Sometimes you feel...BLAM!!!

Friday, January 11, 2008

Sometimes you just feel like you've hit a brick wall...that all your momentum has flown south for the winter, like the birds (actually they fly to FL, which means they're here...). I haved eyed this wall quite warily for a few months, and only recently decided to just hit the damn thing and get it over with...OUCH, that hurt, now let's move on....

Dealing with three rather largish issues...

1. National Board for Professional Teaching Standards....hellish amount of work on top of regular teaching, planning, grading (wash, rinse, repeat...what it feels like)...videotaping is a nightmare (I think my camera adds 50 pounds...), my writing is wooden, and I feel like the last four months, I have just read and reread the standards over and over (wash, rinse, repeat)...in a rut...

2. A sick, now dead, computer at work...unfortunately, this sick computer sucked out nearly an entire semester of lesson plans which I have to rewrite (and this time...hard copies)...it has corrupted my grades, nearly erased my website, and simply been an agent of mayhem since I moved to the room in which, until recently, it resided...but it's gone now, so Hallelujah!!! Now to deal with the aftermath.....

3. USCIS (also called Immigration)...I never knew there was a part of the government that had more red tape than education...boy, was I wrong...these guys take the cake, hands down! I am starting the process to reunite with my BF, who is English; I am soon to be in a 6 month to possibly 2 year process of endless forms, interviews, and documentation collecting...Immigration sucks the spontaneous romance out of a relationship, let me tell you...But God bless my BF, he still tries to be romantic. It's just a shame that doing this the right way, the LEGAL way, is such a headache...but he's worth every Advil...

And all of this while still trying to lose the last 60 of 140 pounds...makes my head spin sometimes...GET ME OFF THIS TILT-A-WHIRL!!!

But, as I said, now that I have hit the wall, I can let myself just get on with it!!!

I'm sorry, Dawn. For some reason, I only just saw this blog. :-( I'm sorry you're having all these headaches, and I'm amazed that you manage to seem so serene. (Are you a duck? :-) Well, I hope you're able to get past these hurdles with a minimum of stress and aggravation. And kudos to you for not turning to food to relieve your anxiety. ((hugs))

Sometimes you have to keep hitting the wall to get through it. A little perseverance and that bottle of Advil will get you through. Keep faith.

Good luck with everything that you're going through right now. Fortunitly, it will all pass and things will calm down for you, hopefully.
Take care,
Michelle

Yikes! What a mess! Great attitude though; hit that wall and move on. I hope it all works out (hopefully in the 6 month range and not the 2 years!) and that things get better. I'll be pulling for you!

I'd love to move to England, but no, he is coming here...we've been talking about dual citizenship for each of us, easier to go back and forth since his parent live there...

Oh, its so nice to see a blog from you:) I can't believe all the crap you are dealing with!!!! I can't even imagine losing all that work. We don't have boards here, I was also lucky enough to get my certification before the praxis so I feel for you! So are you becoming a citizen and moving or is he? Congrats either way!!!!

Wow you have a lot on your plate! Hopefully things will start to look up for you and especially for you and your bf! A co-worker of mine is from the Dominican Republic and he has gone through so much and spent so much money on trying to be a citizen the legal way it's just crazy. Hang in there and remember what doesn't kill you makes you stronger! *hugs*

What REALLY makes me dance...

Sunday, September 02, 2007

I have written about a disasterous trip to the pub and what it did to me....I had lost some weight from my 270 and was talking to a guy I had a crush on...well, to make a long story short, he looked like a trapped animal trying to eat off a paw to get away from me...

Fast forward 7 months....

Went to the pub, and many people didn't even recognise me...

Didn't drink, ate sensibly (instead of the fried sausages or the fish and chips that I would have usually gotten), and drank water all night...I think I have morphed into a (gasp) HEALTHY PERSON. And I only had slight pangs at not being able to eat whatever I wanted on the menu...maybe by next time, I won't even have those!

And another thing, my "hangover" on the barstool is almost gone....

WOO HOO!!! (Does the "happy dance" and causes cats to run in fright)

Something I always knew

Sunday, September 02, 2007

I just read on the above article, that caffeine should be a no-no before exercise. I myself have gotten off the "sauce" about 9 months ago, but it still concerns my that my high schoolers (especially my athletes) are addicted to it.

They drink coffee in the morning, bring sodas for their lunch (diet, they think that's okay), and the energy drinks (Red Bull and the like) all day long. I try to tell them that it is not good for them and that it is more than likely being a hindrance rather than a help in their performance both physically and mentally, but, being teenagers, they rarely listen.

For my athletes, I am sorely tempted to go to their coaches and tell them what's going on...Maybe instead of films one Saturday, they can have a quick lesson on the dangers of this type of behaviour.

I worry about my kids, and I want them to make the right decisions....

I can understand your worry! So many kids have way too much caffeine on a regular basis - It can't be good for them!

First Official Week Back....

Thursday, August 16, 2007

I am almost finished with pre-planning for the new school year...what fun...

On another note...I HAVE THE WILLPOWER OF THE GODS...

Monday, our PTSA had a welcome back breakfast...eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, and pancakes. I had already eaten breakfast (Kashi cereal) so I just picked up a cup of orange juice and watched everyone eat. The group that I work with wanted to go to Wendy's...instead of getting a burger and fries, I got a grilled chicken sandwich honey mustard on the side with a side salad and used some low cal dressing I had in my small fridge at work. At my night school meeting, they had free food...pizza...I planned ahead and took some apples and grapes and ate that while everyone ate sausage/pepperoni extra cheese pizza...

I AM WOMAN...HEAR ME ROAR!!!!

meow.....

Going back to work, sort of...

Sunday, July 29, 2007

Well, tomorrow I'm going back to work....

I am volunteering at my school's media center for textbook checkout. The teacher don't officially go back in until two weeks from tomorrow. I like working there; it's nice to meet some of my students for the upcoming year in a less threatening environment. Plus, I might get to know where my new classroom is for the upcoming year (and maybe get to do some moving and setting up too!).

All in all, I'm getting started for a great year!!!
