Day 5 Pre Surgery

Wednesday, June 06, 2012

Hello Sparkers!

We are getting quite the thunderstorm right now, this is good, it has been too dry.

And, I don't mind because I brought a lot of "stuff" home from work today and got it in the house before the rain hit.

This is especially good, as the stuff included paper files, a large monitor, a wireless keyboard, and so on.

Yes, I have brought home from my office allt he equipment I will need to work at home.

And, I did a bit more of stocking up today, on Kashi bars. I think that will be the end of it for the stocking up.

I do have my worries about the surgery, but am managing them with self talk and as much kindness to myself that I can give myselt. I may binge, but I will not get upset if I do. I feel up for and ready for the surgery and it will go fine!

Take care, off to cook dinner, have a good one and take care if you are getting some violent weather!

I would be "scared," too Bonita. But you are very prepared and I think you will find this to be such a weight off of your shoulders when you begin the healing process.

It is hard not to let worry creep in as the time gets nearer, although the worry is actually worthless and counter productive. And yes, please remind me of this as the date for my travel approaches because I am plane phobic. I try to disappear the worrying thoughts and replace them with the positive ones. It sounds like overall you are doing a great job of this. Stay busy, and keep up your fitness program. Those are great ways to keep worries at bay.

BTW, my Body Pump teacher recently had hip replacement surgery and she is already back to teaching. Actually, right now she is on vacation in Vegas. I think her surgery was in March. That is a testament to the benefits of being fit going into the surgery.

Day 6 Pre Surgery

Tuesday, June 05, 2012

Hello Sparkfriends.

Busy day at work today, part of which was preparing to be away from the office. I've had meetings about what I needed to move ahead so i can continue work in projects at home.

I have two direct reports. I have arranged alternate methods of supervision with one and will do so for the second tomorrow.

Feeling peaceful and optimistic.

Day 7 Pre-Surgery

Monday, June 04, 2012

Good evening Sparkfriends....

I feel very optimistic about my upcoming surgery today, atta girl, Bonita, get that darned foot fixed!

More preparation today. Went grocery shopping and stocked up aon healthy non-perishables, plus some greek yogurt with a REALLY GOOD expirty date.

At work, I started packing up some hard copy material for the project I will be working on at home, not too much, I have most of what I need on line in my agency's servers which I can access at home through Citrix. I plan to take it home on Wednesday along with the computer equipment I will need.

I truly believe I will rock this event!

Day 8 pre-surgery

Sunday, June 03, 2012

Hello everyone.

Thanks all who have replied and offered encouragement.

Aside from my usual Sunday activities, including a thorough housecleaning, I have been looking into the BMR (basal metabolic rate).

Thank you Calllika for bringing this to my attention.

The basal metabolic rate gives us the number of calories we need to burn each day just to stay alive. I have calculated mine, conservatively (entered an older age and a lower weight) to be 1,146 calories. Imagine, just to stay in this world. Now, I can then calculate how many calories I need to eat each day to maintain that weight given a sedentary lifestyle (which wil be mine for a while :-)).

Again, I was surprised to see that according to this calculator I can eat 1,375 calories a day to maintain my current weight. This is a bit of a relief, certainly not a starvation diet, in fact a bit more than I am eating now to lose some weight up to the surgery.

I do not intend to sit around for two months! I will start chair exercises as soon as I can, and will be moving around the house (slowly) trying to do my regular housework.

So, a piece of good news. No need to gain from where I land on my June 10 weigh in, although I certainly will not be looking at losing during my recovery.

Have a good day everyone, take care!
