Reignite the Spark!

Friday, March 21, 2008

We're kicking off a new project here at SparkPeople and as an active member of the community your help is vitally important to its success. We're calling it Reignite the Spark and the goal is to strengthen the connections that you've made with other members and to provide encouragement for members that might be having trouble. We want everyone to know that our community is so strong and positive that even if you don't explicitly ask for help, the SparkPeople community is going to reach out and offer a kind word or motivational thought. We want everyone to know that is not just a free weight loss website; itís a global movement of people taking control of their health and helping others do the same.

As an active member of SparkPeople you have probably supported or received support from a lot of members. (If you haven't had a chance to connect with any other members then learn why our community improves your likelihood of success .) However, sometimes you lose touch with members that you've created friendships with. Therefore, we're asking every member to reach out to SparkFriends that you've lost contact with and see how their doing.

If you're going to reach out to old friends then it might help if you look over the some of your personal archives to figure out who you've lost touch with. (you'll need to be logged in for these links to work). You can do this by going through your old sent SparkMails or by visiting your Recent Message Board History .

If you've stayed in contact with all of your friends or you'd just like to reach out to a few other members that might need a helping hand, then we'd suggest browsing SparkPages to see who hasn't updated their page in a while.

Once you identify who you'd like to reach out to, the best ways to connect with them are to send a SparkMail or a SparkGoodie , or you can write a comment on their SparkPage or recent blog posts .

The key is that you do something let them know that you want to see them succeed (heck maybe they're doing great, but you've just lost touch with them).

Sound like a Great Idea to Spread the Spark,
I have a few friends that have kinda disappeared.
I'll send them a quick note to see if they are still

Thanks Spark Friend,

How did you do on Thanksgiving?

Monday, November 26, 2007

Did you eat too many calories this Thanksgiving? If so, did you plan on letting yourself splurge? Does anyone have any tips or tricks for avoiding these pitfalls?

I did well on Thanksgiving, but then started eating way too much garbage when I started back to work the next Monday. I decided to hit SP hard for the holiday season, and have been exercising every day since Friday (not long yet), and have carefully watched every last thing I've eaten. It has really helped, and I went from 147 on Friday to 139 today-Monday. I want to see how far I can go during the Christmas season. How about you?

Spring is in the air

Tuesday, April 03, 2007

We've had some very nice weather in Cincy recently, however that will be ending fairly soon (at least for the next week). I always try to take full advantage of really nice weather by getting outside and getting as active as possible. A few of my favorite things to do on nice days are:

Tennis- by far my best/favorite sport and something that I plan to be able to do for the next 50 years.

Rollerblading- I've taken to a 5 mile trail in Lunken Park that is a decent challenge. I normally try to finish it in about 25 minutes. I have some very innovative rollerblades called "Land Rollers" with 2 huge wheels on each boot.

Hikes- A nearby park, Ault Park, has a great network of trails that I love running or hiking with my friends or girlfriend.

Strength training- fun to do yoga or body weight strength training on a sunny day in the park

Soccer/Football- Also a fun thing to do in the park with a couple other people.

Running- I haven't been doing much of this recently but I know I'll get back into it soon.

Basketball- we have a court next to my house or I visit campus for a really tough game with some old college friends.

What type of activity do you prefer when its 72 degrees and sunny?

Spring has just hit Boulder, too. Yesterday, we celebrated by doing a hilly 5 mile bike ride over what was 2 feet of snow a few weeks ago. And today, we hit the driving range to practice our chip shots and drives. Time to get fit again--- we'll build it into our corporate schedule. The beauty of a small biz is that you have that kind of flexibility. But you also have the option to work all the time-- also a risk.
