So many changes lately. Our son was born six weeks ago, and he is AWESOME. He's a really easy baby so far and a great sleeper. He woke up only once last night, and that's about average for him. So different from my daughter, who woke up 3 or 4 time a night until she was about 8 or 9 months old. Here's a picture of him, isn't he cute?!
And I can't post a picture of him without posting one of my daughter too. I'm so proud of her, she amazes me every day.
My wife joined Spark last week, her username is HILLARYLANE, stop by her page and welcome her to SparkPeople! We're done having kids now and she's ready to take off the pregnancy weight. Our original plan was to start fresh on SP in January. But she decided she was ready to start now! No use throwing away the entire month just because it's hard to eat well around Christmas. So proud of her, she is rocking it so far.
I had six weeks paternity leave at home with the family, awesome, huh? It came and went so fast though, and now I'm back at work and missing my family SO MUCH. So far the transition has been good, my wife is doing great with both kids at home, and it is nice to get back to our normal routine.
OK, confession time. I gained weight after the new baby was born. I got down to 186 and started trying to maintain in the weeks before he was born. Then he came and I started eating like crap. Lots of junk food, halloween candy, fast food, larger than necessary portions, beer, Thanksgiving binge, stopped exercising regularly, etc... You know the story. So when I weighed in to start back last week, I was 194. That's 8 pounds up in as many weeks. I just can't believe how fast I let it slide.
I hope I can get it back in gear soon, because I'm finding it really difficult to get back on the train. I lost 3 pounds week one, but I've made some questionable eating decisions in the last two days, and I'm just having trouble mentally committing. So this is kind of my personal call-out, in front of all of you. I will do better and finish the week strong. I think I'll bring my workout clothes to work tomorrow and get on the treadmill during lunch. I really need to get back running again.
That's all for now. Words of encouragement and advice appreciated.

Some of you may know this, some may not, but my wife is 34 weeks pregnant, which means our baby is due to be born in 6 weeks. Our first came a week early, so who knows when our new little guy will come. Soon. We are really excited and really terrified. Having an infant, especially a newborn, is ridiculous. You get next to no sleep for months and months and everything is just a fog. Needless to say, I am concerned about what this will do to my weight. You really have to get into survival mode for a while, and things like eating healthy, well-balanced meals go out the window pretty quickly.
I am still 9 or 10 pounds from my ultimate goal, but I am going to change my SP goal to maintenance and get used to what that range is like for the next six weeks. If I can get through the next several months without gaining, it will be a success. I just know when our baby is born I won't have much energy for tracking what I'm eating, so I want to have a good routine in place to fall back on.
After the holidays, around the first of the year, my wife is going to join SP and get to work taking off the baby weight. She's so excited to lose the weight and get in shape with me. She's watched me get smaller and smaller this year while she gets bigger and bigger. It's been hard on her to sit on the sidelines and watch. But this is the last baby we're going to have, so she's ready to lose the baby weight and get into super mom shape! It will be fun to have her on SP with me.
Hopefully we'll have found our feet by the beginning of 2013 and I can get back to work too. I want to continue to cut my body fat percentage, it's about 22% right now I think. I'm planning to continue running all year, I just love it so much. And I have a feeling it'll be a welcome stress reliever when we have a screaming infant at home.

Today I weighed in at 188, which means I've officially lost more than 60 pounds since joining SparkPeople at the beginning of this year. I can't believe how far I've come and that it's almost August and I'm still going strong! I've never been able to accomplish so much, and I want to thank each and every one of my SparkFriends for keeping me motivated and inspired with your comments, goodies, status updates, and blogs. I come here every day and read what you all are doing and it keeps me on track and moving forward.
I'm so happy and so grateful for all of you here.
