On May 10, 2009 I started my journey with SparkPeople, searching for a way to finally lose weight. Now, 11 months later, I have lost 117 pounds, reduced pants size by 14 inches, and wear shirts without a big X (or several X's) attached to the size! The biggest question I hear now - and ask myself -is "How did this happen?"
My friends, coworkers , and certainly my Doctors are absolutely amazed! Their amazement is only exceeded by my own.
My energy has increases greatly, I have had my medications for blood sugar and blood pressure cut in half, and except for a recent knee injury while working out, my mobility is dramatically better. I am actually looking forward to my next scheduled lab work (later this week) to see how much more of the medications I can get rid of!!!
I feel like an advertisement for SP, goal setting, smart eating and exercise habits, and personal commitment. I will tell anyone who asks all about what I am doing and have done. I make an effort every day to spread the Spark.
And talk about comments!!! I get compliments from people I don't even know, but must have met along the way, about how I have changed.
My friends joke that if I was in one of those weight loss ads on TV, they would have to put the disclaimer "results not typical" at the bottom of the screen. While I still consider myself a work in progress, and what I have accomplished might be amazing to some, it just shows that with the right mind set, great tools to build on ( like "The Spark" and SparkPeople), and the true desire to make changes, we can all reach our goals.
"Results Not Typical"? Perhaps. "Results DOABLE"? ABSOLUTELY!

I think I'm having fittness withdrawl!!!!! The only workout I have had since Saturday is getting around with the help of the borrowed walker I am using after injuring my knee (while working out).
I can't get onto my exercise machine or ride my recumbent bike, so I have resorted to isometrics and resistant bands for upper body. That is better than nothing but FAR from what I am used to.
I did get in to see my orthopedic surgeon yesterday and found no further damage to the bones in the knee. Just soft tissue inflamation and fluid. So after having it drained and a cortizone injection, I'm back home hoping it will heal quickly.
It does bend a little more today and I finally got some sleep last night. But I still can't put any weight on the leg, so I have a ways to go yet.
I would like to thank everyone who has given me so much support and encouragement. It means a lot to me knowing you are out there and so willing to help!!

I started my weekend with great expectations for a wonderful Easter weekend. That came to a very sudden stop during my usual morning workout!! As I was doing my lsat set of knee bends, I heard (and really felt) something pop in my right knee!! The pain was brief but very intense.
By noon, it was very swelled and the pain was so bad that I would not put any weight on my right side. late afternoon I got a ride to the ER where got a shot and some pills for pain and the wonderful advice that I should see my orthopedic Dr. on Monday.
So, using a borrowed walker as crutches, I hobbled around home all day Sunday and am now waiting for the clinic to open so I can call and see when I can be seen.
This may just move up the time frame on the replacement surgery that I was planning for this summer. Hopefully I will find out more later today.

I finally got the new pants I had ordered (and had to exchange for smaller ones ) last week. They are just a little snug, but work fine. I don't mind the fit because I know they won't be snug for long. After all, they are size 34 waste!! 10 1/2 months ago I was squeezing into size 48!!! Shirts are a very comfortable XL now instead of the XXXL of old!
Today's weigh-in showed a loss of another 4 pounds (now a total of 108).
The positive comments just keep on coming!! When people see me, I hear comments like "you look great" or "you have lost a LOT of weight", and the same question always comes up - "What are you doing?"
I am not writing this to brag. I am so amazed at what has happened that I needed to put it down and read it myself!! LOL
I guess I am living proof that with the great resources and people associated with SP, anyone can make the changes they are looking for.

First things, first - I just had my weekly weighin. The scale didn't move this week! But, I'm still happy. I am still on my average of 2 to 3 pounds a week and I'm still shrinking.
That brings me to my big prize. I badly needed to find a new winter jacket, since all of mine are way too big for me. I had a bag of old clothes to take to the thrift store for a donation yesterday. While I was there I decided to look for a jacket. What a find!! There on the rack was a perfect leather jacket just waiting for a home. I saw only two problems. One, it was a size large (which I haven't worn since I was in high school - a looong time ago) and two, I was expecting it to be out of my budget, even at thrift store prices, since it was in very good condition.
When I checked the price and found it was only $18.00, I was sure it wouldn't fit. That would be too good to be true. As soon as I tried it on, it was mine!!!! It fits perfectly.
The unexpected price was when I got it home and felt a a round object in the bottom inside the lining. With some searching I found a small opening in the stitching on the inside of one of the pockets. When I finally got it moved up and out of the lining, I found a very nice (and expensive) Cross pen!! And it still writes.
With that lucky find, I'm guessing my jacket was a freebie. Should have bought a lottery ticket!!
