The blessings keep coming!!

Sunday, December 26, 2010

The Biblical character Jabez said in the beginning of his very short prayer in 1 Chronicles, "Oh, that You would bless me, indeed, and enlarge my territory.....". He was asking that God give him everything that He saw fit and help him use it to help others.
Since the first time I saw that prayer, I have been sincerely praying it every day and the results are amazing!!
I am not a minister by any stretch of the imagination but I feel the need to share just a few examples of what the power of this little prayer has done in my daily life.
I prayed that God would give me the power to change my lifestylle and lose weight (a lot ). I then found SparkPeople and was on my way.
Since I have gotten too small for my clothes, I literally GAVE away article of clothing I owned. People I don't even know have heard about my changes and I have recieved bags full of new clothes.
I tell anyone who is the least bit interested about SparkPeople and how they can do what I have done, by checking the site on the internet. When I was having trouble with my computer monitor and talked about buying a new flat screen, so I would be able to stay on the site. A very kind person gave me one and she said, "I just want out of my storage closet".
The latest thing happened last week when I was stalled at a plateau and really felt the need to get out walking. Unfortunately, I coldn't see trying it on ice and snow covered paths when the temperatures were near or below zero. One day I got a phone call from a lady in a small town nearby who said she had heard that I was looking for a treadmill. When I asked her how much whe was asking for it, she said she just wanted it out of her house before Christmas. She loaded it up, brought it the 30 miles to my place, helped me get it in the house, and would only take enough money from me to pay for her gas and lunch while she was in town.
So....the blessings just keep coming my way. I will keep praying the prayer of Jabez and pass along every blessing that I am able to pass!!!

I shook up my body!

Friday, November 12, 2010

After about a few weeks of very little changes, I decided it was time to shake things up a bit. Between vacation and being sick off and on my progress slowed to the point where I was feeling some frustration. So...I changed a lot of things.
The first thing I did was leave little reminders on cupboard doors, the refrigerator, etc. to think about what I was doing at meal and snack time. It is amazing what seeing my notes (in my own handwriting) does to improve my thinking!!!!
Second, I have been really missing not having free weights for my workouts. I got a pair of adjustable dumbbells and completely revamped my strength training routines. I am actually excited every morning when I get up and do my workout!!!
Last, I added short periods of jogging to my walks. In the last week, I have improved my best 5 K times twice, my knees are feeling better, and my energy level is increasing.
After only a week, I can see better muscle tone, improvement in my posture, and clothes getting baggy again. Oh! I have also lost 3 more pounds since my last weigh-in!!!
I reafirmed that I have the power to make the changes I want. I just have to DO IT!!!!

I WILL make it!!!!!

Sunday, October 31, 2010

I have had a month of not moving the scale (although I'm very pleased with all other aspects of staying healthy). Here are the reasons for the plateau (REALLY, they are excuses!!!): I went on vacation for about a week and could not cook for myself. I have had a nagging head/chest cold for about 2 1/2 weeks, which has really sapped my energy. The weather changes have kept me inside more than I have become used to.
last week I made a few changes - new weight training routine, walking a couple more times each week, and REALLY concentrated on tracking my food even more accurately. The result: When I weighed in this morning I discovered that I am down to 156 pounds!! I only have 6 more pounds to go to reach my goal of losing 170 pounds by Christmas.
As soon as I do that I will order the reward I have been promising myself for so long - a 2011 Trek bicycle!!!! Of course, by then I know the snow will be here for the winter and I can just look at it sitting in the house. LOL
Since I won't be using the bike during the winter, I have added another reward that I know I willl use. I plan to get a set of adjustable dumbbells to add variety to my weight training.
If I'm not careful, I will get healthier in the next year than I was when I played sports in high school and college!!!!!

Gregg - I agree with Dave. As boring as being on the trainer is - it is a good way to maintain over the winter. Keep doing your kettlebell workout and find other strength exercises that may help you

    Might I offer a suggestion?

Go to your local bike shop, or go on line and order a static exercise stand for your bike. I have one that Bell makes, and it only cost 149 dollars. I have already tested it out, and it works great. I plan on using it on my porch to turn my bike into a stationary bike during the winter months when it becomes to brutally cold to ride.

It keeps me from having to look at my bike with spring fever :-)

I MESSED UP - and I know better!!!!

Sunday, October 03, 2010

I'm very upset with myself! I have worked very hard to get to this point in my journey to losing weight and getting healthy. Last week I got lazy and didn't follow my plan the way I usually do. The result - put back two of the pounds I had lost!!!
I didn't track food as acurately as I should have (I ate out more often and wasn't sure of the values). I also made some stupid decisions on what to eat.
You could call my weigh-in this morning a wakeup call, and writing it down serves two purposes. It is therapy for me to get back on track and maybe it will help somebody else to avoid the trap of thinking that healthy living happens all by itself.
Anyway, the therapy session is over. I took a step back, last week is over and I can't change it. I WILL use to as a learning experience and move forward. My goal is in sight and I have all the tools to reach it. It doesn't help to beat myself up over things I can't change.
As the ads say, I'll just "DO IT"!!

Glad you are getting right back to routine
Like Barbara I did not listen to myself and I also
put back on 30 lbs it is fast to come back and so easy
to to ignore the fact that if we do not write and pay attention to our eating and get our exercise done each day
we will gain.

Glad you are doing so well now.

Half the man I used to be!

Sunday, September 26, 2010

The math was easy. I started my journey to a healthier lifestyle at 320 pounds. Today at my weekly weigh-in, the scale rested at 160!!!!! To be absolutely sure I wasn't dreaming, I weighed myself three times. It came up 160, 159.5, and 160. It is very difficult for me to grasp that I have actually cut my weight in half, but I'm calling it official since I have been very consistant on how often, time of day, and everything connected to my weigh-ins.
I am now very close to my final weight goal of being 150 pounds by Christmas 2010!!! 10 more pounds in only 2 months? Piece of cake (pun intended)!!!!!
The saying goes: "Nothing succeeds like success". It certainly has been that way for me. The more small successes I have had along the way, the more motivated it has made me. Even the steps backward can act as motivators if I keep my attitude right and learn from them.
My wish for now is that everyone on the SparkPeople site has the kind of success I have had and keep moving forward toward their goals.
