Day 3 training for 5k

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

A better night of sleep, a healthy breakfast and mid-morning snack, chugged some water... Laced up my running shoes and headed out the door and up the canyon. I jogged and walked for 90 minutes. ... Abit more than a 5k! Hooray. I will go back out for a walk to do some errands in about an hour. Should leave the 10,000 step goal in the dust. Little by little we can do it!

Day 2 training for 5k

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Today I felt a cold coming on ... Dh has sinus infection so suspect I caught a bug from him. So, I was really dragging. I got out for a walk which gave me much more energy. I will be back at my walk/jog tomorrow. Little by little we can do great things!

Day 1 on way to 5k

Monday, September 10, 2012

Hit all my nutrient ranges. Walked/jogged 40 minutes on treadmill for a little over 2 miles. Won't win any trophies with this, but not having been able to run for about 25 years made this special. Before ms messed with my body and mind I loved to run, play tennis, ride horses... No wheel chair for past few years. Arthritis in neck, back, knees and hips are challenging. But, though I can't do a lot I can do some things. Hooray!

5K or Bust!

Sunday, September 09, 2012

I registered with my 9 year old grandon for my first 5K in many years. He just beat out all the kids in his class in the mile a couple of days ago. He ran an amazing 6:45. Reminds me so much of his mom. She ran, and won, her first 5k at his age and went on to run in high school and college. Though she's run a few marathons she prefers the half. She's been invited to run in Las Vegas in December. I used to run and also play other sports, but MS kind of ended all that. I've not had to use wheel chair for quite awhile now. I can walk well mostly right now and have two weeks to prepare for this 5K fundraiser for a boy with cancer. I know I'll mostly walk, but look forward to a few minute jog here and there. Today I walked more than 13,000 steps. Tomorrow I look forward to running a few in my first pair of running shoes that I just bought today. I feel like a kid!

    That is so exciting, Barbara!
Taking all those steps now will help make sure you are up for it (I hope).

Calorie Cycling

Thursday, September 06, 2012

Tomorrow I will begin calorie cycling. I've not done this before so am eager to see if this body will be fooled by it. Sounds like others have found success with this. Not sure how long I ought to cycle...? hope everyone has a great weekend!

    hahahahaha-
I love it when folks don't understand something and their reply makes me chuckle.
One of my sparkbuds was talking about her hubby (who is whining about a college class) and a comment was about how to deal with her SON.
Anyway- I find I naturally calorie cycle, don't you?
But when I really worked at it, I tended to do 1000 cals for a few days (too low and I get headaches) and then 1800-2000 for a day or so, then repeat, ad nauseaum...

Good luck!

I'm not sure what that is...I'll have to consult the great oracle! Google, that is.
Good luck!

The first few minutes of cycling are the hardest until your body gets the feel then you can keep going. If you have never cycled before I wouldn't overdue the first time. Fifteen to twenty minutes should be a good starter time , then add minutes as you go along.
