One Week to Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 15, 2012

I so love this time of year. My body, however, has mixed success. I am determined to maintain or even lose a bit of weight between now and the new year. As I plan our menu for next week I get a little nervous. The family traditions are expected. So, will cut a few calories and fat where I can and then really pay attention to portions. As that little engine enthused..."I think I can...I think I can...I think I can!"

Happy Thanksgiving to YOU and thank you for welcoming me and commenting on my blog!

We CAN do it-- I will not stuff myself as usual, however, this is the one day per year that I get to see nearly all my family and everyone has their "signature recipes"... I will have to have a forkful of just about everything.

I will also be trying to "make up for it" the remaining 6 days of the week

My daughter is cooking and hosting dinner at her house this year (the first time it won't be at my house since 1984) so I have been blessed by taking that temptation away!!!! emoticon I will manage my portions, probably "bites" of what I want to eat and drink my water!!!!!!!

Portions are always the key for me. I eat a taste of what I really want, but just a taste.
You will do it. Good luck.

Cellulitis!

Monday, November 12, 2012

Ouch! My arm is red, hot, swollen...so painful. Trying high dose oral antibiotics. Once before I had this and ended up with three infusions each day for two weeks. I don't want to go there. Can't do weights, but can walk. Pretty dizzy and weak so will see how it goes. As I lay here resting, I am so thankful to have SP to keep me company. You are all awesome! emoticon emoticon

Haven't been on SP much the last few days, just saw your blog. Praying for you, I'm a retired RN & have seen so much of that! Right now my closest friend is dealing with her second bout of cellulitis in about 3 weeks. First one was behind her ear, of all places - face was so swollen. She was still on oral antibiotics when she developed one in her nose!!!!! She was admitted to the hospital for IV antibiotics 3 days ago, & she's still there. Like Sarah said before, this stuff is awful, so take care of yourself!

In Christ,

Kerolyn

YOU BETTER TAKE IT EASY! Don't over do things or you will not heal. Cellulitis is some serious stuff. You need to rest and drink lots of fluids...vitamins too. You have been through it before so you know how bad it can be....please keep me posted on how you are doing.
Hugs,
Sarah

oh gee that is awful, My husband had that in his leg he was in the hospital for a week last year.I will keep you in prayer. We are having a high wind storm here tonight, it is howling around the corners of the house, the windows are rattling so it is hard.Sounds scary my husband will be home from work shortly, but my brother is staying with me,now all of a sudden the rain is pelting against the window panes.yesterday it was so beautiful out we went on a 4 & one half hour motorcycle ride into the mountains. I just went to peak out the door gosh it is scary outside, the rain is coming down in sheets,my husband must come off 2 mountains to get home. One time this summer he came through the mountain passes on the motorcycle with lightning bouncing all around him.i pray for his safety all the time & those out in this.Well I pray you get better real soon. I never had that but i know what my husband went through.

Play

Saturday, November 10, 2012

Today I had the joy of playing with my 8 and 9 year old grandsons and almost three year old gd. Hide and seek, make believe, dance, and tag were their games for the day. I only got to stay an hour, but the joy and laughter will ripple through every part of me... mind, body and spirit for days to come. Grand children truly can be the very best medicine.

No Silliness?

Thursday, November 08, 2012

An older gentleman who dh and I know often sports a ball cap that reads 'grumpy' across the front. It suits him perfectly. He is opposed to all silliness. As we discussed the Christmas dinner party for our little band of co-ministers, he insisted we not plan any fun or games or any other silliness. It makes us sad to see him so determined to be so serious and pessimistic. We meet together to support and encourage one another as we care for our struggling care receivers. Laughter is such good medicine. If grumpy wasn't so grumpy we know he could benefit from at least a small dose of silliness. May you find some bright spots in your day regardless of what else your day may bring your way!

we all need a dose of silliness . laughter is better then most things to help lighten the mood of everyone . when things get rough we need to break from the boring and just be happy . even if its only for few min out of the day . emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sounds like someone forgot how to have fun and needs many hugs. Sometimes what we say we don't want is what we need the most but life experiences have taught us not to honor the need. I hope a child comes into his life and reminds him how to play...

emoticon Have you considered that wearing a "grumpy" hat is silliness! Suggest a second Christmas get together for games and silliness. My guess is "grumpy" will be the first one there!

That guy is making himself more miserable. Maybe, since more of you don't share his attitude, you can do games and other stuff anyway.

Sounds lie he needs an article to show how humor and breaks creates less stress. emoticon

Sabotage Time!

Monday, November 05, 2012

This time of year is always hard. So many people want me to try this or that goodie. I'm pretty good at just taking a taste these days, but it is still a challenge. However, I do remind myself that last year I actually lost a couple of pounds during this tough time. Dare I hope to do even better this season! Good success to us all!

I KNOW what you mean about this time of year...heehee. So many old and new goodie recipes...Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Eve, etc. Last year I was able to enjoy myself and still avoid gaining a pound. I worked out harder to burn up the extra calories. This year I want to create healthier versions of things I may bake or cook...that is the goal along with continued high intensity exercising.

We will get through it!
