On my way to 50 days!

I'm in the middle of a 50 workouts in 50 days challenge. I did miss one day and did very little on a couple when sick, but being on about day 28 has brought me to a good place. Just remembering I will need to log it encourages me do something. I love that there are so many different challenges here. There is definitely something for each of us... Perhaps many somethings. How about you?

Corn muffins and Coconut

I was asked to bring corn muffins to a dinner party this week. I made the mistake of bringing home the leftovers. I must be very careful to limit that treat, but I am enjoying each bite. For extra fiber I have an ounce of dry coconut almost every day. These special treats make me smile. I do save them for after some exercise. Too much deprivation at this time of year only leads me to bigger 'sins'. I plan my treats so they fit into my calorie plan and so far they have fit just fine. Do you plan treats or do you have another method of navigating this food laden time of year?

    A small banana, raisins, carrots, a few nuts or a dark chocolate kiss are part of my snack treats.

    I don't plan them but I do track them. Usually I stick to the same ones.

    I write down everything I eat and drink (with calories) and have never gone over 1500 calories, usually between 800 to 1200 calories.

    I try to work my sweets in with my tracking, and have been pretty successful so far this month, but of course, the month is still young, actually I did ook in November also, just no weight loss.

    One tip that I got on this website was to wait 10 minutes before eating a make sure I really want it.....sometimes this helps...other times it doesn't....but it always makes me stop and think before I eat it.......tale care and emoticon

The middle of the muddle

Though I'm not much of a jogger due to knee, back and balance issues, I think this time of year many of us are on that never ending treadmill. I find myself putting too many things on hold while not accomplishing nearly enough on my to do list. The stress of never quite keeping up with all the healthy things I want in my life, while putting too much focus on details that don't matter...eventually caught me. Today I realized it has been a long time since I last blogged. So, today I put together a new list. This one is of a few things to help me find my way to 2013 while actually enjoying the days from here to there.
1. Do it now or get it off the list
2. My crockpot is not the lazy way to dinner...use it!
3. 'No' is not a four letter word.
4. Rewards are not just nice, they are essential.
5. If I feel stressed I will immediately find something that makes me smile and focus on that.
6. Eating well is even more important to my personal sense of well being than formal exercise.
7. Almost any activity can be modified for a good workout... Think, think,think.
8. Write down food, exercise and the things that I'm thankful for each day.
9. Meditate and pray.
10. Make time for play...every day.

I also do not use jogging as a major part of my cardio plan because my knees get sore. That is why I use both an exercise bike and a regular bike. I do a little jogging with my dogs I have discovered that the strength training I am doing has basically eliminated the knee pains I had.

Too much popcorn

I dread hopping on the scale tomorrow. Today we took our grandsons to a darling movie...'Wreck-it Ralph'. Unfortunately, I ate a bit more popcorn than I should have and even worse, I had a cup of hot cocoa after. It was a magical day, but I know I'll pay. Sometimes I think it is worth the splurge.     You probably won't see the scale move up much, but you won't see it move down.

What I do when I have an unexpected treat is that for 3 days after, I eat on the low end of my calorie range (like my range is 1200-1450, I stay near 1200) and then I have 750 extra calories to make up for that treat day.

I hope that helps at your weekly weigh in. Don't panic if the scale moves up tomorrow, its probably water from the salt, try 2 extra glasses of water the next 2 days!

One Week to Thanksgiving

I so love this time of year. My body, however, has mixed success. I am determined to maintain or even lose a bit of weight between now and the new year. As I plan our menu for next week I get a little nervous. The family traditions are expected. So, will cut a few calories and fat where I can and then really pay attention to portions. As that little engine enthused..."I think I can...I think I can...I think I can!"

We CAN do it-- I will not stuff myself as usual, however, this is the one day per year that I get to see nearly all my family and everyone has their "signature recipes"... I will have to have a forkful of just about everything.

I will also be trying to "make up for it" the remaining 6 days of the week

My daughter is cooking and hosting dinner at her house this year (the first time it won't be at my house since 1984) so I have been blessed by taking that temptation away!!!! emoticon I will manage my portions, probably "bites" of what I want to eat and drink my water!!!!!!!
