On My Way

Friday, July 22, 2011

Today I weighed in at 173.8 lbs. When I joined Spark back in June, I had estimated my weight at 175. When I actually weighed myself 3 weeks later, after exercising and eating much better, I weighed 178. It really got me down for a couple of days, and I felt like I would never even see the 160's, much less a goal of 135!!!

Today I really feel like I am finally on my way as I look at my ticker which has a current weight that is LESS than my starting. It feels good and I know that I would not have been able to do it without the help of Spark People.

Particularly Tara (TAW196) and the AWESOME July w/ Jillian Challenge she created, the WONDERFUL team I am on - the Rock Stars -, and the individual friendships that have grown from that team.

I truly appreciate this resource, and the time and effort everyone puts into it. It would just be another ineffective calorie counting, blah message board site if it wasn't for the people on here and their feisty, winning spirit!

Thanks everyone! I feel like I've finally made it from the gate to the plane, and I'm lifting off!

Bread - my arch nemesis

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

I did REALLY well today. Had a lunch meeting and ordered a delicious salad, ate good snacks, was within all my nutrition ranges, plenty of veggies/fruits... and then I ate 3 pieces of rye toast with a tbsp of margarine, at 9 o'clock at night.

WHY????? I feel so gross now. And it's bedtime. Which means all of this is going to just convert into sugar, and then fat.

Dang it! Ugh - I erased an hour of exercising today with TOAST!

I am with you... bread is my crack! I seem to crave carbs at night too... and sadly they fill me up the best. I will never be a person who cuts it out of my life completely, I have no desire to. But what I DO hope is I can train myself to take ONE items out of the bread basket at a restaurant and not be salivating over a second!!!

oh man I love bread. especially rye/ time think about if you NEED it or if you can live without it. Is it helping you reach your goals, or hurting you.

Thanks for all the encouragement and advice. I had a good cardio workout at the gym just now and when I get home I'm going to do 6W6P, so at least I'm still working out.

I honestly don't think I was easting emotionally or anything. I was just thinking about how good a nice slice of toast would be, and then before I knew it I'd eaten three. It just sounded delicious and I wanted it! :-/

I've never been a great example of will power but I'm making progress. For instance, last night AND the night before FH had wine, and I did not partake!

Slow and steady wins the race!

Don't get discouraged over it. Just figure out what triggered your impulse and try to remedy it the next day. emoticon

a slice of rye is only like 60 calories. so that's not even that much!! you could have done way worse, try not to stress about it! I'm a total carb junkie myself, and always crave bread pasta or taco bell lol. doing a work out the next day usually makes me feel better after a slip up emoticon

Was it the day? I did the same thing- but my bread was fresh semolina that I bought "for my girls" - who really do love it. But they didn't need it either and WHY did I do that at 8 pm?

I've been totally struggling with cravings too. I think its my hormones. I listened to an interview with Bob and Jillian where they talked about how a piece of pizza = 1hr in the gym. SUCKS! At least you canceled the toast out by working out. It could have been worse. Tomorrow is another day!

Recipe! Open Face Mushroom & Swiss Egg White Melt

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

Hi guys! I've posted my first spark recipe - Yay!

I like to eat a filling breakfast since I workout before hand and am usually ravenous by 10:30 a.m. This breakfast is not huge but sticks to your ribs! It's also great as an easy, light dinner.

Check it out -

Looks delicious! I am going to have to try that today for lunch! I've got an open container of mushrooms at home though I think I might have to make it into a taco, because I'm out of bread!

One way for Lisa to end up on Youtube

Monday, July 11, 2011

On recommendation from fellow Sparkly Sparkette LSPIZZA I started cardio intervals today. It felt great! I warmed up on the Stair Master for 10 minutes just because I haven't been on one in years (and I really want to tone my calves - they have cellulite on them!! :-s), then I headed for the treadmill.

The machine had an interval program, but it only varied the incline, so I had to manually adjust the speed. I am pretty slow, so I chose a baseline of 3.5. Then I went up .5 in speed for every interval. I started with a 1:1 pace, because it was easier to keep up with and I figured it was a good place to start.

I lasted for 25 minutes - man was I SWEATING! I got up to 7.5. I think if I had gone any further I would have been the next viral treadmill face-plant-youtube video!!! So I started working my way back down and stopped at 25 minutes for my cool down.

According to my heart rate monitor I burned 300 + calories, plus another 200 this morning doing Jillian. Yay! 500 deficit from exercise alone! Love it :-)

Way to go, Lisa! 7.5! Awesome. Months - maybe more than a year for me to get there. You go girl! You are so young and in shape! And you sound like my Emily - my oldest. I have cellulite, she says. 90% of women have cellulite! Who cares. You are fit and strong.

Get Your D & E

Monday, July 11, 2011

It's gotta be the way you eat AND the way you move! Eating healthy is important, but without being active you can't really enjoy all the benefits of your healthy eating. And consistent exercise helps you stay on track if/when you're caving to foods that aren't good for you.

This happened to me over the weekend. I had 1 margarita on Saturday, and 1 on Sunday. Usually I would have 2 or 3. This is a big deal for me because I wasn't torturing myself. I just really only wanted 1 because I knew it would affect my ability to feel good for the rest of the day and have a good work out the next morning.

Bottom Line Translation: I HAPPILY chose EXERCISE over MARGARITAS! WOW!!!!

And of course if you are exercising your body is going to crave the vitamins, minerals, fiber, energy - everything it needs to power your body. It isn't going to want chicken alfredo everyday if you're doing it right.
