mom that likes it when her 24 yr old daughter picks up the tab for a night out!! We trash talked alittle about who would win then we parted company.

Its then after I agreed to this challenge I realized, I am in the zone of a lifestyle change but now I have a serious deadline looming!! Yikes!! Then I calmed myself because I have tons of support and tips on excercise and eating on SparkPeople.

Babygirl, Mama loves you but your going down and you are so paying for my dinner. Wish me luck and share some encouragement.

Going to see your doctor is not all bad

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

I recently went in for a follow up visit to doctor's office. I have had some unusal swelling in my knees but no pain.

My blood test were normal; she checked for arthritis indicators but found none. She then sent me for an xray.

I say the news is not all bad because none the swelling in my knees has not hindered my activity level at all. It actually motivates me to do more. Initially I thought the swelling to be just my carrying extra weight in my thighs (I am a pear shape). Still on doctors advice I take care when I work out and ice down my knees and always wear my magic shoes when I workout. I call them magic because as soon as I put them on I feel like I am walking correctly for the first time all over again. (I overpronate so my daughter bought me an amazing pair of shoes to make sure I am safe with each workout)

My doctor is so helpful, she keeps me informed. My doctor makes sure I understand her directions and checks on to make sure I am doing what she ask. Doctor visits then are not all bad. I take a like of questions to ask, let her know all my symtoms and she tells what I can do in the meantime if we have to wait for test results.

It took me 2 years to find this doctor. I asked co-workers, friends, family who they saw and picked a great Internal Medicine doctor that works for me. Do your research; interview some doctors then make a decision. This person has your life in there hands, you should feel comfortable putting it there. emoticon
