Back to normal...

Tuesday, December 04, 2012

So many changes lately. Our son was born six weeks ago, and he is AWESOME. He's a really easy baby so far and a great sleeper. He woke up only once last night, and that's about average for him. So different from my daughter, who woke up 3 or 4 time a night until she was about 8 or 9 months old. Here's a picture of him, isn't he cute?!

And I can't post a picture of him without posting one of my daughter too. I'm so proud of her, she amazes me every day.

My wife joined Spark last week, her username is HILLARYLANE, stop by her page and welcome her to SparkPeople! We're done having kids now and she's ready to take off the pregnancy weight. Our original plan was to start fresh on SP in January. But she decided she was ready to start now! No use throwing away the entire month just because it's hard to eat well around Christmas. So proud of her, she is rocking it so far.

I had six weeks paternity leave at home with the family, awesome, huh? It came and went so fast though, and now I'm back at work and missing my family SO MUCH. So far the transition has been good, my wife is doing great with both kids at home, and it is nice to get back to our normal routine.

OK, confession time. I gained weight after the new baby was born. I got down to 186 and started trying to maintain in the weeks before he was born. Then he came and I started eating like crap. Lots of junk food, halloween candy, fast food, larger than necessary portions, beer, Thanksgiving binge, stopped exercising regularly, etc... You know the story. So when I weighed in to start back last week, I was 194. That's 8 pounds up in as many weeks. I just can't believe how fast I let it slide.

I hope I can get it back in gear soon, because I'm finding it really difficult to get back on the train. I lost 3 pounds week one, but I've made some questionable eating decisions in the last two days, and I'm just having trouble mentally committing. So this is kind of my personal call-out, in front of all of you. I will do better and finish the week strong. I think I'll bring my workout clothes to work tomorrow and get on the treadmill during lunch. I really need to get back running again.

That's all for now. Words of encouragement and advice appreciated.

Super cute kids! I know you will get back into the swing of things. My advice is to make little changes. It can become overwhelming quickly, but don't despair. Just keep doing what you can and have faith. You've been here before so you should know that it's possible. Also, give yourself adequate time and don't get down on yourself when you eat the wrong things. You've got this!

You can totally get out your kick butt mental attitude back out and rock it !!
You did it before and this time you will come back even stronger.
That was so awesome of your job to give you all that time to bond with your family. What a blessing!! And what a beauitful family you have , your children are just precious. Holidays wouldn't be fun holidays without the treats. If you ask me I think you did pretty good. 8 lbs no problem !! YOu got this !! emoticon
Just set up your plan, make out your mission statement and each day is a new day. Bring them workout clothes and force yourself back on that treadmill and in no time it will all kick in. It must be so cool to have your wife along side of you doing this together!! That's the best part so rock on and good luck to you both !! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Really adorable kids and you sound like a wonderful Dad. Motivation?? Look at those beautiful faces and tell yourself you want to be a great grandpa some day. I've slipped over a long summer vacation and it is amazing how fast it comes back when there is too much input and not enough output. I'm back on track now especially with my exercise. It sounds like you have a good plan too. I wish you well in getting back up to speed.

Cool profile pic! Understandable that you weren't really concentrating on fitness/diet for a few weeks : ) We've all had that much of a weight relapse, don't sweat it. You'll be back on stride in no time, especially with your DW onside with you. Best wishes to both of you for renewed success in your health/fitness/weight loss journeys!

Your children are darling! Congratulations on the new baby.
I'm sure you and your wife can reach your goals. It sounds like you have an awesome support team in each other, plus you have Sparkers to cheer you on too! Besides, you're going to need all the energy you can get to chase around two little ones once he gets mobile. emoticon

Beer is so evil! I miss it T..T There is a lot of cute going on in this blog. I think it's awesome that your work let you get time off to spend with the new baby. I've never heard of paternity leave before, but It's really cool that you were able to do that.

One more hard month to get through... then even the most remote aquaintances will be all gung-ho about fitness with new year's resolutions! I think it will definitely get easier then.. if we can all manage to make it through December!

I have 1000% faith in you. I've watched you kick your own ass all year long and I know you are going to finish on a strong note. You are a rockstar at everything you put your mind to-- being a husband, parenting, music, losing weight- and I'm so proud of how far you have come in 2012. You totally inspire me.

But it was really fun to binge on Halloween candy with you. ;)

6 weeks until life changes, again.

Tuesday, September 04, 2012

Some of you may know this, some may not, but my wife is 34 weeks pregnant, which means our baby is due to be born in 6 weeks. Our first came a week early, so who knows when our new little guy will come. Soon. We are really excited and really terrified. Having an infant, especially a newborn, is ridiculous. You get next to no sleep for months and months and everything is just a fog. Needless to say, I am concerned about what this will do to my weight. You really have to get into survival mode for a while, and things like eating healthy, well-balanced meals go out the window pretty quickly.

I am still 9 or 10 pounds from my ultimate goal, but I am going to change my SP goal to maintenance and get used to what that range is like for the next six weeks. If I can get through the next several months without gaining, it will be a success. I just know when our baby is born I won't have much energy for tracking what I'm eating, so I want to have a good routine in place to fall back on.

After the holidays, around the first of the year, my wife is going to join SP and get to work taking off the baby weight. She's so excited to lose the weight and get in shape with me. She's watched me get smaller and smaller this year while she gets bigger and bigger. It's been hard on her to sit on the sidelines and watch. But this is the last baby we're going to have, so she's ready to lose the baby weight and get into super mom shape! It will be fun to have her on SP with me.

Hopefully we'll have found our feet by the beginning of 2013 and I can get back to work too. I want to continue to cut my body fat percentage, it's about 22% right now I think. I'm planning to continue running all year, I just love it so much. And I have a feeling it'll be a welcome stress reliever when we have a screaming infant at home.

Congratulations and best wishes for you all - such exciting news.

One suggestion I would make (don't know how practical it is in your circumstances etc) is walking - walk the baby in the buggy - it's a great way to lose excess weight and it's gentle but effective, as well as free/low cost. I hope my suggestion is helpful - feel welcome to check my spark page out etc and see how it's worked/is working for me

So exciting for the both of you. Can't wait to hear about his arrival into his new marvulous life with your family.
Your first step was to realize all of this ahead of time, putting it out in a plan. Knowing from your first child what to expect and now with your new healthy fit life style , you will be able to put it all in action the way you like. Your in control now. Just plan ahead with meals too helping out your wife cooking that will help. And doing what you mentioned having the running as your YOU time. Stress reliever. Then take turns letting your wife have her time. It will all work out. It's the sleeping part thats rough and making time for your daughter as well. Keeping her happy. But your such great parents it's going to be wonderful. Your both so blessed with this miracle of life. As your son grows up your healthier fit daddy that you are now will be able to keep up with him , play sports. This is so exciting and your wife will be able to join sparkpeople too. WE'll all be here for you both. If she wants to add me as a friend I'll be really glad to help motivate her reach her goals.
Remember enjoy the moments, don't stress out ahead. You got this !!!!
Keep up the awesome running my friend.

My baby girl will be 6 months old in 4 days. It's gone by so fast. I still feel sleep deprived even though I average about 6 hours a night(I have 2 boys as well). My advice is to make time for you, but be there for your wife b/c she'll need breaks too. Having a baby is a lot of work, but such a blessing too. I like that you've set up a plan. I hope it works out for you. Congratulations! emoticon

GOOD STUFF. We raised 5 sons and now that we are emptynesters, I just wish they would call us every day. Of course they are living their life and I remember that I did not call my folks often enough either.

Cherish them. Your new baby will grow up so fast, Now you can hold them in the palm of your hand, a few months later, they are asking tor the keys to the car.

60 Pounds Gone

Monday, July 30, 2012

Today I weighed in at 188, which means I've officially lost more than 60 pounds since joining SparkPeople at the beginning of this year. I can't believe how far I've come and that it's almost August and I'm still going strong! I've never been able to accomplish so much, and I want to thank each and every one of my SparkFriends for keeping me motivated and inspired with your comments, goodies, status updates, and blogs. I come here every day and read what you all are doing and it keeps me on track and moving forward.

I'm so happy and so grateful for all of you here.

Way to go! You place the credit with SparkFriends, but remember that YOU are the one making these changes for yourself. There are plenty of people in here who are active and involved, yet still not able/willing to make the kinds of changes you have made to lose the weight.

Monday, April 09, 2012

Today I stepped on the scale for my weekly weigh-in and I weighed 209 pounds. That's 40 pounds lighter than I was when I started here at SparkPeople, just about three months ago.

Thank you to all of the friends that have helped and inspired me along the way.

FORTY POUNDS, gone forever. Fifty, here I come.
