Plan for 2013

Some are new, some are to renew, some are to continue....Top 10 for the new and improved me!
1. Purchase (finally!) and use a kitchen scale ... More often than the bathroom scale!
2. Minimum of 5 freggies each day
3. Get at least 7 hours of sleep each night... Or at least try for this by using wise sleep prep strategies.
4. Exercise daily... I'm just a few days from completing 50 workouts in 50 days so I think this 'habit' may stick!
5. Laugh often... With grandkids, dh, others ,including Spark friends, funny t.v., movies, books and such.
6. Volunteer in established and new areas including church, civic groups, women's group, scholarship committee, shelter, etc...3-5 times per week.
7. Read good books, blogs, articles daily.
8. Write blogs, letters, articles, books... Pen to paper, fingers to keys 5 days per week.
9. Drink 8+ cups of something each day... Water, tea, coffee, broth, milk...
10. Pray without ceasing... That my life is a prayer offered in every way, in every activity, every goal, every achievement, every effort, every word and thought, moment by moment, day by day, that I may in some small way be a blessing and an encouragement to those along my path.

Holiday Adventure

For many years i'veencouraged newlyweds to enjoy their adventure. But, sometimes I forget to remind myself that each day is an important adventure onits own that will become a page in my life story. Right now we are in the midst of holiday adventures. Whether this day includes time in the gym, a walk past holiday windows, scrubbing floors, writing cards, or anything else, it still makes for an interesting adventure. Seeing hard things in a similar way to the fun things keeps my mind headed in the direction I truly wany my life story to unfold.     You are so right and in this Christmas season we never know what the day will bring. Tow times recently I received gift from strangers that made my day different from the expected. Once when DD and I were traveling we stopped for a Starbucks Latte and when we were to pay the cashier said an annomynous person had left a gift certificate for $300.00 for her to use to treat the next customers until the gift ran out. The other was that a lady in front of me paid for my Latte as a surprise. You just never know what the day will bring. Hope you have a good one! emoticon

On my way to 50 days!

I'm in the middle of a 50 workouts in 50 days challenge. I did miss one day and did very little on a couple when sick, but being on about day 28 has brought me to a good place. Just remembering I will need to log it encourages me do something. I love that there are so many different challenges here. There is definitely something for each of us... Perhaps many somethings. Corn muffins and Coconut

I was asked to bring corn muffins to a dinner party this week. I made the mistake of bringing home the leftovers. I must be very careful to limit that treat, but I am enjoying each bite. For extra fiber I have an ounce of dry coconut almost every day. These special treats make me smile. I do save them for after some exercise. Too much deprivation at this time of year only leads me to bigger 'sins'. I plan my treats so they fit into my calorie plan and so far they have fit just fine. Do you plan treats or do you have another method of navigating this food laden time of year?

    A small banana, raisins, carrots, a few nuts or a dark chocolate kiss are part of my snack treats.

    I write down everything I eat and drink (with calories) and have never gone over 1500 calories, usually between 800 to 1200 calories.

    I try to work my sweets in with my tracking, and have been pretty successful so far this month, but of course, the month is still young, actually I did ook in November also, just no weight loss.

    One tip that I got on this website was to wait 10 minutes before eating a treat....to make sure I really want it.....sometimes this helps...other times it doesn't....but it always makes me stop and think before I eat it.......tale care and emoticon

The middle of the muddle

Though I'm not much of a jogger due to knee, back and balance issues, I think this time of year many of us are on that never ending treadmill. I find myself putting too many things on hold while not accomplishing nearly enough on my to do list. The stress of never quite keeping up with all the healthy things I want in my life, while putting too much focus on details that don't matter...eventually caught me. Today I realized it has been a long time since I last blogged. So, today I put together a new list. This one is of a few things to help me find my way to 2013 while actually enjoying the days from here to there.
1. Do it now or get it off the list
2. My crockpot is not the lazy way to dinner...use it!
3. 'No' is not a four letter word.
4. Rewards are not just nice, they are essential.
5. If I feel stressed I will immediately find something that makes me smile and focus on that.
6. Eating well is even more important to my personal sense of well being than formal exercise.
7. Almost any activity can be modified for a good workout... Think, think,think.
8. Write down food, exercise and the things that I'm thankful for each day.
9. Meditate and pray.
10. Make time for play...every day.

I also do not use jogging as a major part of my cardio plan because my knees get sore. That is why I use both an exercise bike and a regular bike. I do a little jogging with my dogs I have discovered that the strength training I am doing has basically eliminated the knee pains I had.
