After about a few weeks of very little changes, I decided it was time to shake things up a bit. Between vacation and being sick off and on my progress slowed to the point where I was feeling some frustration. So...I changed a lot of things.
The first thing I did was leave little reminders on cupboard doors, the refrigerator, etc. to think about what I was doing at meal and snack time. It is amazing what seeing my notes (in my own handwriting) does to improve my thinking!!!!
Second, I have been really missing not having free weights for my workouts. I got a pair of adjustable dumbbells and completely revamped my strength training routines. I am actually excited every morning when I get up and do my workout!!!
Last, I added short periods of jogging to my walks. In the last week, I have improved my best 5 K times twice, my knees are feeling better, and my energy level is increasing.
After only a week, I can see better muscle tone, improvement in my posture, and clothes getting baggy again. Oh! I have also lost 3 more pounds since my last weigh-in!!!
I reafirmed that I have the power to make the changes I want. I just have to DO IT!!!!

I'm very upset with myself! I have worked very hard to get to this point in my journey to losing weight and getting healthy. Last week I got lazy and didn't follow my plan the way I usually do. The result - put back two of the pounds I had lost!!!
I didn't track food as acurately as I should have (I ate out more often and wasn't sure of the values). I also made some stupid decisions on what to eat.
You could call my weigh-in this morning a wakeup call, and writing it down serves two purposes. It is therapy for me to get back on track and maybe it will help somebody else to avoid the trap of thinking that healthy living happens all by itself.
Anyway, the therapy session is over. I took a step back, last week is over and I can't change it. I WILL use to as a learning experience and move forward. My goal is in sight and I have all the tools to reach it. It doesn't help to beat myself up over things I can't change.
As the ads say, I'll just "DO IT"!!

The math was easy. I started my journey to a healthier lifestyle at 320 pounds. Today at my weekly weigh-in, the scale rested at 160!!!!! To be absolutely sure I wasn't dreaming, I weighed myself three times. It came up 160, 159.5, and 160. It is very difficult for me to grasp that I have actually cut my weight in half, but I'm calling it official since I have been very consistant on how often, time of day, and everything connected to my weigh-ins.
I am now very close to my final weight goal of being 150 pounds by Christmas 2010!!! 10 more pounds in only 2 months? Piece of cake (pun intended)!!!!!
The saying goes: "Nothing succeeds like success". It certainly has been that way for me. The more small successes I have had along the way, the more motivated it has made me. Even the steps backward can act as motivators if I keep my attitude right and learn from them.
My wish for now is that everyone on the SparkPeople site has the kind of success I have had and keep moving forward toward their goals.

I have recently had some very nice things happen to me as a result of my continuing journey to becoming healthier. I decided to write them down as a reminder (mostly to myself) of what can be accomplished with a little work, and a lot of concistancy.
Fisrt, I continue to lose pounds and inches. The only down side to that is that I am always in need of different clothes that fit!! LOL The clothes I was given a few weeks ago by a person I hardly knew, was a great gift. Unfortunately, they are almost too large now. I guess I will donate them to charity like I did with my other clothes.
My strength, energy, and stamina are increasing and my times to walk the same distance are getting less on a regular basis. I have learned to schedule other things around my workouts, rather than hoping I can fit the workouts in as I did when I started.
I am inspiring friends, relatives, and total strangers to embark on their own healthy lifestyle journeys. I have had people come to the clinic where I work just to ask me about SparkPeople and see what it has done for me!!!!
I have learned how to make use of one of my favorite hobbies, cooking. My food choices are getting better all the time, and I am finding new ways to make very healthy (and delicious) meals.
I can honestly say that the last 6 months have been soem of the best of my life, and I have NO plans to ever look back to my old lifestyle for anything other than a bad example.
